Northeastern University CRNA 2019
Yeah they expect you to know how your meds work and whatnot. They were very friendly I felt.

Northeastern University CRNA 2019
Yeah I agree. They were hard to read. Many of the students go to the hospital I work at and have nothing but good things to say about it.

Haven't heard anything yet, but I assume we should all know within a few days.

2019 Boston College CRNA
Yeah they asked me that. I said I didn't think it would add to my clinical experience but that I'm interested in going back down the road.

2019 Boston College CRNA
They said they'd let us know by the end of the month. I thought it went well, but the actual interview was pretty short.

2019 Boston College CRNA
I've heard the interview itself is relatively short. It sounds like they put you together with the other candidates for awhile. I'm not sure what the actual interview format is, but I do not believe it's super clinical.

2019 Boston College CRNA
It's scheduled for August 7th. Just from the wording of the email, I'm guessing they have multiple interview days.

Question about letter of recommendation for CRNA program
Hi All, I'm currently in the process of getting ready to apply to a couple of CRNA programs. One of them requires three letters of recommendation, one of which has to be from a professional reference who is not an immediate supervisor. I have three options. The director of professional development for nursing at my hospital, a nursing educator, or one of the neurosurgery residents I work closely with (I'm in the neurosurgical ICU). Which one of those do you feel would be the best letter of recommendation to send from an admissions stand point? Thanks for your replies in advance!

Question about best career move for acceptance to CRNA school
Thanks for the reply! I have shadowed once but I plan on doing it again and I am currently studying for the GRE. The SICU at my hospital has a really diverse patient population that focuses heavily on hemodynamics and uses swanz and all that jazz.

Question about best career move for acceptance to CRNA school
Hi all, I'm just looking for some opinions and perspectives on what you think would be best for me to do make myself more competitive for admission to CRNA school. I'm basically just going to give you a brief rundown of my resume I was a good student undergrad, I graduated my four year program in three years (carried over a bunch of credits from community college) with a 3.74 GPA Cum Laude. I worked on a neuroscience floor/stepdown in one of the largest academic medical centers in the country in the northeast. I've been working in a Neuro ICU for almost a year now, but I'm also "clustered" with SICU. This means I'm getting trained in SICU for a couple of weeks so that I can float there on occasion. My questions is, once my year in the Neuro ICU is up should I switch to the SICU full time for a couple of years before I apply? The one downside I see with this is that I won't be with the same manager and that it might set me back a year in applying to school. I'm signed up for the CNRN exam and once I'm eligible I'll also be signing up for the CCRN exam. I'm a member of Sigma Theta Tau and AACN. Is there anything else I should be doing to make myself more competitive? Thanks.

Help with a drug calculation problem
Thank you so much!!!!!! That is indeed the answer! I had just been trying to use a conversion method this entire time (considering the test is just supposed to be on math competency and we haven't even learned this method yet)! Thank you! I sure hope they don't have any of those problems on the test! Once again, thank you!!!!

So not to sound stupid or anything, but how exactly would you go about using the formula? I've never used it before =(

Help with a drug calculation problem
Hi Everyone, My nursing school is having us take a math competency test and they gave us some practice problems to help prepare us. I managed to do most of them just fine, but there is one in particular that is giving me a hard time. Here it is: Order: Ancef 1g/50ml IVPB Q4H, infuse over 30 minutes. IV tubing is labeled 20 drops/ml. Calculate the flow rate in drops per minute for this antibiotic. Does anyone know how to solve that? I am completely stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also, if you have had to take a math competency exam, how hard was it? Thanks in advance for your response!

Scope of Practice of Oncology Nurse Practitioner
Thank you very much for your detailed response! So from my understanding, it really all depends on where and who work with regarding what you can do (diagnosing, referring, prescribing medication, making care plans etc..).

Scope of Practice of Oncology Nurse Practitioner
Hi everyone, I have some questions regarding what a Nurse Practitioner, who has gone through a program focusing on Oncology (I know Columbia University has a subspecialty program for this as well as some other universities), does. Do they essentially perform all of the tasks that an Oncologist would? If not, what types of things do they do from a day-to-day basis? Can they decide the plan of treatment for their patients or is that up to the Oncologist they work with? Any other information people might have on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your responses in advance.

Feeling Uncertain
Thank you all very much for the responses! I greatly appreciate your thoughts and opinions!

Feeling Uncertain
Well the only reason this person had such an impact was due to his unique perspective. The other thing is that everything I'm being told about nursing just seems too good to be true. Anything that seems too good to be true, usually is.

Feeling Uncertain
Hi Everyone, I recently spoke to a former male nurse (now med student) who strongly advised against going into nursing. He told me a number of things including nurses are nothing more than glorified CNAs, that do not have mentally challenging jobs, with a low ceiling and not much room to rise. He also said that males especially had it bad. I don't know if this is one case or if it is true. I don't want to go into a field I'm going to hate. Everyone else has said it is a great field, but I feel like this man had a unique perspective. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

Student Nurse Externships
Hi Everyone, I am currently a sophomore nursing student at the University of Connecticut and I was wondering if anybody could give me some insight into some Nurse externship/internship programs that I am interested in. I am looking at nurse internship programs in my general geographic area. I know that they require at least one med-surg rotation, but I figured if I want to be a competitive applicant I better start planning now. The ones that I am interested in are Yale-New Haven Hospital, Hartford Hospital, St. Raphael's, Mass General, New York Presbyterian, NYU Medical Center, and Mt. Sinai Medical Center. Besides the minimum GPA requirements, what else would make a candidate competitive? Thank you all so much for your input and advice.
