Hey Guys! Great news! I landed my dream job in Pediatric Oncology!! I guess dreams do come true :) I'm honored to have been given this opportunity and cannot wait to start. Unfortunately, when I did my pediatric rotation in Nursing School, it was hospital policy that Nursing students could no preform any procedures. Foley's, IV's, etc. had to be placed by the RN. I understand the idea behind this hospitals policy, but now am a little nervous that I have no experience preforming these procedures on children. Although I do have SOME experience with adults, I know that it is going to be much more difficult with children (parents watching, children scared, smaller/ more fragile veins). I absolutely hate that I have no experience with this because my learning curve will impact my patient... and the last thing I want to do is cause unnecessary pain to a child. SOOOO with all that said, do you guys have any tips/tricks/words of wisdom/ or advice for me? I am open to any ideas may have and want to do whatever I can to better myself for my patients. Also, any good websites or books you can suggest for a Ped. Onc nurse? Thanks in advance for your support :)

Hi All, I have a job offer on a Med/Surg. floor at UNM and was wondering if any current, or previous employees can give me a little insight as to what it is like working at UNM? From what I have read on the website, it seems like they really encourage their nurses to obtain further education and are supportive of their desires to get certifications/ participate in research, etc. I am a new graduate, so don't really have anything to compare the hospital to. Any advice, tips, etc would be most appreciated! Thanks!

Ya, they have not interviewed yet. Sounds like they will be calling people in the next two weeks to invite people to interview.

hahahaha, all kidding aside, but I think there is some truth in that! It seems to be all about luck of the draw :) Thanks for your advice!

hahaha, I feel you on the loans! Well good luck finding that non-nursing job! Hopefully we don't have too much longer to wait. Sounds like we will know in a few weeks about the interview status! AHHH!!! Good luck to all :)

Since we can't have had an RN job, what have you all been doing since graduation? Anyone heard yet?

Thank you guys so much for all of your advice! This was super helpful. After talking with some of my friends in CA who are also New Grads, the choice was pretty clear- don't move to CA without experience!!! One girl graduated 13 months ago and STILL NO JOB. She was thinking about moving to New Mexico or Colorado haha. Anyways, thanks for your advice- looks like I'll be moving to New Mexico! A second question.... about how long is it expectable to transfer to another hospital? I have heard as early as 6 months, but it seems like a year is about the norm. Is six months even doable? Thoughts?

Hey all! Looking for some advice. I have two job offers in New Mexico on Med/Surg floors. I think this would be a great place to start my career however, I want to be in CA where my family is. However, the job market is tough in CA and I'm nervous I won't be able to get a job as a New Graduate. I have graduated 5 months ago and fear that the longer I wait, the worse it will look. So should I take the job in New Mexico or move to CA and hope for the best? Any input would be great
