  1. I think nursing informatics would make maximum use of technology and math. As for being recession proof, all nursing jobs are pretty much that. If you are interested, you can check out the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Administration at Stevens-Henager College. The school offers an emphasis in nursing informatics with this program. However, I do believe that this degree is available only to practicing nurses. Visit the college website for more info.
  2. I think you’re making a very smart move. Nursing is an excellent career to be in right now. In fact, it has been ranked as the top career of 2012 by the U.S. News and World Report! Regarding your age, I think you’ll do just fine so long as you have the mental and physical strength to endure the pulls and pressures of the job. As you may know, nursing involves being on your feet the whole time and working closely with patients who are sick or injured. If you’re up for it, then don’t let your age stop you. And there are certain advantages of entering this field at a slightly advanced age. For one, you will bring with you a vast pool of valuable life experiences all of which will help you deal with your patients. I also believe people your age, because of all that they’ve been through in their personal life and career, are more confident, professional and wiser than fresh grads. So, use that to your advantage in your new career. You should start the process soon by shortlisting appropriate nursing programs at schools of your choice. While you’re doing that, take a look at the Associate’s degree in Nursing Education at Stevens-Henager College. The program can be completed in just 22 months on their flexible schedule, giving you a chance to begin your career that much sooner!
  3. Since you have thought about this enough, you probably know that the job of a staff nurse involves being on your feet the whole day long and can be physically exhausting even for the youngest professionals. If you are up for it physically and ready to start at the bottom of the profession's rung, then by all means go ahead and fulfill your dream. It's better achieved late than never. Have you also given a thought to how you plan to become a nurse? The shortest route to becoming a registered nurse is completing an Associate's degree in Nursing. It will take you roughly two years to finish this degree and sit for the NCLEX-RN exam, which you need to pass to obtain your RN license.
