  1. Hi everyone. Has anyone heard of American Mobile. The rep. has been calling me. Can you tell me about their reputaion, pay, etc. Thanks :) Jaycrue
  2. Valium 20 mg as per withdrawal scale I've seen it given a max of 200 mg in 24 hrs. Ativan 2 mg as per withdrawal scale for clients with liver problems. and lastly we also give Thiamine injections one time or tablets 100mg for three days
  3. How old are your dr.s? We use a variety of antipsychotics, I haven't given much less seen an order for haldol in about two years. Clopixol-acuphase or zuclopenthixol acetate 50-75 mg. Olanzapine IM 25mg and ativan IM 2mg we also have Respirodone IM in use
  4. this situation seems to be a first for us, clients seem to use up the drugs before coming to crisis, Police officers on campus ha! I wish. Incident report was filled out though, I just hope the client was made aware that the drugs were disposed off or hopefully done in front of him! he might think we took it :rotfl:
  5. we seclude first then call the Dr. Got a question: A client came in with a crack pipe and some I assume crack and cocaine (small bag) client was disorriented. what do you do with the drugs? I left work before they decided on what to do?
  6. We are lucky in that sense, our Doctors seem to trust the nurses judgement, we usually give a verbal report over the phone and they give us a verbal order for seclusion and they sign it within 24 hrs.We also frequently recieve verbal orders for chemical restraints.
  7. Our facility calls voluntary isolation either in a clients bedroom or unlocked seclusion "theraputic quiet" should the client decide to come out he/she should be able to contract safety and behavioural issues. If these are not met seclusion is used and a psychiatrist needs to client within the hour.
  8. It would be great to have a business like that, I doubt alot of nurses would go for it, especially after NCLEX and CGFNS get all the money, not to mention our schools and CNO who ask for money to release our records as well! :angryfire Hey, what's on everybodys wish list for Christmas. I have my x-box and HALO 2 and my girlfriend says she's happy for now so everything is cool. How bout the rest of you?
  9. Maybe it's time to take a break and utilize your employee assistance program should you have one. You need some counselling to deal with your anger and resentment.
  10. Sounds like you have alot of unresolved issues
  11. Is there an agency or service that could do all your paper work for you for a fee? Do all your follow up phone calls, and send all your paper work as long as you provide all your documentation Then they just give you updates? .... just me being lazy.... by the time we pay all the fees were broke...
  12. My personal opinion; I suggest you work in a different environment one which will allow you to learn and grow, and develop confidence in your decision making. It would be great working in a familiar environment not to mention the staff, but to trully understand the change in position and responsibility you need to step out of whats familiar and take on a new challenge.
  13. The money definitely, but for most it is only a means to something more altuistic and personal.
  14. Welcome to nursing, Its gonna happen, I only know of a few nurses who claim they haven't had any med errors and all of them are in orientation :rotfl: My first med error was my first day at work! I didn't get fired but rest assured I never forgot my 5 R's after that, Do they still teach that?
  15. Well just got my results with good news, I answered 150 questions, my significant other answered 75 and I'll never hear the end of it. We used Lippincot and Diane Billings, answered a whole lot of review questions. I found the questions in the dianne billings review similar to the NCLEX exam. Good luck
  16. Thank you, I hope to make it out by March, enjoy the winter hahaha! before leaving it for a while.
  17. Hey, thanks for the info.I guess it's true visa screening usually goes for about four months! Would you advise agency work or apply directly with a hospital?
  18. So how many of us are in the process of going south of the border? How far along are your papers? Are you done with your NCLEX? Are you done with your visa screen? If not how far along are you? Where would you like to go and why? would it be weather or money reasons. Well personally i'm done with NCLEX starting my visa screen, thinking about San fransisco, more multicultural similar Toronto and better weather. I haven't thought about the money, I know it will be more that ONA rates.
  19. Like everybody says: 1. Lots of good looking women who make me breakfast ,lunch and dinner. I never go hungry 2.A day off in the middle of the week is amazing, I work 12 hr. shifts and I would not change a thing
  20. Hello; I just finished my NCLEX over the weekend and passed it. what I did about 7 weeks prior to the exam: reviewed Lippincot and diane billings questionaires two hours a day and at least 200 questions. longer and more on the weekend. No drinking or partying for about two months, answer alot of questions. you know the material just practice reading the questions and understanding them. They asked me alot or prioritizing questions but think ABC.. know your lab values, know your formulas, lasix, digoxin, vit k. bucks traction, trysomy 13. don't call the Dr. immediately assess first. Read and understand the questions,
  21. Just passed my NCLEX see you south of the border, where nurses are under appreciated but well paid. :angryfire
  22. Hello psych nurse. If you want a job in psychiatry. try the Centre for addictions and Mental Health Toronto, Ontario, This is a large organization but I strongly advise you to apply only for the forensic units(law and mental health program). these units are well funded and well staffed. the website is http://www.camh.net the law and mental health program has four componets assesment and triage. two midium security units, one minimum and one open rehab unit. Good Luck want my job, I'll be quiting soon as I just passed my NCLEX. :angryfire
  23. Good luck I'll be taking it on saturday and I haven't had a beer in two months! I'll get back to you as soon as I take it, or after recovering from my hang over, trying to get over my depression. Okay ABC--ABC--ABC flipsacanada
