  1. Go for it if you have the chance. BUT you need a long heart to heart with the family members. They need to fully consent (just got done with professional aspects) to what is going to take place. There is going to be a big empty spot where their parent once was. Holy crap school monopolizes your time! I started school with a 13 mo. old and spouse. She is awesome about the sacrifices we BOTH have to make. We both agreed before it started to make this work but then the reality of the situation hit, it was and is hard. To make a short story long, take how much of a time committment you think it will take and triple it.
  2. Schools want an entire package brotha. I had a 3.4 GPA in cummulative under grad, significantly higher in sciences. I'm halfway through the first semester and kicking it and taking names. Just apply:) Shotgun the applications, I promise you'll find a program that will take you. Confidence goes a long way!!!!
  3. Well sir, I think you will gain an extremely thorough education in CRNA school to more than prepare you to enter into practice. EWW, double the student loans for the same degree?
  4. http://www.palmsource.com/interests/anesthesiology/#10 This site is pretty cool! I think I got it from one of the forums. Try searching the forums for "PDA". What is nice is that a lot of programs let you trial them, I suggest you do that. There are a lot of programs that sound great and turn out to be cheezy.
  5. If drug testing is what your worried about now, then your headed to the wrong profession. I can see major patient endangerment and federal offenses in your future. The access, availability and low supervision coupled with a tendancy to self medicate is a disasterous combo!
  6. I don't think it is the mechanics/operation they are most concerned with, moreso the interpretation of the data. In certain populations, i.e. cardiac, you live and die by the numbers and interpreting and treating the patient appropriatly is a must. I also wouldn't say you are excluded just because of the limited number of cases. Highlight that you have experience with swans, not limited experience. Going into the interview prepared to interpret a set of hemodynamic number couldn't hurt either. Good Luck.
