Im a 45 yr old single mother of three pre-teens. I must work full time in order to support my family and do not have anyone to assist with finances. All of my pre-reqs for the LVN program are completed and I am currently enrolled in the CNA program. The problem I am having is trying to figure out how this will work. I was told that I could work at a LTC facility at night while attending the LVN program during the day. Yet when I try to put the hours needed for classes and the 40 hours of a job on paper, I do not see how it will work. The LVN classes are held from 7-5 m-f. So how will I be able to work full-time and still be able to attend school. Friends have said I could work 6pm-6am, but would not get any sleep. There has to be others who have crossed this same bridge. Can anyone lend some advise who has traveld down this road? I need all the help I can get. I dont want to change my major, I want to be a Nurse but Im starting to feel its unatainable for me.

Hello to all, I like some are of the older generation, I am 45 and have completed my pre-req's. However, I am getting worried as to how this will play out after reading other posts. Nurses having a problem finding employment is some what bothersome. Then there is the issues with appying to the nursing programs: not having all A's, having w's is counted against you, I dont have a 3.0 gpa, and not to mention the chances I am taking in changing careers in order to fullfill my dream. I am the sole provider for my three children and will enter a CNA program in two weeks. Working the night shift as a CNA will allow me to to apply and..... possibly receive a chance at entering the LVN Program. Once employed as an LVN I will continue with school until I earn my BNS. The colleges make it extremly difficult on the single mothers who want to earn an academic education. We have to work full-time and the medical classes are only held during the day. Although I want this terribly, I might have to change my major so that I will be able to support my family and still achieve an academic education. Im taking a huge risk and wonder if any others have traveled down the same road and could possibly offer some advise. I would greatly appreciate it.
