At the camp I worked at for a couple weeks last summer (and am returning for the whole summer this year) this is how we did meds: each camper's meds were in a baggie with their name we had muffin tins (multiple depending on how many kids with meds that session) and labeled each spot with a name each spot then got a med cup labeled am/lunch/pm/hs- one for each time meds were needed then each day during a slow period, i would put go down my paper mar with each baggie and sort out the meds for the next 24hrs. if it was something like inhaler or liquid med, i would put an additional sticker on that time's med cup which would alert me to recheck the mar for something other than pills this process actually worked really well. everything was kept in a locked cabinet.
  2. Thanks for this information. This summer I'm heading to a camp in NY for 3 months. I was there for the last 2 weeks of last summer's session. The camp operates in 2 ways. Kids (6-17) come on Sunday afternoon, leave on Friday afternoon. Adult special needs campers come on Monday, leave on Friday. The camp health center usually operates with 1 or 2 nurses, each only doing 1 week at a time (I was the only one who did 2 weeks in a row last year). There wasn't really any consistency. There was no health screening on check in. The most I did at check in was make sure I had the signed MD order form and check in medications. It was usually hard to keep the camper/family attention long enough to do these things, let alone any real screening. Usually there were a couple campers that never even checked in with me. I'm not sure how to address this. I know I'm going to be given more control this year. I'm leading part of counselor orientation this year and my job starts 2 weeks before camp does. Even with that, I don't think I'll get much actual physical support for any check in process. Some weeks I will have a second (volunteer) nurse with me. Suggestions?
  3. I'd love to have that list of orders too if it's still available. I'm heading to NY for a camp next month. Thanks! [email protected]
