Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows what the hours are like for the MDE program. Do you ever have classes at night or on the weekends? What about clinicals as well? Also, do you know of any single mothers that completed the program or people who have families?

hello, thanks so much for your advise. I do have a bachelors degree in political science. I also have a certificate of completion in Phlebotomy. I did look into the MDE programs but I do not meet the undergraduate GPA requirements. So I planned to just start at the community college level. I have shadowed nurses and NPs before and loved it. I'm currently a teacher. I'm taking A&P 1&2 and Microbiology. Those are the classes I need. I'm willing to move as well. I will teach one more year to save half my income and then hopefully enter a program. Oh, I know Columbia University does not have a minimum GPA for their MDE program. I will try there.

I'm starting an ASN in January. I know I'm not a nurse yet, but have you considered travel nursing and then setting your preference to L&D? Also,I would ask your instructors if they have any connections to the local hospitals. Also, maybe a OBGYN Office may be good until you get your desired position. Don't give up. Hi, I'm trying to figure out what specialties as a Nurse Practitioner are best for single parents. I'm looking for flexibility as well and great compensation. I want to be able to be involved in my children's school activities and travel. I also thought of CRNA, but I know school is VERY tedious and demanding. I don't know if I could balance that for two years. Thanks for your advice!

Hi, I will be applying this Fall as well for MDE 17. I've just been doing my research on the school, getting my pre-reqs in order and seeing how to even approach this GRE. I MAY apply to one other school, but Columbia is really my dream and first choice. My Bachelors is also in Political Science but I also got training as a Phlebotomist in college which is where my love for the health care environment came from. I am in Central Florida good luck to everyone!

So my current school is giving me hell about trying to finish my degree. My degree is in political science. I'm SO tired of doing something that I don't want to do(in my 5th year). I REALLY want my BS, but if I don't graduate it this summer, then it will throw off all my plans to finish my pre-reqs for nursing in the fall and get into nursing in the spring 2013. ALSO, Keiser in tallahassee is the only program that still has openings for fall2012. I can do my TEAS test and finish my pre-reqs over the summer and get into the nursing program a semester earlier than expected and finish by next Dec. 2013. This is what i'm thinking of doing. I'm just ready to stop wasting time and get through nursing school so I can make a good living for my daughter and I.

What state do you live in? How long have you been an LPN? I want to get my LPN, but I'm afraid of what people have been saying about LPN's being phased out.... This sound like an AWSOME job!

I have a one-year-old, I'm finishing up my Bachelors in Political science this summer and want to get into nursing. I dont know if I should do my LPN and Bridge into an RN program, or go straight fo my RN. I would do my LPN first just to have experience to have on my resume when I am a new RN grad. and I think it may be easier to find a job if they see i'm already an LPN. the LPN program is 12 month and the RN program is about 12 months too. If I do the LPN, I would be able to work while in my RN and make a living for my daughter. LPN is cheaper also. But RN is my final destination other than getting an MSN in the future. I just don't want to become and RN and have a hard time getting a job due to lack of experience. I also have my Phlebotomy Certificate now and working on Challenging the CNA boards. Which route would you take?

I'm studying for my teas test now. I hope to get into the program Spr. 13'. I know Keiser is expensive, but I have heard a lot of good thing and also have a friend graduating from the Jacksonville location this month. If you applied, which location, what did you get on your TEAS, and how do you plan to live financially wile in school. I am a single mother of a toddler and I can't afford to take out any more debt for student loans. How is this possible? I wonder if I could get a job at the school and get a discount..... hmmm....

The program that your ar talking about is called "RN to MSN" meaning that you do not have a BSN. If you get into the RN to MSN program, you will take some classes that you would need for the BSN and transition into the MSN quicker. So when you get done you will graduate with a MSN and be able to sit for the NP boards. This is a great way to go to save time and also money because it's like you are getting 2 degrees in one (BSN and MSN). and I say this because you cannot take MSN( graduate classes) with out taking some BSN (undergraduate classes) first. I hope this helped. Good luck with everything this fall. Make a plan and stick with it. It will be so worth it. :)

Just wondering if anyone has attended the program here. I am looking to apply for the Spring 2013 entry date. I am nervous about attended a career college like this, but after ALL my research, they are fully accredited with SACS and NLN and their NCLEX pass rate is pretty good. So this is where i'm going where I can get accepted before I'm done with my prerequisites. Any advise?

I'm not sure how much it is in S. FLA, but the one here in Tallahassee, Fl is $7000 per semester. I'm sure it is in the same range. I would go to the one here in tallahassee, but it is not accredited by NLN, which means I wouldn't be able to further my education at a state university. The ones in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale are accredited by NLN and SACS. So they are THE REAL DEAL. You get a 25% discount if you have family that works for the school board. And I'm sure there maybe be other discounts. Also, my aunt is the CNO (Chief Nursing Officer) at a hospital down there, so she told me that if i' work there for 6 months, they will do tuition reimbursement.

I'm Leaving school to get into a nursing program also. Do what you feel is best.

WOW!! Thanks for that information. I think I will have to do an appeal then. I will be transferring in credits so I won't have to take so many pre-reqs.

My Major is in Political Science. I think one can only abuse the government if they plan to live off of it forever. I am trying to become a RN the quickest way possible so I don't have to be on government assistance. With that said, There is no abuse in my eyes. If I start the ASN program Aug.12', then I will be done by next Dec. So that is only 16 months. I figure I need to stop wasting time in something that I will not have a higher chance in getting a job and i DONT want to go to law school. I have my CNA and Phlebotomy certificate, so i am familiar with how nursing can be. I love working with people and children and I don't want to sit in a office all day. My biggest problem is family. I know they will look at me like i'm crazy, but NONE of them have helped me while I have been in college. I have built my credit, bought my first car, got my apartment and everything on my own with my daughter. But I am still afraid of what they will say. I need more of a support system than them talking down on me. Maybe I will just not talk to anyone for the whole year until I finish my ASN. lol

Hi, I am 23. I am 5 classes away from getting my Bachelors Degree. I have made up my mind that I want to pursue nursing. I am thinking of going to Keiser University for their ASN, and then finishing up my bachelors in one semester once I get my RN. I know this sounds crazy, but my reasoning for this is that if I graduate, I will not be eligible for financial aid(Pell grants) and I will have to pay out of pocket. I have a 1-year-old child and I wont be able to work as much to pay for school and living expenses. My main goal is to not waste anymore time and get into a program as soon as possible. Keiser is were I can start ASAP. I don't want to take out anymore loans. Im in so much debt already. I also want to relocate to South Florida for to the program (Closer to some family). Does anyone have any advise on my plan of action and how I could get financial help while in my RN program?
