Have you met your husband at nursing? Is nursing a good career to meet men?
As others have indicated, there is certainly potential for meeting someone at a hospital or other healthcare related workplace. Clearly, it's the guys that have the advantage in terms of male:female ratio, but anything is possible. People that work in hospitals tend to be stable and career oriented people, so it beats meeting people at bars and clubs IMHO. As always, just be cautious yet open to new experiences (kinda like nursing). Good luck!

SRJC ADN 2013/2014
I got accepted as well! I've been applying to RN programs for 2 years, and this is my 2nd time applying at SRJC. I checked out the campus last weekend, and was pretty impressed. A good friend of mine grew up near Santa Rosa, and had a lot of good things to say about the college & the community. I had to scramble to get into a nutrition class in order to retain my slot. I took nutrition back in 2009, but it didn't have a diet therapy component (at least not to SRJC's satisfaction). Fortunately and quite luckily, I was able to add an online class (Food & Nutrition 50 at Butte College) at the last minute. This so exciting, albeit somewhat overwhelming. I live currently live in SF. Over the next 2 months, I need to get through a 4-unit nutrition class, get packed up, move to the Santa Rosa area with my girlfriend, and jump through all the hoops that SRJC has in store for us before classes start. How do you all feel about creating our own discussion forum where we can keep in touch, exchange information, and generally stay on top of things? I'm good with computers/technology and will happily create a private BLOG or Facebook page where out postings can be private. Congratulations to all the admits, and I look forward to meeting you at orientation! Josh

I just thought of writing about my experience of getting in the informatics position.
Thanks a lot for posting about your experiences. I am a nursing student with extensive experience with computers (moving from IT into nursing, actually). I hope to combine my interests in medicine with my interest in computers. I figure the best way to do this is to help others with computer related stuff while on the job, and I'm glad to see that a similar approach has worked for you.

Finally accepted into American River College's RN program!
I also received my letter of rejection from ARC yesterday. A disappointment, to be sure, but not surprising. This was my third consecutive application to ARC. I’ll try again for fall, 2013… maybe I’ll get lucky. I took a look at the new multi-selection criteria that they will be using starting for the fall, 2013 applicants. They will only be selecting from the top 30% of applicants, which is a bit disconcerting, but it is what it is... I’ve been on the wait list for Napa since fall, 2011. I was hoping to be accepted at Napa by fall, 2013, but I’m still in the 200’s on the wait list, so I’m not too optimistic about it. I’m not getting discouraged, it’s just somewhat frustrating to spend a lot of time getting the prerequisites done only to have to wait 2-3 years to get in somewhere. As Tom Petty said, “The waiting is the hardest part.” Congratulations on your acceptance, Courtney ! I hope you will fill us in on how the program is going for you once you start.

Sacramento City College New Selection Criteria
I think the “point system” for getting into the application pool at SCC is a bit strange. I thought I had a pretty strong academic record, yet I was still short of the minimum number of points before getting 5 extra points for working while taking my prerequisites. This brought me above the cut score by a mere 0.5 points! This is my first time applying to SCC and my third time applying to ARC. I did not apply to ARC the previous 2 semesters since I had not yet taken the TEAS. I waited until the last minute to apply to ARC, so I decided to hand deliver my application & take a look at the campus rather than send in my application (UPS would have delivered it the next day). After dropping off the application, I drove to ARC and took a look at their campus as well. I must say that I came away with a much better impression of ARC than SCC. Last year, ARC got back to me on 11/4/2011, so I expect to hear something within the next few days. If I don’t get in for spring, 2013, I’ll reapply for fall 2013/spring 2014 (SCC is moving to a single application period per year starting in February, 2013 for the 2013-2014 academic year). Meanwhile, I’m on the wait list at a few other colleges (almost 2 years and counting). I figure I will get accepted somewhere by spring, 2014 at the latest (knock on particle board) :).

Sacramento City College/American River College: How many times did you apply?
To those that have been repeatedly applying to ARC/SCC or elsewhere to no avail: I suggest applying to at least one school that utilizes a wait list rather than a lottery. Depending on how the lottery is conducted, you might never get it despite how many times you apply or how qualified you are. I am on the wait list at Napa, Cabrillo and Santa Barbara. A wait list school may not be your top choice, but at least you will get in eventually, and you will have some idea as to when you will start (usually 2-3 years). Of course, not everyone can relocate in order to go to school due to family obligations or what have you. Just a suggestion... ________________________ Since I do not yet have 15 posts, I am unable to send private messages. I second the suggestion of buying the study guide and taking the 2 online practice exams. The study guide also contains an addition 2 (paper) practice exams. If you do well on the practice tests, you should do well on the exam. Others have stated that the practice tests actually over-prepare you, and I agree. I took my first practice exam with no studying or preparation of any kind. With minimal review, I boosted my initial practice score by 10 percentage points, then scored another 5 percentage points higher on the actual exam. The exam is really not that difficult, and a little preparation goes a long way. Good luck! :)

Im worried Online pre-req classes will lower my chances?
In my experience, there is no notation on your transcript as to whether a particular class was taken online or in-person. It simply shows the term (e.g., Spring, 2011), department, course number, course name, number of units, and grade.

Los Medanos for Fall 2011?
If someone can send me a picture of the posted lottery results as well, I'd appreciate it. I don't yet have 15 posts, so I'll be glad to respond by email. Thanks!

Merritt College Fall 2012
Hello fellow admits, I've also been accepted into the program for the fall. Like others, I'm wary of the negative comments. I'm going to make another trip to the campus, talk to some key people, and read everything that I can about the program, the professors, and so forth. In all likelihood, I'll accept the offer. The alternative would be to re-apply to lottery based schools for spring/fall, 2013. I am also on the wait list at Napa Valley College, Cabrillo College, and Santa Barbara City College (with probably at least another year on each list). I'm all for getting a head start by getting a study group going. We're all going to need as much support as we can get, most of which will have to come from ourselves and our fellow students. Congratulations to all the admits. In 2 years from now, we'll be getting pinned :) !

ati practice teas v compared to actual test
I also scored higher on the actual TEAS V than on the practice tests (6 percentage points). I'm not sure what this is a reflection of (random chance, good guesses on questions I wasn't sure of, actual difference in difficulty between the two, etc.), although I am a good test taker (a gift that can make an enormous difference in academia). I studied exclusively from the ATI study guide, and put only about 15 total hours into studying/preparation. I scored in the 88th ant 89th percentiles (nationally for the ADN program, respectively). Good luck!
