  1. I will be able to take leave through my current RN job before even starting the new job the only difference it may make to the new employer is in terms of start date. I'm just looking for some guidance on whether or not to disclose the pregnancy this early in the process or whether I should wait for an offer. The California BON says it will take up to 12 weeks just to process my RN license (which needs to be done before my NP license) and i don't know if the hospital would move forward with all of the medicaid/care background stuff until they have that- thus putting me out 6 months anyway.
  2. I'm a new NP and have had trouble finding a position in Cardiology. I've had some phone/skype interviews for an excellent position that I'm really excited about. I am pregnant and due in May. I'm afraid if I disclose this to them I will be passed up for the position. Should I disclose it or should I wait. Additionally it is for a position in California and I am currently licensed in Colorado, so if offered the position my start date would probably not be until after baby is here anyway. Anyone know how long the credentialing/onboarding process takes in CA (In CO it takes 3-4 months under optimal conditions).
  3. I haven't personally worked at either, but I have gotten a lot of advise (unsolicited or not) during my own job search in the Denver area. I've heard pretty good things about Centura, particularly Porter. I also had a clinical there and nurses seemed pretty happy in general. I haven't heard about Castlerock in particular but its a brand new beautiful facility. About Swedish- I've had 3 different people who formerly worked at Swedish tell me to absolutely not apply there. No one could really pinpoint one specific reason why not but to have 3 unrelated bad experiences convinced me not to even bother applying there.
  4. I've always dreamed about being an ED nurse and even was placed in a busy level 1 trauma center ED for my senior practicum. I thrived- had an amazing experience and learned so much. I did hear about burnout etc. and noticed a little bit how the ICU or floor nurses kind of have a little bit of... tension (don't know if thats the right word, maybe lack of appreciation for how the ED is a very different environment?). Anyway, there is a new grad opening in this ED. My fear is that if I decide in 5 years that I want something a little slower paced- with no floor experience will I be able to get a job anywhere else. I currently work as a student nurse extern in a PCU, enjoy the unit and have an interview scheduled there as well. I can also appreciate that things work much differently on the 2 units, priorities are very different... I know I want to be in the emergency department, but would it be smarter to spend a few years in the PCU or on a floor first? Anyone with experience in this situation or just with advice in general? Thanks!
  5. So your letter actually said wait listed?
  6. I got denied for the ACNP. It doesn't even say anything about being wait listed or anything but I had an interview so I'd assumed at very least I'd be wait listed. I'm devastated, I don't know what im going to do.. I'm missing a pre-req for the Rush & Depaul programs (Never took Orgo LAB and you now need those before you can even apply). Did those of you that got wait-listed actually say in the letter that you were wait listed? Is anyone who got accepted ACNP thinking about going to Rush or Depaul instead? It's hard to hold back the tears after waiting so long
  7. I was just wondering if anyone who is waiting to hear from UIC previously has been wait-listed from any of the other programs (at Rush or DePaul). I'd read from last year's group that there were a few people accepted to UIC that then got into one of the other programs from the wait list so decided to go there instead- so just curious. Hopefully we all hear soon!
  8. Does anyone have any idea from friends that previously applied or anything about how many wait listed people ever get in? It looks like last year people got their email acceptance letters on 4/26, I'm going nuts waiting to hear!!
  9. So has anyone heard back about the ACNP that did an interview? Or have any idea when we will hear back? Last year they found out around 4/25. I think the group interview was handled really poorly.. I thought there'd be a chance for a discussion but to just ask us 3 questions sucked. I have no idea if it went well or not. It felt like they had pretty much already made their decisions before we even walked in there. I'm super anxious as well waiting around for a decision and have this terrible feeling I'll be denied or wait listed. I felt like there was one guy in my group who didn't seem as qualified but the other 3 all seemed super qualified- plus I think a guy might get a little extra advantage just based on his gender.
