  1. Hey, good idea, externship programs seem like an excellent way to gain experience, and some summer money. Two of my friends got externship positions at Morristown Memorial. (one in the ER, the other in OR, making around $14/hr) This program is 14 weeks long, and I think more info can be found on the hospital's website. Another hospital I heard that did this is Hackettstown, but you might want to double check that one! Best of luck and even if you can't get an externship slot, I'm sure area hospitals have some good position available!
  2. I really feel that nursing picks you, not that you pick nursing. You have to want it, and when all of your hard work starts paying off:you pass your pre-reqs, take the entrance exams and actually start your education in nursing, you'll know if this is what you want in life. As far as being a nurse, Id like to ask why you're afraid of not being a good one? No one is expected to know everything, and thats why there are resources available for nurses. Your houghts are normal... all of my fellow classmates stress that we're afraid to hurt a client (or kill them!) but making sure you know what you're expected to know in school will prevent that from happening. Best of luck, I hope whatever you choose to do makes you happy:)
  3. HAHA, I used to work in a pharmacy, and this one night we were extremely busy, going from one customer to the next. So without even looking up I ask the next one in line if I could help them...she replied "Trojans", and I immediately answer "yes they're over there on the wall", which promted her to reply "No, thats my last name, Im here to pick up my prescription!" I couldnt control myself, all the people in line heard that conversation and tried to hold back the laughter until she left! :chuckle
  4. YOU KNOW YOU'RE A NURSING STUDENT WHEN: a classmate who you havent talked to since HS calls you on your cell (How he got the # I dont know!) to ask what to take for his cold/flu. You have at least 3 boxes of cereal bars in your car to substitute for lunch since you learned the proper handwashing techniques, you teach anyone you see whos washing their hands wrong and explain why (Yea im sad!) You repeatingly say that you look like The State Puff Marshmallow Man in your clinical uniforms! I love this site, you guys are too funny :chuckle
