You can often obtain a certificate from your nursing school after your first semester of nursing classes with clinicals and then take the state exam and skills to get yur CNA certificate. This is how NY state does it. ANd yes there is a clinial component to the CNA course. NY mandates a certain number of hours.

I started nursing school and new I wanted to be a peds nurse. Got my dream job and stayed for about 6 years. Then...got thrown into a NICU because of the shift I needed. I still haven't left a little over 10 years later. Love my job and the sick babies that I can help get better and even the parents most of the time! I am starting my NEonatal NP in the next week. So excited to begin this new career.

Going to a new place and new faces is never easy. That said, I think you should go to your dream job and take the Peds ER job. The experience you will get there will be great and you then can transfer to a better place once you get the experience. Peds jobs are hard to come by as a new grad, I would jump at this great opportunity! Good luck with what ever you decide!

I got my acceptance letter last Thursday and yesterday I got the info about orientation and such. I live near the Watertown area and right now I am fortunately to be working in a education department with more flexible scheduling and am taking Tuesday and Wednesday off and probaly going in late Thursday. I took a short break from patient care but going back to what I love the end of July or beginning of August. Having surgery soon so staying put for right now. The drive itself isn't bad I have done it before with thw BS orientation. I just make sure I am at the hotel before it gets to dark so I can find my way! Cancer67 Congrtas!!

I am also a NICU nurse that floats to newborn and mother/baby. We have respite care for the mothers and I have encouraged some who were exhausted to get some rest while they had the opportunity. Once home they are on there own without that option. To that said, our babies don't cry for hours in the nursery if they are fussy and can't be calmed down or need to eat they are taken back to the mom to feed and then brought back to the nursery. Sometimes new parents just need a couple of hours of sleep where they know their baby is safe and taken care of. While I had 3 kids and kept them all with me as much as possible, I certainly don't judge others for wnting to rest. And yes there are some parents that we strongly encourage to keep their babies because of bonding issues or because they need that extra time to learn to care for their munchkin. I don't agree that they should have to pay for this service. And babies stays are covered by health insurance as their are patients as soon as they are born and until a doctor writes that discharge in their chart.

Has anyone recieved emails detailing orientation? I have not recieved anything as of yet and am getting flustrated. I know from the above post that oreintation starts Monday. I went ahead and made reservations and everthing, but really wouold like more details.

I think the pinning cermony is so important. I attended one for my associate degree and was proud and excited about the whole thing. Last year I graduated with my BSN and was disappointed that pins were not even offeed for the graduates that were already RNs to even buy. They only had a ceremony for those that were new RNs. I would of loved to have had a pin from my BSN it took a great deal of dedication to complete with raising 3 kids on my own and having an injury that almsot disabled me.

Hello all! I am in the same boat. Keep emailing and getting that desscions will be out soon. Ugh, I hate waiting and can't wait to know if I am accepted. I have applied for the Neonatal NP program. Glad to here I am not the only one in this situation. I am to not asking for time off until I know for sure, but glad to know that orientaion dates are the 14 to the 16. I thought they were this week coming up and I would of had a conflict at work. I am gonna go crazy if I don't know soon. This all makes me feel a little better thought I hadn't heard so I didn't get in. My hopes are high again!!
