SANE on call pay
Hello Sabadudu! I was a SANE nurse briefly, and we were getting on call $300 per case if we were called in, after they revamped the program. Before, I think it was time and a half or something like that. Hope this helps and hope you get what you deserve pay wise :) this is in Pennsylvania btw.

Am I getting paid appropriately?
Thank you, nedrn. Does "pending review of the contract" just mean/let them know I'm not accepting officially until I review the written contract? Also, would I still be able to ask my recruiter for more money at this point? Thanks for for all your input!

Am I getting paid appropriately?
Mind you I pay my rent back home still and will have to find rent in LA as well. Making 3200 bi weekly. So that's why it doesn't sound like enough to me. Isn't LA expensive??!

Am I getting paid appropriately?
I am getting kind of frustrated because it seems like every assignment I go on I find other travelers from different companies on my same assignment that are getting paid a lot more than I am. Mind you, this is only my second assignment. I ended up switching companies and ended up looking at the West Coast with American mobile. I was trying to work with different companies and it seems like American mobile was going to give me more than travel nurse across America (who I was with originally) But maybe I wasn't negotiating the right way? Because somehow I am ending up with less than I thought. I have several questions. First at of all, is a verbal contract legally binding? If it is then I guess I am stuck. And second, can anyone tell me if this sounds like a sufficient/best/appropriate pay for ER nurse at Kaiser in Downey CA? 36 hours/week 13 week assignment reg: $28/hr (first 8 hours) $42/hr (last 4 hrs) conposite= $32.67/hr per diem $35/day untaxed take home= 997/week. Housing included. Now if if I took the housing stipend, I would end up with $1600/week. Of of everything ive seen advertised, this seems astonishingly low. I should've checked out other agencies and had them quote me their rates before agreeing to this assignment. Darn it. What was I thinking. Now I am wondering if I am out of luck and too late? I didnt sign sign anything written, but I've heard that agencies try to trick you by agreeing to a "verbal contract" that way they can tell the hospital you're in, but if you back out before signing the written one, that hospital won't want you anymore as a traveler. Is this true? Am I stuck with this contract because I verified a verbal agreement?

travel agency recommendations for west coast
Could you perhaps tell me what an ER Job at Kaiser 36hour/week pay might be like with American mobile? After er calculating the blended rate, it comes to 44/hr, and that's including the stipend. Doesn't that sound low??? Plus they only offer 40 cents per 250miles which ends up being 100 bucks to get from the east coast to the west cost.

Best Travel Companies
What kind of experience is typically necessary to do rapid response? I'm an er nurse and would like to know how to break I to rapid response. Thanks!

Should I change agencies?
Thank you for your response. Do you happen to know if there is a time frame between when you begin a state's application for licensure and when you complete sending everything in? I am considering holding the license verification portion until I am ready to apply for a job in VA again. What do you think?
-
Should I change agencies?
Thanks for your response. I am a first time traveler and have been at my first job 2.5 years, so I suppose it's a young person's mistake to be disillusioned into thinking that payroll should be astute at their job. Learning a lot in my twenties. thanks again

Should I change agencies?
Thank you so much for your response. I know that it's the governments money. But my point is that I am frustrated because I caught the problem. If I didn't say anything, then it wouldn't have been caught for a long time. So yes, it is a good thing that I caught the problem. But as far as I am concerned, it is THEIR responsibility to not give me tax advantage--- because i did not sign up for it! I knew i wasn't supposed to because I am still living in my apt 10mi away from the hospital. They did anyway. I'm not sure what you are saying about VA license? I know I will not get reimbursed until the end of my assignment there, should I go there. What I did not know is that if they send my application to a hospital there (VA) and the position is already full, now I will not get reimbursed even if I go there within 6-12 months. Actually, I just realized that I submitted everything for VA license except the nurse verification form (my state PA does not participate in nursys). Should I hang on to that part of the license submission until I am actually ready to apply to a job there this time?

Should I change agencies?
I lost money by spending $240 on a license that I may never be reimbursed for, even though I still plan on using it. I just might not be able to use it within the next 6 months

Can I join different agencies at once?
How are you with 5 at once? Youre not taking assignments with each of them are you? Are you just using them to compare pay and locations against each other?

