  1. I am with Medical solutions right now and they have been superb. Great customer service, my recruiter is fantastic. The hospital I am currently at is primarily staffed by medical solutions and I have talked to 5 or 6 travelers who all have different recruiters and they have all been very happy with both the company and the recruiters. might be worth looking into. photocodo
  2. So I am slowly coming to the conclusion that I want to travel but I only have 1 yr 2 mo experience working on a Tele floor at a relatively small hospital. I have already signed up and spoken to a recruiter from fastaff and asked her about my experience and she said that it will just depend on if the hospital will accept my experience. Has anyone had experience traveling with my experience level? are you able to consistently get jobs or are they tough to come by. A second question I have is how much time do people have between assignments? because of loan payments I cant afford to miss more than a week or two between assignments and want to make sure that I can achieve that. I plan to sign up with at least three agencies (if not more) to ensure I have a few options but do most people find it easy to maintain steady work when they are traveling? Thanks for the help Photocodo
  3. My wife and I live in Asheville, NC. She has recently found a job in Brattleboro VT that looks very appealing to her at Brattleboro retreat. We are trying to figure out what we will do if she is offered the job. My plan is to try and get a travel assignment somewhere in New England (hopefully near Brattleboro but at least within an hour or two. I have 1.5yrs of telemetry experience and would be willing to work med/surg or really any floor that would take me. From your experience, how common are travel jobs up north? Also, and I know this varies from assignment to assignment but does anyone have a reference for pay scale for a med/surg or Tele RN? My ideal situation would be to work 3 or 4 assignments over the course of a year and then maybe try and find a job in or near Brattleboro if we decide to stay there. Thanks for any help or advance. Cody
  4. That is my issue. I understand having an LPN or even an RN and CNA but I just cant fathom how they think it is appropriate to have a single RN on the floor. Even if there was only 1 or 2 patients you still need two people there.
  5. I already posted this but I wasnt sure what section to include it under so I reposted it here. I am currently a new nurse working on a Telemetry unit in NC. We recently changed to an acuity based scheduling system. It is a small (8 bed) unit and the way the staffing is set up, there is a possiblity that we could have 5 to 6 patients with only one nurse and no CNA. I know this is not ethical for the nurses or the patients but my question is are there any legal issues with the staffing? I have searched the internet and was unable to find any actual laws in reguards to patient/RN ratios or if you can only have one RN on the floor. It just seems that it would be a very bad idea to only have one RN on the floor, even if they are stable patients things can go down hill very fast. Thanks for any advice for this situation.

  7. I recently graduated nursing school in Florida and moved to North Carolina and accepted a job on a Telemetry unit. I started orientation at the beginning of February and everything has been going great. The other day the scheduling coordinator e-mailed me and said that she was putting me on the schedule to work on my own at the end of March. This will only give me two months of orientation which I do NOT feel is enough time. It is a smaller hospital and they do not have any type of orientation program. The hospital I worked at in Florida had a 4 month training program that included mostly floor training but also had different modules that had to be completed that went over the different body systems and different procedures. So I guess I was expecting some type of "official" program. Everyone on the floor has been more than helpful and are always there to answer questions if my preceptor isnt available. I guess my biggest question is how long should a New Grad be allowed for orientation? I am going to talk with her in person and tell her that I dont feel comfortable being on my own after only 2 months. I need her to understand that I want to protect the patients, my license and the hospital. Im just not sure how much time I should ask for because I have heard people say they have had anywhere from 4 months to a year for their NG training. Thanks for any responses. Cody
