Hi everyone! My last experience as a Nurse was March 2010 and I'm starting my Refresher course next week at Bellevue College.I am an international graduate and have passed NCLEX last october.Since then I applied everywhere and got a single call back from long term care (Providence Spokane).I've applied for residencies,LTC's,hospitals name it,but no such luck.I just want to ask if the refresher will improve my CV and If anybody had same experience as mine.Thank you again!

Thank you for your time Tokmom and jolleyholley 1986!I' ve practiced Nursing last 2009.I volunteered at a hospital and I basically performed my duties as a registered nurse without the paycheck.Nursing jobs are hard to come by that's why I chose to do volunteering for experience sake.Then I moved here in the US and got a hold of my license just last month.I'm scared to start in a SNF for I feel like my skills needs an update.I guess the refresher course is the way to go.I'm looking for hospital open house events too but I can't seem to find one.Thank you again ladies

Hi everyone! I need some advise please.I recently passed NCLEX last Oct this year and I'm an immigrant.Graduated 2006 and had about a year of hospital volunteer experience as a Registered Nurse in the Philippines last 2009.I've been applying on jobs (hospitals) and not much positive response.I've applied for an RN refresher course at Bellevue College this coming Spring.I'm not sure yet if I'd be part of the Spring Batch because of limited seats.So I'm trying to apply everywhere.I really am overwhelmed and scared at that.Do you have any tips as to how to make myself more marketable and is the refresher course a must for my situation.Thank you very much for your time.

Hi there xaldin4life!The priority questions were quite like Kaplan's.It was hard and you'll feel like each choice is correct.The LA Charity Pda is a really helpful for me.Made me think twice as to is it really what the question is asking?My drag n drop were the steps on how to properly take off staples and Wound dressing.I really tried to not memorize but understand the rationales/concepts and I felt It really helped a lot.Godbless and stay focused!You got this!

Hi venzi0724!Same here!I graduated 2006 so I get where you're coming from kabayan.I really focused on Saunders as I'm lacking with content.Practice answering at least 50-100 questions a day and really understand the concept.Godbless and I know you can make it!

Laradanielle~Hi there!I took my first last April and failed:no:.Started studying august until before my exam date which is Oct 4.It was hard with my lil girl in tow.:yes:I read the whole Saunders book and it helped me alot esp with the contents.I tried to at least finish a chapter per day,If It's a long one (Cardio,resp,endo,etc) I try to give it 2-3 days.Goodluck girl!

Thank you everyone! cslusrn2014 -no worries!I'm here to help.The Alternate Format was a huge help!It made SATA a lil bit bearable and less scary for me.I had 2 basic comp,1 dosage and the other one asked how many gtts/min of an IV sol'n.I also liked the SATA Group and NCLEX group at Facebook,they post a lot of questions and a very engaging group too!Goodluck and I know you got this!

Hi Everyone! Promised myself to share my preparations/experience with NCLEX in a whole after passing it.I sat for the exam Oct 4(Sat) at 8 am and got quick results Oct 6(Monday) at 6 am.My name was posted around 12 noon later that day and received ny license via mail today!Halleluiah Thank you Lord! I graduated from the Philippines and been off Nursing for a bit because we started a family.With my first try (April) I used Kaplan,it was really helpful with strategies and really trained me to be able to weed through the answer choices.I was not able to concentrate much with the review as my baby is my priority that time,she's 2,a very active Toddler! My results came in and the Evaluation came with all near the passing Standard.So I cried,and cried some more.I came to this site for comfort and suggestions and you guys never failed me.I picked myself up,enrolled at Hurst online,bought the Saunders 6th ed Book and The PDA by LaCharity and borrowed the Lippincott's NCLEX RN Alternate Format Questions.I didn't have any concrete schedule as I'm a Stay At home mommy.We don't have family to help me with my daughter and my loving husband has a full time job.So it was a struggle!I read the whole Saunders 6th ed book,finished the Pda and Hurst(very good content base,highly recommend it esp for those who took a break from Nursing like me) and did a lot of SATA via the Lippincott Alternate.I focused on them and nothing else.When my daughter's asleep I read,and also utilized NCLEX MASTERY(I loveeee!!!). I prayed,kept my Faith and cool and played THE FIGHTER by Gym Class Heroes before I slept and before I entered PearsonVue.I said bring It on,God got my back.:yes:I finished after 3 hrs and stopped at 200!I thought I failed with that number!I prayed again,cried didn't do the PearsonVue trick and went home. Then results came in and thank God I'm now an RN!You too can make It!Lots of Faith,practice,hardwork and believe that you will!Push yourself a little more,take a breather then study again!Got around 15-16 SATA's,Lots of priority and del,2 drag n drop,5 ecgs,a whole lot of meds (Cardio and Psyche),diet,infection,mainly on Cardio,Respi,Psyche.It's a mix of everything. Hi! First,don't be too hard on yourself.Cry it out,sleep,spend time witb your family and go to your happy place. I'm just like you!Failed my first tym and panicked that I'm running out of time so I randomnly picked any letter.Graduated 8 years ago and foreign educated,so I feel your pain. When you get your resut,check the evaluation and study your weak points.I'm still struggling balancing my time as I have a very active toddler.Stay Strong and Faithful.We'll get there!I'm now using Hurst and Saunders(reading the whole book!) for content is my weakness .Godbless you and let's stay focused!You can do it!God is good all the time❤️

Thank you for the boost of confidence and for sharing your study plan.Like Kathrene,RN i too have a 2 y/o.I can't seem to keep up with everything going on and my study plan:notworthy:.I'm using Saunders for I've been out of school for a bit too.I wanna try Hurst,my weakness is a bit of every area.I'm overwhelmed with everything and feel like I too have just been answering questions,reading here and there. Haven't posted for awhile but I visit the site especially this forum every night!☺️ Took my first try last April, ended with 110 questions and sadly I failed.Scheduled to sit for my second attempt on October 4. I have been using Saunder's 6th ed(which I love!),Nclex Rn Mastery App (useful for on the go)Lippincott's 11th ed(for ff up questions after each chapter of Saunders) and Pda La Charity(haven't started it yet though) I used Kaplan last time and it was indeed helpful.I assessed my weak points and It was content!I graduated way back and I think I got a bit over confident into thinking that I can tackle NCLEX just like that:banghead: I wanna invest on Hurst and I wanna ask for your experience with them.Money is tight and I wanna do right this time,for myself and my little family's future.Thank you everyone in advance!:)

You can do this!I too am reviewing/preparing for my second take.I took mine last April 5 and stopped at 153 and sadly no good pop up.After quick results I learned I did not pass.Cried,cried and cried a whole lot more.But I prayed and offered it all to Him.I dusted myself up,made peace w myself and to my family(whom I felt i disappointed).They showered me with Love,encouragement and understanding that It's overwhelmingly inspiring. Assess your strong and weak points,go for what review method/material that is comfortable with you.Make a study sched.Give yourself some time to take it all in.I planned to take it again by July.I rushed in the first time and Im making sure to take my time this time around. Pray pray pray and pray! This forum rocks and they give sound advice especially for us who are doubting ourselves right now.Stay strong and have Faith!We are meant to be Rn's!It's just a matter of time☺️☺️☺️
