I agree with all the posts, don't drink on call period. I have smelled docs coming in with etoh on their breath and I don't think this is an uncommon thing. I have actually heard docs talk about being out at breakfast and drinking mimosas. i wouldn't dream of doing this for the same fear you have duckfan. We have worked way to hard to mess this up now!!! Thanks for sharing.

Hello, I was just offered 80,000 for a hematology/oncology practice that is 2 miles from my home today. I was called by an office manager and I asked if the salary was negotiable. She said sure and that she would communicate this to the doctors. The figure I had in my head was 85,000 and now I am feeling as though I sounded greedy and I hope that I don't turn them off by my request. I was surprised that the person that called me with the offer couldn't tell me about the CME's, bonuses or other benefits. That makes a huge difference. I will probably accept this offer even if they turn me down because entry level NP jobs are very hard to find these days.

zenman, I agree with you somewhat but I disagree with you about the lack of planning making the degree not worth the money spent. Even if you are unable to find a Np job or even hate the role you can always fall back on teaching, or working in a hospital as an advanced practice nurse. I chose NP because I knew that if the NP role didn't work out I could always fall back on teaching or another form of advanced practice. abiagirlnp, jobs are really hard to come by right now. So I am right there with you, I am anticipating an offer from a group this week getting called back for 4th time. My initial plan of attack was to make myself stand out to prospective employers in other ways that would compensate for my lack of NP(23 years of nursing exp) experience. So I made up a nice portfolio that contained my peer evaluations, clinical preceptor evals, letters of recommendation, awards/certificates, goals, GPA's etc. I purchased software to make a killer resume and cover letter. I reheorificed answers to interview questions and dressed very well for my interiews. You gotta go in with your game face, be organized and prepared. I have received great feedback about my portfolio and I think it made a difference. good luck and keep us posted!

I agree I took the ANCC adult NP exam in April and I thought I was prepared for a less clinically based exam but boy I was so surprised. I couldn't believe this was the test that determined whether or not I could practice as a NP! I told myself I was going to take both exams but never did:) I just wanted to add that I thought that Fitzgerald CD's were a great prep for the clinical but I also used APEA.com and purchased some online tests and their Qbank which I thought was very helpful. i spent 3 months over preparing for the exam but I don't feel it was a waste since I will hopefully be better prepared for practice. what a great feeling to pass the exam!!! Hi DuckFan23, it looks like you and I are sharing the same anxiety. I agree with the person that replied to your request, we are so out of our comfort zone. We have gone from being the experts in our fields to basically feeling like new grad nurses again. I think the most important thing is to find your support system or develop one! Be sure to communicate with your employer if you are having issues or need questions answered. Do you feel like you have a supportive environment? I am guessing you do or you wouldn't have taken the job, right. Are there other NPs you can lean on? I would just be sure to let them know if you are not ready to handle that many patients and let them know you need a little more time.
