LPN not taken serious
I tell them the RNs are the "why" nurses, and I'm the "how" nurse. I know how to get it done. That's what "practical" means.

Am I doing a good job?
You know you're doing a good job if the patient has a good outcome and the doctor/referral source is going to send more business. It sounds like you aren't getting the support needed from your clinical supervisor and DON. I've been in home health for 10 years, and I've seen the worst and the best. Go find an agency with a great reputation. I made the move from my last agency to one that made the Top 500 Home Health Elite last year, and I've never been happier. Good luck.

Is it as bad as everyone says it will be?
I've been an LPN for 12 years, was a CNA for 15 before that. I've been doing home health for 10 years, and I absolutely love it. I've had jobs I hated, too. It depends on your employer, and your co-workers. I've been happiest when I took jobs that allowed me to further my knowledge, employers who wanted me to learn. I am truly happy with my current employer and intend to stay with them until I retire. This company sets a very high standard, so that means everything is done right. I would recommend getting onto a med-surg unit for a year, if you can. It will give you excellent experience, lots of mentors, and a wide range of exposure to various patient care areas. Good luck!

Online wound course??
I am interested in taking a wound certification course, but I'm really not interested in taking a week off to travel, etc. The online course is about half the cost, too. I've been in home health for 10 years, nursing for 27 total, so I've had plenty of hands on. Has anyone taken the online course? What did you think? Thanks in advance.

how do your organize your "stuff"?
I use a 3 compartment bag supplied by my agency, and bought a luggage cart and bungee cord to secure my stuff. The bag never touches any surface. I can put my laptop bag on there too, and hang a small sharps box bag from the cart handle as well. Make sure to get a cart with a curved handle at the top, you can balance your laptop on there if needed.