Should I change agencies?
I am on my first assignment with Travel Nurse Across America. My qualms with them: I did not sign up for tax advantage because I was only 10mi from my home. But they signed me up anyway (by accident), and after 3 paychecks I mentioned to my recruiter that I was getting much more than she had originally quoted me ($500 biweekly more). She discovered that payroll had not been taxing my income, and now I have to pay back $1250 dollars. On top of it, I paid $240 for a VA license. The assingment I wanted there did not work out (understandable), but she said now that I am not going there within the next 6 months (although I do plan on going within the next year) I will no get reimbursed for buying the license. If I complete an assignment there (especially within the year), I feel as though I should still be reimbursed. Is that so out of the question? Mostly I think I am upset because my recruiter told me when she discovered what was wrong with the untaxed money I was getting "this is a good thing! we caught this early!" she did not apologize she did not show any remorse. I felt terrible. I am so overwhelmed. She made it seem like I was silly to even be upset. On top of it, now I am another $240 in the hole. To that she said not to worry about it, and if she were me she woulnd't worry about getting reimbursed. I just don't feel like she cares about the things I care about, and I don't like that in a recruiter. She makes me feel silly for caring about losing my money. Maybe I should just get another recruiter? Is that even possible? I don't want to offend her by asking, but I'd prefer someone different. I have also spoken with someone from Supplemental Staffing who is offering about $500 more bi weekly for a Corpus Christi assignment when I compared it with TNAA's. It just seems like such a hassle to switch agencies though. Can I bring up Supplementals offer and haggle with TNAA? I am on my first ever assignment currently with TNAA. They have a great reputation, so I don't want to fall victim to "the grass is always greener on the other side". I'd appreciate anyones help!!!

Can I join different agencies at once?
Wow thanks-- that is great advice! I thought the trauma thing might be a big deal, because on a few websites when I searched for particular cities that I wanted there was nothing within 50mi that had a travel nurse posting or need, unless it had a "trauma level one ER nurse experience required" tagged underneath it! But I will talk to different recruiters then. At first I was trying to just pick one, because I get so confused with who is who because they call me every stinking day! Haha. And by the end of my 12 hr shift I have like 4 voicemails from all these recruiters. I can't even keep them all straight. But hey such is life.

Can I join different agencies at once?
I was curious to know if any of you had experience with different agencies. I have worked in the ER two years (first nsg job out of school) and think it's a good time to start travel nursing. I am certified with CEN and have PALS/TNCC/ENPC/ACLS/BLS, have precepted, can do triage and even had some experience as charge nurse. I can also translate Spanish. My only (and somewhat major) setback is the hospital I have been at is not a trauma ED. I am thinking this might make things difficult when finding a place. I am pretty particular about the places I'd like to go: philadelphia, denver, salem VA, charlotte NC, california. Have any of you all found it difficult to find a hospital with your specialty in the location that you were aiming for? Can I shop around and submit my application to several different agencies, and whichever recruiter finds me the best matches is the one I contract with and join? It's my first time (obviously), and so I am feeling quite lost! Also, which are the best agencies to join (since there are literally like hundreds!) and how do they find work for you in between assignments? Thank you so much, any input is very appreciated.

NAVY reserves for a nurse. questions....
I am looking to apply as an officer of the Navy reserves. I have just started as an ER nurse, and want to apply but I have some questions. There was someone named "LCDR Dan" doing a great job answering questions regarding this topic. How do I tell me manager I am applying? I know she can't fire me, but I have to tell her I'll miss two weeks of work a year, and I don't know how she'll react. Also, I don't want to randomly get deployed and then my manager at my civilian job is frustrated because I'm messing up the schedule. (Let me rephrase that-- I would LOVE to get deployed, I DON'T want to upset my manager or make things difficult for my civilian co-workers and leadership). I generally don't know what to expect if I apply and they accept me. What will my training be like? My recruiter mentioned that I'd be doing more "supervising" of the ER, like in a leadership position. That sounds great but how will I be trained if I'm only gone those two weeks in the summer? Is that when I'll learn everything? Do you think it's too early in my career to be doing this? I've been a nurse (RN BSN) for literally a month. Anyone with military experience or knowledge please respond-- thank you so much!

Am I The Only One?
Relocate. I am moving next month from Philadelphia. I had one interview at Hahnemann, only because I had an "in" but still didn't get the position because of no experience. Try further west or north in the state, or another state altogether. I hope this is possible for you and good luck! Remember knowing somebody definitely can help tons---or be everything you need. How about somewhere where you did clinical? I know a lot of people get jobs where they did clinical

CNA's taken off schedule after passing boards?
My employer can't afford to lose anymore techs! As long as I'm there and willing to work, I still have a job. I passed July 18 and I still work there. I didn't realize you can't work as a tech/CNA after passing the boards! I'm a unit secretary too. Well, I guess my manager is turning a blind eye to it because we need the help.

My NCLEX experience!
Thank you so much! I am taking it tomorrow, and I was leary of coming on here. But I can't study much anymore or focus, and I was just hoping to find something inspirational and not discouraging. Ilove this post...I need to get praying because I just want to be calm and not anxious. I am the same way--was always very anxious before nursing exams! And my roommate would say the exact verse to me- be anxious for nothing! I took Kaplan and looked at Saunders a little too. Deep breath. I can do this! Ruthie
