I was waitlisted last year and got in this year. I know exactly how you all feel. It was frustrating because with my GPA and high TEAS score, everyone I spoke to was very confident I would get in. The uncertainty affected me and made me re-think my plans for college. But as I scrolled through my undergraduate catalog, I realized there was nothing else I truly wanted to do. So I picked up a psych minor, finished up honor requirements, and kept trying. I earned straight A's the following semesters, raised my GPA, and interviewed successfully for this year. I would say don't write off the concurrent programs. You graduate the program with the same UCF BSN degree, learn the same material, and do the same clinicals. That and the tuition is cheaper at SSC or Valencia. The UCF generic program is closer to my house though, and that made a big difference to me because I've seen other nursing students having a more difficult time because of their commute. But when it comes down to it, I regretted putting all my eggs in one basket the first time around. Last year it seemed like they kept some sort of list. People would call and find out they were "on the top half" of the list. But this year they made it pretty clear that it's a pool. I think the interview aspect made it less likely to have a numbered list, and I can imagine them saying "I want to take in this person because they clearly have X characteristic and overcame Y obstacle, and want to work in Z field." Stay positive and good luck!

@indecisive I applied to the concurrent Seminole/UCF program although I am going to the UCF generic program. I know someone in concurrent who is doing great work, seems like a fine school. I know the NCLEX pass rates are pretty high as well. Seems like good variety in clinical locations - Orlando is a big city with much to offer! I really don't know more than that because I'm a UCF student, but good luck! I know respiratory therapists are a vital part of the health care team :)

I'm also accepting my seat for the generic BSN at UCF, so I'm out of the running here! Good luck everyone, I'm sure you'll be hearing the results soon :)

I'm non-clinical also at Florida Hospital. I tried to play that up in most questions because I believe I was the only one with any experience working (not just volunteering) in that environment. I hope I came off as genuine because interacting with patients and their families is really the most rewarding part of my job!

I hate to bring up such a sad topic, but the terror attacks at the Boston marathon yesterday moved me on a new, extra level. Knowing that I'm soon to start my journey to become a nurse made it feel all the more real that I too will one day be responsible for people's lives. The medical professionals involved are all heroes, and this made me even more determined to get the best nursing education possible. Let the tragedy be a reminder of why we're all here!

It's better not to overthink it. I prepared, did my best, and for the rest of the week it's out of my hands. So I'm staying busy and thinking positive. There's enough real stress in the nursing program that we shouldn't burn ourselves out this early :)

When I did the apps on the UCF side I just filled out one application and checked the boxes for both SSC and VCC. Then a specific app for each school.

Hope you all get your applications sorted out! Applying to two schools for one program can be very complicated! I discovered that I had to send my official TEAS scores to Valencia (SSC will take a copy for their application) so I ordered them to be sent to Valencia and I'm going to give it a couple days to make sure they have it on file. Unless anyone knows if the TEAS scores are automatically sent?

Forgive me if this is a redundant question, but what is a good amount of time for a response? 1-2 minutes, right? Want to know what to shoot for while practicing.

I agree. I believe more than 10 would be waitlisted, considering 40% of the accelerated applicants were waitlisted. Although I would love for our chances to be that high!

I'm also applying to both of these programs as well as the Basic UCF (my first choice). I was 91 over at the Altamonte campus! I'm applying to VC as soon as I figure out my stupid Atlas login

I also got an interview! SO excited and nervous now! I'm probably going for a later interview (shooting for 1:30) because I have classes in the morning. I'm going to start writing up mock answers to some generic questions they may ask ("Why do you want to be a nurse?") and go suit shopping soon!

If they keep up regular trends, emails will come out on Fridays :) It's not 100% for sure, but it helps me stress a little bit less during the week!

I applied the first day the application opened so the wait's been a little extra longer for me! I'm also ready to apply to the Seminole concurrent program when that opens. Fingers crossed :) Hope to hear about interviews soon.

Phew- glad to know I'm not the only one with the incomplete section under the fingerprinting part. Please do tell what they say, because I emailed and never heard back about it! I got a 92% on the TEAS by focusing on some basic science (chem, bio, etc) and being confident with basic, no-calculator math (long division, multiplication, etc). That and just make sure you read everything carefully! :)

Hi MamaKate! Thanks so much, I hope it works out :) I chose nursing because I always knew I wanted to be in the health field. My mom is a nurse practitioner, and my dad is a respiratory therapist. I volunteered in a hospital in high school and I work at one now (non-clinical). I want a good career where I can improve patients lives! How about you?

I hope interviews serve their intended purpose! It's a little frustrating knowing that I've been waitlisted twice and that there are people who drop the program mid-semester for silly reasons. I was waitlisted for the SSC concurrent program starting this Spring. If I can't get in I will apply to that in Fall again as well as the UCF generic program. I applied to this program last year with a 3.4 pre-req, 3.6 overall, and 92% Teas. This time I'm applying with a 3.5 pre-req, 3.7 overall, and 92% Teas. I hope that's competitive enough for this cycle!

No call here either. A friend of mine who started this Fall said that a few of his class got in off the waitlist, but each semester is different :/ Anyone look into applying to UCF in Fall yet? Not to go off topic, but it appears they are doing interviews (as expected) and they also require you to complete the background check with your application! Thought I'd share.

I checked back on the email and found this: "[COLOR=black]Alternates may be notified of any available seats through January 3, 2013." Stay positive everyone :) I know I'm hoping to start this program in Spring, but if not that I will look into completing another major here at UCF. I was already waitlisted and denied for the generic BSN which started this Fall. While I am definitely willing to wait for what I want, I do also have to be realistic about completing my education!

The encouragement is much appreciated! :) At this point I have had to look into my backup plans, but the more I look the more I realize nursing is what I want, and I'll continue working for it! Hope I'm lucky as you to get off the waitlist!

Hi! I was also waitlisted. I applied with a 3.7 overall, 3.4 prereq, 92% teas. Finished my last prereq Spring 2011. I was feeling decently confident, but this must have been a competitive application pool! They should only now know how many potential openings they have, as the deadline to accept or decline your seat was Nov 2. It may be a better time to ask about your chances. Even so, I wouldn't expect to get a lot of information. I share your frustration... Being waitlisted is hard!

Not me, but I finally received my waitlist confirmation after contacting Austin. Step in the right direction I guess! But it's still really early, people have gotten in just weeks before the start of the Fall semester :)

Don't believe so. I'm almost certain it's a deadline system and not a first-come system, so those who don't reply at all will simply be removed, and the rest of us moved up. But someone feel free to confirm/correct that if you know anything.

Faxed RSVP Monday, emailed Judy yesterday, no response today. I decided to email it, so hopefully I'll be getting the confirmation soon :) Good to see everyone getting excited!
