feeling like i'm not gonna be able to make it
For my clinical site (one of the academic warnings), I'm going to meet with the clinical instructor next week to go over my mid term eval. During that eval, I'm going to request that her and I meet for 10 mins after every clinical day, so she can evaluate my performance for that day. I dont want any more "surprises" from her. As for patho, if I don't get a 79 on the test this fri, I'm going to meet with that professor again to re-stategize. Thanks for your response.

feeling like i'm not gonna be able to make it
Thank you for your response. I def have been thinking about alternative paths to where I want to get. If I fail one class this semester, I can still stay in the program, but need to repete. That essentially means that my program becomes 16 months long instead of 12 months. I am trying to keep communication between my professors. I had no idea how hard and fast a 1 year program was going to be. If I had known, I would have never applied to a 12 month program. But, hindsight is 20/20.

medical abuse?
I hope this is in the right section...... I'm a nursing student, and I had an uncomfortable situation come up with my clinical instructor today. I'm wondering if we were abusive towards the patient. Let me explain. An eldery female patient with dementia had an order for an in and out foley. We explained several times to her what we needed to do, and why, but she kept on forgetting. Despite us telling her over and over why we needed to do a foley and what it was for, she kept on saying "no" "don't" and "that hurts". Despite her saying "no", "don't" and "that hurts", my clinical instructor instructed my classmate to continue with the foley. The patient started to cry. I felt really uncomfortable with my instructor having my classmate continue to do the procedure. It felt like rape or abuse. What do you all think about this?

feeling like i'm not gonna be able to make it
Short version: I'm having major problems in clinical and Patho. If you've had problems in these areas and resolved them, please comment with suggestions and guidance on how I can improve. Long version: Backstory: My 1 year Bachelor in Nursing program started 2 months ago. We are mid-way through clinical and classes at this point, for this semester. Between being in class, studying, clinical and completing care plans, I'm already doing 12 hr days, everyday, including weekends. Today, my clinical instructor decided to put me on academic warning. This came as a shock to me. She had told me last week that she was disappointed in my performance that day, however, she did not indicate that she was close to putting me on academic warning. I'm trying really hard in clinical, and, of course, I cried my eyes out. I have to go to open skills lab every week now, because of this, which is fine, even though it cuts into the very limited amount of time I have to study. The other issue is that I'm not passing Patho. I am studying, but the concepts are very challenging for me so far. I've already met with this professor to figure out ways I can bump my grade up. We have our final exam in skills lab coming up and I don't feel prepared at all. It's just too much, too fast, too soon. I don't know if I'll able to pass this semester. Has anyone been in my same boat with clinical or Patho? How were you able to resolve the issues?

what's the minimum nclex pass rating your school "should" have?
unfortunately a ADN wouldn't work for me as i'm going to a masters in nursing program right after the bachelors. budget isn't my biggest concern- high nclex pass rates, good retention rates, high quality instruction are my main concerns. :-) thanks though.

Opinions on Midwife Shadowing?
P.S. please don't try to attend births as a doula when you are in nursing school! it's way too much IMO. do it now while you are waiting on acceptance letters. good luck!

Opinions on Midwife Shadowing?
i was a doula and i'm pre-nursing and will go to midwifery school after nursing school. i recommend taking a basic doula training now and attend a birth (or two or three) asap (i.e. attend a birth or two before you get into nursing school) for free or low fee. being a doula is like being a baby midwifery i.e. it gives you a taste of what the lifestyle/job entails, you get to see how it feels for you to be at a birth, you get to see the procedures hospitals have on L&D (the good, the bad and the ugly). for doula training, i recommend DONA, as their trainings are pretty short and sweet. good luck!

what's the minimum nclex pass rating your school "should" have?
I'm staring to figure out which five schools I'll be applying to and all of the schools I'm looking at have varying nclex pass rates (75% to 100%). What's the minimum nclex pass rate a nursing school "should" have? Thanks!

I have to take the TEAS test....
math and science parts aren't bad however, you aren't given much time for either section. i didn't do great on the math part due to the short amount of time for that section. i'd recommend practicing lots of math with an interval timer.

Samuel Merritt's ABSN program-question
Is anyone currently in the ABSN program at Samuel Meritt in the Bay Area or did you just complete it? I would love to ask you some questions. I'm pre-nursing and can't decide between the normal bachelors at SM or the ABSN. I already have my bachelors but I'm worried that the ABSN will go too fast for me (my bachelors is in liberal arts), hence the wondering if I should just do their normal bachelors. Thanks so much! I'll even mail you a Starbucks gift cert for your time if you want. :-) P.S. Please no comments on how competitive it is to get into. I'm aware of how competitive it is, no need to remind me. :-)
