  1. My letter finally came today! Congrats everyone! I look forward to meeting some of you soon!
  2. Emma...they are not UNINFORMED...they are DIFFERENT from yours...MY choice is NOT to vaccinate...so here we go round the mulberry bush...If you want to PM we can go over and over and over...my views are not changed...Thankfully I won't have to administer meds for long...RN is just a means to an end for me and my field won't deal with much of that. You are as hard headed as I am lol. ANYHoooo being up to date on meds you administer and being FORCED to take vaccine for yourself...NOT the same! I also never said that ALL mainstream medicine is bad but there sure is a lot of it that is not what it should be...another topic though.
  3. LOL...yes Treas I did my MAR review VERY early! I live in Rockwell so I am sure it takes a bit longer...KILLING ME lolol
  4. Colorado healthcare workers to be fired if they refuse mandatory flu shots An article about this very debate happening in Colorado. I just wish that western medicine would work on building up the immune systems the right way. EmmaZ...I understand that you passionatly debate your position. You are not going to change my mind...nor me yours. We simply disagree. What is right for one is not right for another. This is why we all have the right to decide what we will or will not accept for ourselves and our families. This take the shot or lose your job mentality is but one symptom of a much larger problem. I do not want to bore anyone or distract from the op's original post. I wish everyone the best outcomes for whatever decision they make on this topic!

  6. I had 171.3 and have not gotten a letter yet...I think some of them are later going out and mail obviously takes different time. I think the earliest letters received were just Saturday. I wouldn't worry yet mon!
  7. Although he may have eventually fallen from grace...it does not negate his prior research. He was twice nominated for a nobel prize. These particular articles were offered as food for thought. You are correct in considering the source...that applies to BOTH sides of a debate. A single dose with "no" mercury still has aluminum...I would say for anyone being forced to get the vaccine this is probably a better option but still not the answer IMO and my understanding is it is harder to come by. I am fortunate enough to be adding nursing as a second career and can very carefully choose who I work for and what they will require of me. Not everyone is as lucky. Sadly...no time for debate this morning as I have an appointment with my alternative medicine physician :). Oh how I love that man...even though he is NOT vaccinated lol. Have a beautiful day EmmaZ
  8. Flu Shots & Alzheimer's Disease | eHow.com http://ezinearticles.com/?Flu-Shots---The-Alzheimers-Flu-Shot-Connection&id=811244 http://www.newsmaxhealth.com/headline_health/flu_shot_Alzheimers/2011/12/18/423456.html Just a few articles on this topic. In the third article he explains why some people get the flu after getting the vaccine for those of you who get sick after having the flu shot.
  9. EmmaZ...we just have to agree to disagree on this one. I respect your opinion even though I do not agree with it. The mercury is the concern. Why can't they remove it from vaccines? There are experts on both side of this fence. Respected knowlegeable people who disagree. The benefits outweigh the risks only until you are the one who is affected. Then the risk doesn't seem so beneficial. As far as the length of time a med was around before being pulled...my question strays from the OP topic. How on earth do these meds make it into the market to begin with? Also as I said in my later post...why are visitors not required to use hand washing practices etc when coming into a facility. Why are the people who are so at risk not vaccinated? At any rate...I appreciate the discussion and wish you and your patients the best this flu season!
  10. Sadly...in our society sometimes MONEY trumps actual NEED or SAFETY. You are SO right when you bring up this outbreak! I was actually thinking of it as well. My other question is if the patients are at such high risk for dying from the flu...why were they not vaccinated against it? Are family members and friends who come to visit patients being required to show proof of vaccination or even asked to wash their hands upon entering and leaving the facility? Sometimes we have to trust our gut in spite of a belief that something is harmless. Asbestos, lead, mercury, agent orange...all examples of things once thought to be safe. Pharmaceuticals are big big business. Scare tactics drive their profits up. I was listening to a homeopath who lectured about vaccines. She explained that there was a lot of H1N1 left that they then used as a base for the next years flu shot. I wish I could remember her name she offered an interesting insight on this topic. I realize that my school of thought differs from mainstream...but that is ok.
  11. You are incorrect...there IS research showing negative effects including those I have mentioned. Your statement of "stop whining and get the shot" is in my opinion offensive. Whining and believing that no one has a right to tell you what to do with your body are NOT the same. As far as evidence based medicine...seriously? You cannot always TRUST medicine. Look how many meds get recalled or pulled off the market. Some of us sit on the holistic side of care and there is nothing wrong with that. It is just different from what you believe.
  12. Although I am just preparing to enter nursing school, I have been in the medical field in different aspects for years. There are many people who feel vaccines are bad for you. I do not think it is right to require any vaccine. I feel it should be my choice as to what risk I am exposed to. If the people who get vaccines believe so strongly that they work then those people are not affected by my chosing not have said vaccine. It is me who assumes the risk of whatever it may be. There is a recent study that found flu vaccine increases risk of Alzheimer. Another example is that since our children are vaccinated against chicken pox...Shingles out breaks are much worse. This is because once a person had CP their immune system would protect them against it and as they were exposed to others with CP they got a boost in immunity against it. Now that hardly anyone gets CP that boost never comes hence later here comes the shingles worse than ever. Then here comes another vaccine for shingles. I just believe that your immune system has to be exercised. I won't get on my soap box...my point is just that a facility would never make a policy stating that to enter as a patient you HAD to have X Y and Z vaccines. I have never gotten the flu shot nor have my children and none of us have had the flu. I think this is an issue people just have to agree to disagree on...You do what you have to do to keep your job. It just doesn't seem right to me.
  13. That must have been TORTURE PM! lol...Congrats!!!
  14. Congrats everyone! I live farther out so mine should be here on Monday!
  15. Lol RayJ...it seems like I saw last semester where it was about 15 days...i think it feels longer when it is you stalking the mailbox lolol. I go back to work tomorrow and won't get home till 9 or so. I might have to have the children check the mail for me lolol
