I work in a CCU and we have been looking at our utilization of restraints, and we use them 50% more than hospitals our size so I have been put in charge of researching how other hospitals do this, how they decide to put someone in restraints, when they decide to take them out, and if they are using any specific tools to help them decide (algorithms, flowsheets, etc.) I am particularly wondering about ventilated patients since this is mainly where our restraints come into play. We have protocols in place to do spontaneous awakening trials every shift to try to wean patients off sedation and hopefully off the ventilator, as those two go hand in hand, but other ideas are greatly appreciated!

This was my second time applying. I got waitlisted last year. I focused on working and volunteering in the field and used that experience in the essay.

I got an acceptance email today for the Fall cohort! I am wishing all the best for you wait-listers as I was in your position last year and totally understand what you are going through! My stats: Previous degree: BA in psychology 3.65 GPA pre-reqs (all completed before application) 4.0 I have worked in the field for just under a year but didn't really talk too much about that on my essay. I focused on why I wanted to be a nurse and what helped me make my decision. Good luck to everyone waiting! Does anyone know if there is a facebook page for this years students?

@Midwife22 - On their website it shows last years' tuition at $39,081 for residents. Where did you get your spreadsheet with the updated cost? Is it really $15,000 more this year? That seems a little steep!

No news yet... From what I have seen here no one has heard anything past getting on the waitlist.

If you don't mind me asking, what did the letter say? I am currently on the waitlist for OHSU and would love to know for sure either way. At this point I just need to start making decisions about my future and the waiting is killing me. Thanks for your input! Congrats on Linfield!!!!

@aprilshower.emma - can you post the links to the loan programs you were talking about? I am on the waitlist for OHSU's ASBN and I am not really sure what to do about money. I know that financial aid won't cover everything but how do I make sure my tuition will be covered if I am not accepted currently? What if I get in a few days before classes -is that enough time to find private loans? What did you do? Thanks!!!

@jessel02 I live in NE near 22nd and Broadway and it is a short walk (7 blocks) to get to the #8 bus. It really depends on what you mean by moderately priced. What is your price range? I know there are a lot of places that will rent you a room in a house for really cheap ($400-$500) but you would have roommates. You could possibly even find one like that really close to OHSU - there is a lot of student type housing on the hill. If you want your own apartment you are probably looking around $700-$900 depending on where and what size. I recommend checking out craigslist for either situation.

I live in Portland currently and I wanted to tell you not to live in Beaverton or Hillsboro if you are attending OHSU. They are far away and the problem with OHSU is parking - it sucks. Take a bus or tram. As far as I know the 8 is the only bus that goes there. Here is a link to the route and schedule for this bus: TriMet Interactive Map TriMet: Bus Line 8-Jackson Park/NE 15th Map and ScheduleIt goes from N Portland to NE Portland to downtown to OHSU. You could also do what embracechange does and live close in SE Portland and bike downtown and then catch the 8. I don't recommend trying to bike up the hill to OHSU. The tram goes from south waterfront straight to OHSU so that is another neighborhood (though very expensive). Just a thought. Good luck!!

Thank you for posting this! I have been wondering if anyone else has received acceptance (or denial) letters. I applied to OHSU's ABS program and Linfield's accelerated program. I haven't heard back from either and every day I get home I am disappointed when the mailbox is empty. I read another post where someone said that OHSU isn't sending out letters until mid-April. Unfortunately, I need to know which program I get into (if any at all) by the beginning of April due to unfinished pre-reqs. If anyone hears back let us know! Thanks!!
