how long was it before any of you guys were contacted for an interview after you applied and mailed your packets?

Xandarosa, hey! and yeah, im sure it'll take about a week or so for HR to review it before they send it to the hiring manager - that's how long it took before my status changed to "route" but i still haven't gotten a call yet. are you from texas?

ah. no one applying for ED? and ED only takes about 10? well, that's frightening. im applying to ED. i mailed my application 2/26 and saw that my status was in "route" yesterday. i hope i get an interview - i really want this experience. and the other position i applied for was med-surg (that status is still "applied"). hey! i have that book and i love it (however mines is 2012-2013 but im sure it's very similar). i took the computer generated 180-question test and i got a 62% - im disappointed in my percentage as well, but at the same time im not because hey - it could have been worse, especially since i havent been reviewing much. i was going through the questions pretty quickly too b/c i despise extrememly long exams and i tend to change answers when i dwell on a question for too long. i am not sure what percentage is an indication of passing NCLEX but i do plan on doing the questions in that book; they are really good i believe. are you studying anything else? and when do you plan on taking NCLEX?

I think I want to go into ER. This is because there is lots of teamwork (well, I guess that's based on the workers), it's also standard protocols rather than scheduled orders on the floor, and the MD is always present when needed...though it's a challenge, I'm up for it. What about you guys?

I will be graduating this May and I have decided that I want to go into the ER field because I like what the speciality as a whole has to offer. It seems like a great learning environment and you're always moving (which is what I prefer). But, I have no ER experience such as working as an ER tech or EMT and such things as those. I have spent most of my clinical hours on acute/chronic care floor such as medical-surgical, ICU and LTAC floors. However, I don't plan to jump and run with the wagon; it's an ER internship at a teaching hospital that I want to apply to first with classroom experiences as well. I am well aware that it's going to be challenging and as a nurse my time management and prioritization must be "on point" most definitely. So, would it be rational to do the ER internship with ER no experience? Thanks!

If time isn't an issue for you and you have the time to review them...it's a Kaplan Medication book on Amazon with about 300 meds with SEs and nursing considerations but not all-inclusive (its pretty short and sweet)- its 312 pages and it's a compact book. on the front of each page are 2 meds and on the back of that page are the SEs and nursing considerations. the bad part is that it doesnt have an index, but there is a table of contents and the meds are categorized by classifications. it's $9 bucks. it's also some reviews about it on amazon if you want some other opinions.

hey! I graduate in May and I was thinking the same thing. Is Hurst or Kaplan really gonna be helpful to me; maybe it will and maybe it won't. However, I really don't want to spend $350-500 on a prep course and then fail. But I think it's a refund if you fail the NCLEX or something (but I don't want to fail the NCLEX). And, I don't want to take the NCLEX and pass and think to myself this prep was useless (however, some hospitals will reimburst you NCLEX and the prep course cost). So, I was actually considering doing the 3-week course for NCSBN (plus, I believe they were the actual creators of the NCLEX - i think, not completely sure). In addition, it's only $50 bucks. But, dont let me discourage you in any way. I've heard some pretty good reviews and it does help some people. Also, these are the resources I have for the NCLEX: LaCharity, Exam Cram, Saunders, NCLEX 4000, Lippincott's Q & A - Billings, Kaplan Strategies Book, Kaplan's Medication Book and a couple other books. Yeah, I 've heard about that...the over 300 applicants, 15 interviewed and 5 chosen from one of these posts on allnurses.com. And you were 1 of the 5, thats awesome. I've been looking on Seton's website and there has been no openings for RN I nurses for any of the Seton hospitals, only experienced nurses! Hopefully I can get an internship at S & W or just a position. And 1:5/6 nurse: patient ratio is high? What is the usual nurse: patient ratio? That's the usual N:P ratio here where I'm from, although I would like to have 4 at the most. And since you recommend S &W, why don't you work there? And as Jack asked, do you know the pay and shift differentials...I'd like to know that as well. And besides S&W Temple, what other specific hospitals would you recommend? thanks!

According to Kaplan: When applying: (1) Gown (2) Mask (3) Goggles (4) Gloves When Removing, do it in reverse: (2) Gloves (2) Goggles (3) Mask (1) Gown I just think like: When you're putting it on, start from bottom (body) to top (head) to extremities (hands). When you're taking off the equipment, just do it in reverse.

Thanks a lot. Yeah, if I choose to implement this review, I'll start right after graduation or 4 weeks before taking the NCLEX. Plus, it's only $50 and i'll likely study on the weekends too to make sure I have enough time. And just to make things clear, the 3-week and 15-week reviews covers the same amount of content (one is just at a faster pace) or does the 15 week-review cover more information? Thanks again.

Thanks for the input. I've heard about Hurst Review. As a matter of fact, a hurst review was taken place at my nursing school this past December, but I didn't attend because it was 300 bucks. Is it worth the spend?

Wow, going right back to school in the Fall? That's awesome. I am so ready to graduate I don't know if I could do it again (unless I had to of course). Btw...thanks for replying. I plan to do my internship in med-surg (1st choice) - peds, ER, then OB. And since you're familiar with this, I have to assume you're from Texas. I'm not...which is a huge disadvantage becase I can't really attend career fairs and personally talk to the "important hiring people." I've also been seeing some people saying they are unable to get jobs after graduating due to being graduate nurses. Hope everything works for the best. But, don't forget it's due the last Friday in March. The deadline is the last Friday in March. From now on I going to open my options because I am now aware competition is pretty fierce for jobs; for some reason I just assumed a job was going to just appear and float down in my hand like a feather, how naive. BTW I graduate this upcoming May. I am starting to get pretty freaked out about jobs now. And, have you all heard anything about Scott & White? Seton was my first choice, but I'm just making more room.
