UCONN CEIN 2014
Thank You:-) Yes, I worked throughout the program. I worked as many hours as I could realistically balance, meaning my hours often varied weekly with whatever my class/clinical/lab load was. For us, lab was only one semester long (Spring). You may find your schedule a little less strained in the summer and fall, unless of course you end up with a 3 day a week clinical. Hope that helps:-)!

UCONN CEIN 2014
Hi everyone! Just wanted to wish you all good luck! We the class of 2013 are getting ready for graduation in a few weeks. It seems like only yesterday we all were in your shoes! the beginning of the program will be the hardest, but once you get a rhythm going you may find things get a bit easier, and I emphasize a Bit! I'll be happy to answer questions if you guys have any.

Hi StephenKing, There or many of us who do work part time or per diem. it all boils down to how you manage your time! the program is rigorous and taxing, but the year goes by so fast when you're so busy! good luck in your preparations!

Counting down as well! Got my stethoscope package today and can't wait to put all the supplies to good use:-). My only complaint is the free etching was done by hand and doesn't look great, which is kinda disappointing on such an expensive device. Still waiting on uniform and books and then my wallet and I are taking a break! :) Anyone know the schedule for the first week of school?

UCONN MEIN 2012-2013
Still could not find the group:-(How's everyone feeling (other than broke lol)?! We're just weeks away!!! To answer someone's earlier post, I decided to go with the ebooks. It will take some time getting used to but they made the price more attractive than the hard copies. And since we're moving more and more into all things electronic, this may be the best time to start adapting to new ways of learning, IMO :-)

Hi jells1026, Genetics can be a bit challenging but doable with some online resources to help break down the most challenging aspects. Good luck!! For my fellow soon to be classmates...anyone have any input on the assessment kits we need to buy?

It will workout (and you'll save tons of money :-) !! ) As someone said before, disorganized as the program may have been or is, graduates have been able to find jobs, even before MEIN became a degree program. I wonder if there are differences between the campuses. It seems the majority on this forum are going to Storrs.

UCONN MEIN 2012-2013
Congrats Ajbernier! I have to admit that I am a bit worried about the rumored disorganization, considering the physical, mental, and financial stakes ahead :-/ There are pros and cons to having new faculty and I'm looking forward to what each may bring. I think (hope!) orientation will give us a glimpse of what we are getting into.

UCONN MEIN 2012-2013
Hi Ajbernier! Congrats! There are some mixed reviews on other forums about the MEIN program, not much per se on NCLEX pass rate, which is good question. Maybe we will find out at orientation:-) And as we go through the program, we can add our experiences to the forum for future students!!

Is it me or is the latest email from the school a bit...strange? :-/

UCONN MEIN 2012-2013
Narose, do you need to be rescued from your trench?! LOL! Dont worry, I don't have a trench but I now know my mailman on a first name basis! Congrats AveryPointMEIN and welcome to our anxious group:-)!

UCONN MEIN 2012-2013
Soooo, how's everyone doing :-)?! (lol, as crickets chirp in the background). Has everyone worn down the path between their front door and mailbox yet? :-) Any newcomers to the cohort?!?! I hope so:-) Well, we are already a little over a month away from our full day orientation. Where did time go?!
-
UCONN MEIN 2012-2013
Hi everyone! Welcome newcomers :-) ! I do hope we start to hear back soon! I can't speak for everyone, but I have not heard from the school since the email asking that deposits not be sent in until further instruction. I'm guessing it was due to the move and change in staff. All of this is unsettling but understandable (maybe, lol). Let's hope that those waiting to hear from the August review will hear back this week and then maybe as a cohort we will hear about what steps to take next (fingers crossed :-) ) Hang in there everyone!

UCONN MEIN 2012-2013
Hi Ajbernier!Welcome to the group! I'm glad to hear this forum has been helpful thus far! Hopefully more info will be added along the way as we learn more about the process and the program. I have not come across anyone with provisional acceptance for this program, although, its actually not a bad idea. Maybe you can call/email the school and ask.... From what I recall from the info session is that your file must be complete in order to be reviewed. But, you never know, especially if they are not organized as others have mentioned. I would contact them. Goodluck!

Thanks! Can you tell us what to expect from orientation?

UCONN MEIN 2012-2013
Hi Everyone!September is upon and hopefully all those who applied for the August review are starting to hear back:-)Thanks for your feedback Melissa! Its good to hear from past/current MEIN students! I'm sure many people on this forum (including the lurkers :-) ) have a lot of questions that you guys/gals can help us future students with. Did you feel the disorganization of the admissions process also trickled into how the program was run? Also, what was your typical week in the program like?
-
UCONN MEIN 2012-2013
Hi MEINstudent! Thanks for the headsup about the program! Sorry to hear your admissions process wasnt smooth:-( Hopefully this will improve in the future. Other than admissions, what has your experience within the program been?

Thought of the day...Waiting to hear back from the school so we can prepare for things like orientation and finaid, etc is almost as cliff-hanging as waiting for the acceptance/rejection letter!

Hi Clf9317!Congrats and welcome to the group! The start date is still a mystery (but it would be so nice to know for planning and countdown purposes!!). Maybe we'll find out in the next few Weeks once the letters for the August decision cycle go out.

Hi Kimbobo! You can get through those prereqs in time for the June or August 2013 reviews! It can be trying mentally and financially to tailor your portfolio to each school you apply to, but it may be the best option. Applying to one school and not getting in would take you right back to the starting line. The CT community colleges are a great option for meeting your prereps. Depending on the semester and college, you can take Genetics online.Hope this helps!
