Single mom of 3, disorganized, discouraged & stressed
#1. NO ONE gets a 4.0 in nursing school. You need to create a Master Calender and actually schedule time to study and family time. Your kids are old enough to understand you furthering your education and the temporary sacrifices the entire family will have to make. I am about to graduate and last year I had one starting college and one starting kindergarten as well as one in the middle! You will have to learn to ask for help you will need it!. You cant get through school with out a good support system. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Did I just get thrown under the bus? Or I'm a bad nurse?
I dont have any words of wisdom, I am about to graduate next month. But what you are saying is a big fear of mine and I imagine a fear of most new grads. Document Document Document is all I can say. We really do depend on the more senior nurses for guidance and I am disappointed to hear that the night nurse threw you under the bus.

Documentation of translator use
I am working on a case study and the patient speaks a foreign language. I am trying to find something to cite that says how to properly document the use of a translator. I cant find anything.

Nursing school discouragement
as someone who is currently repeating Med Surg III, I feel your pain. Telling my family and kids was the worst. Other people I just tell that I decided to postpone graduation until the next semester. People I know more closely I tell them I had difficulty juggling everthing (clinicals, class, motherhood, life in general) and am repeating a class to make sure I have learned and will retain the info. It is a minor set-back in the grand scheme of things. Good Luck to you.

The rolling backpack debate
I use a regular one and make sure I use BOTH shoulder straps. To hell with what people think. I have a shoulder problem so the rolling kind wouldnt work for me. I saw an earlier comment about taking apart your book and only bringing the chapters you need, I do that myself!
