Medical Terminology class--useful?
I took a MedTerm class during my 2nd sem of nursing school (ADN). How I wish I had done so prior to nursing school, since the class teaches you how to break up big medical terms that are mostly Greek roots into simpler terms so that you can pretty much make out the meaning og big words in the doctor's progress notes or History & Physical. If you decide to do so, pls do read the book required and possibly the exercises in it so that it will all benefit you. I am not a flash card person but I made them for that class per my instructor's suggestion and feel that I retained more info from the class. However, you may want to take the class with one of your semesters to make you full-time status if dependent on fin aid. It shouldn;t be too hard of a class, but fun, especially once you're already a nursing student, and practicing the terminology skills during clinicals at the hospital. Something my instructor told us on the first night: Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) literally is Through-the-skin via-the-lumen [of a] heart vessel repair. Good luck! -graduating 4th sem this May more prepared

Why go for a MSN?
Wow! So brief but informative! Thanks elkpark for this info. I also love how you said "different strokes for different folks" at the end, after giving your 2 cents. Gee, I'm 21 & getting my ADN this May but already looking to start at least an RN-MSN online option for this Fall. After reading this & hearing similar things from some nurses who got their Master's after working for a while bedside, I'm thinking it might be wise if I wrk for at least a year before going back to school to start an RN-MSN or BSN at the least. Thank you!

Anyone applying at Saddleback college?
Was just stopping by to look into Western Governors University's RN-BSN/MSN online student experience, when I decided to search Saddleback:) I am a 4th sem student graduating this May! It has been a great love-hate adventure:) I am so excited for all of you starting this Fall. You will meet a lot of the most wonderful professors, nurses, classmates in this program. The great resources Saddleback gives its students & great reputation are a plus. I felt like I've grown so much, emotionally & critical-thinking wise, after 2 yrs and that feeling is very rewarding! Looking forward to expressing lots of emotions during pinning this May! Excited to see y'all in the field soon! Congrats, all!

Exhausted... lost all momentum... one more to go...
LOL!! I love the 211-2 F analogy! And o btw, I feel nerdy when I think to myself, "God, I'm glad you kept me in nursing school," sometimes during lecture/discussions. I feel so privileged to be a baby in this profession at 21. Graduating from my ADN this May, & keeping one day at a time (and counting!),-KT

I am about to quit this!
It's great to see many comments here at allnurses.com of RNs supporting each other! I am glad to see a variety of experiences about WGU, one of my top schools in mind for my RN-BSN/MSN. Thanks!-soon to be an RN this summer
