  1. Have you ever taken online courses before? If you think you are willing and dedicated enough to check in every day or every other day you should be fine. Being that you work 5 days a week, how do you feel about dedicating your weekends or evenings to schoolwork? Just think about things like that.... If those are already "no" and you have big plans coming up like wedding/honeymoon you may consider pushing it back. Good luck to you!
  2. Exciting!!!! I believe you can but I am basing that on the last program I did with UTA. Some of our classes may overlap as well. For example if we take a 5 week course but then are assigned to an 11 week course.... I would ask the advising team about this for the best response.
  3. Congrats! I really am nervous about the clinical sites too. I think we just have to get a move on it quick and make tons of phone calls, be aggressive and get it done. That's my plan anyway!
  4. I as well received my letter! Got the email last Monday and signed my advising syllabus and acceptance form etc.... I am starting 8/12. Hopefully financial aid pulls through. I called 2 days ago and the fin aid office said it would probably be 7-10 more days. So as long as that goes through I'm in lol. RNSG your start date is right around the corner! I'm curious how many classes we will have to take at once. Not more than 2 for me (hopefully!). My kiddos are young and active in their activities so I know if I do more than I'm going to stress too much. cmillerva congrats!!! Maybe once we find out who else is starting we can get a group together. Marissa Reardon did you hear anything? Anyone else?????
  5. Not yet but hopefully soon!
  6. Good deal! No word yet. I did receive an email back from the admissions office today acknowledging my application so I think they are just getting to it.
  7. Awesome!!!!! Your start date is coming up soon! I am still waiting on admissions. If accepted, I will be a little less than 2 months behind you so one class behind you I think. I have always had study buddies while in school and it has helped so much.
  8. I am 100% online if accepted. I did my undergrad here all online a few years back and it went well. I think the only real problem we are going to encounter is finding clinical sites. The grad/pass rate for boards is good from what I see.
  9. Yes it is ?. We are about 5 hours apart but we can always email each other if needed for help!
  10. I'm in Flower Mound. You?
  11. Hi everyone. I applied last week for the Fall semester Aug start date. I am definitely open to a study group whenever we find out who will be attending. - Sarah
  12. Hello. I just graduated with my ADN and was hired about a month ago in L&D. There are many nurses who get hired straight into L&D, BUT there are a thousand more who have prior experience elsewhere. Don't wait around. Just because you take a job in med-surge, tele, IMC first does'nt mean you have given up on your goals. Although it would be awesome to prove those wrong and get directly hired, it is'nt really worth waiting for because this means you are allowing yourself to give up great opportunities that will only make you stronger in your career. Good luck to you!
  13. Hello. I just graduated and was hired on a L&D unit. I did not have these certifications although some classmates and I were pondering over whether we should get them as well. I agree and have heard many others say that, unless you use the knowledge you have learned in the classes, they really are no benefit. I was thinking though before I got hired that taking the classes even without the work experience shows you are serious about your field. But before I took this step, I decided to be proactive and go to the units on several different occassions and introduce myself to the staff, kindly drop off my resume, letting them know I wanted to be there. In the event that I felt like I needed to fall back on taking the certifications I could. I have been orientating for about three weeks now and have not yet taken any certifications... Hope this helps and good luck!
  14. Hello all. I was able to apply to NICU on Friday. I think the thread title is still accurate for our topic. To all the other NICU applicants, what is your background? Here is a little on me. I will graduate in May with RN. I have a few years of LVN experience. I am currently seeking BSN. Becasue i am still in school and about to start my preceptor, I am a little worried about interviewing schedule being that I would have to travel. But fingers crossed everything will work out.....
  15. Mother of 2, From what I hear, have your schedule wide open 7 days a week as things change often. You can probably expect to study every day. Put a set time in your schedule for this. I also have two children and when I was in the first two semesters I didnt get to see them much. Just remember, this is something you are doing for your family and the time spent away missing playdates or baseball games is for good reason. Cant really give you any other advice besides the obvious, as I attended my first year in Dallas. But good luck to you.
