I personally don't prefer to bring my laptop to class anyway; I'd rather write out notes. Thank you for your input! I am excited and nervous about school.

I start LPN school on August 20, only about a week away! I am wondering what to bring to class. All my acceptance letter said was to come to class in full uniform (scrubs & white shoes) and to bring one book (Intro to Healthcare Workers). Do I need to bring my stethoscope? Laptop? Other books (I have 12 total)? What do I need to bring? Lol help!

I understand how you are feeling. I haven't graduated an LPN program, but I am starting one on the 20th. I have a 15 month old daughter and my husband and I would really like another child. I know we are probably going to have to wait til the end of the program or til I am stable in a job to get pregnant but I don't want to wait that long. We are probably going to see how the first few weeks of class go before we decide. Do what is best for you and your family. I would definitely try to work at least part-time since you are fresh out of school. That way, you would have a little bit of job experience if you decide to take a few months off to be with your new baby.

I'm also 21. I went to college in high school (dual enrolled) and after high school but kept changing my mind lol. Finally decided what I wanted to do about a year and a half ago. I had to go back and do prerequisites for the RN program and then I didn't get in. Yes I agree, better late than never!

Yes, I was chosen as an alternate for Tallahassee Community College's nursing program for Fall 2012. They accepted 48 people and I was alternate number 14, but they only called alternates 1 through 4. I was disappointed but LPN school was my back up and I was relieved and excited to get in. My friend didn't get in TCC's program either but she got in the same LPN program as me. We are both glad that we are going through this together. I definitely do not want to start from scratch lol. I wish I would've known 3 or 4 years ago what I wanted to do as a career, I could have already been a nurse.

It's not a community college. It's called Lively Technical Center. I don't think they let you sit out and then come back.

That's what I was thinking. Plus, we are planning on moving in 2014 and I think it would be easier to move with a baby and a toddler than with me being all big and pregnant lol. We would have to wait til I'm in a job for a few months before getting pregnant if we wait, that way I will be in the job for a year before taking maternity leave.

It seems that I am okay with waiting if that's the best thing, but my husband is still not so sure haha. He's almost 5 years older than me and really wants another child (so it's not just women lol). I explained to him that we'd be able to have another child once a got a nursing job, he understands but we might end up having one before I start working. This would mean I'd only be pregnant my last semester of school, which to me isn't that bad.

That's one of the reasons for waiting, so I can have a stable job so we can move to a better house with better school zones. I don't want us to struggle any more than we have to already because I am not working while in school.

Wow! You are strong for going through all of that. I'm glad your baby is okay. I would really like to have a baby sooner rather than waiting, but I just don't know.

It doesn't help when your family and friends are all having or have babies. My daughter is already 15 months, time flies! It seems just like yesterday when she was born.

I didn't think it would be a walk in the park. I just wanted to hear others experiences. After talking with my husband, I think we have decided to wait til after I'm stable in a nursing job, even I that's not my first choice.

LPN school wasn't my first choice either. I was an alternate for a RN program, but not enough people dropped out in time.

I didn't really find what I was looking for here, I guess women who have gone through this before use baby forums and get more support. I really do want this (school that is), and I do not plan to give up my spot.

Imight not have been in nursing school before but I have been in college. I graduated 9 months pregnant and made A's and B's in my classes. I only took the summer off, and then went back to school full time while working part time. If you read correctly, when I replied to the 1st person's post, I asked for people who have been through this before to give me advice and tell me how it was for them. I don't need anyone's judgement.

I plan on getting my RN online after finishing LPN school, so I'm going to be in school a while either way. I would rather have another child before starting a new job rather than starting a job then finding out I'm pregnant and having to ask for maternity leave within the 1st year of starting.

dancingostrich, That's why I'm thinking we should wait to get pregnant til the very end of school. Yes I do plan on breastfeeding for as long as possible. I only breastfed my daughter up until she was 1 month do to some problems. I guess my husband and I need to sit down and talk again and decide.

Nurse2bKimberly, I understand what you're saying. My husband and I have also thought about waiting to get pregnant til towards the end of the program (the last semester). I know not all pregnancies are the same, but with my daughter I had no problems and had her at 39 weeks 3 days. We are just really anxious to have another baby.

The LPN program I'm attending is 15 months in length, ending December 2013. It's at Lively Technical Center in Tallahassee, FL.

Thank you for your reply! :) You are a great encouragement. My school requires that you have a signed note from your doctor saying you're in good health. We are going to try to have the baby during the summer, so I won't be going into labor while in school. If we don't get pregnant within that time frame, we plan on waiting til I graduate. So it's not like I'd have an unexpected pregnancy lol. I have already been in school when I was pregnant with my daughter, and I graduated with my AA at 9 months pregnant. We have a really supportive family, and I know I can do it. I am married, so it's not like I'm a single mother, my husband already has a stable job so he is a lot of help at home.

My school does allow pregnant students in the program, they will even allow time off if you have the baby during a semester. I am really asking for people who have done this before to tell me how it was for them, not to have someone tell me I'm stupid.

I start LPN school on August 20. My husband and I have a 15 month old, and we would really like to keep our kids about 2-3 years apart. Our plan is to try for a summer 2013 baby since I will have the entire summer off school, then finish up in the fall. We are going to be very careful about timing, as to not to be due during a semester. Our daughter already goes to my sister-in-law's home daycare, and she said she would be more than happy to watch any future kids also. Any thoughts on being pregnant while in school?
