Thank you everybody for the comments. I have not been able to look at website. But I want to say that I have a new preceptor. She is very nice and knowledgeable; she has been working in the unit for 30 years. And she gives me more freedom to use my critical thinking skills. Before everything I tried was based on my preceptor's likes "I hope my preceptor would like this ..... Or what if my preceptor doesn't like that...”.Currently I care for 5-6 pts. I still trying to manage my times better. But at the end of the shift everything is done. I feel so comfortable working with my new preceptor. I still have 7 more days of orientation. I started to feel so anxious about it. I heard that this is normal. Happy holidays!!!

Hi dear friends, I'm a new grad. Actually I got my BSN degree abroad, 7 years ago. I had little hospital experience in my country. After I graduated I worked as a community health nurse. Then I moved to the USA. After 4 years of living in the USA I got my license (validated my BSN). Consider as new grad in the USA. I finally got a job in a hospital on Telemetry Unit. I'm in my 5th week of orientation. The first 4 weeks were fine. I tried to learn the most I can. But what I did not like of my preceptor, is that she always complains of nursing career. She say nursing is the worst career you choose, because you have to deal with many things, adding that she expresses very negative about the hospital, manager and some coworkers. I was dealing with that and not put attention to what she says. Just I focus on learning the floor routine the nursing duties. I think she expects more from me and this last week she started to be over me and do not let me breath. She judges everything I do, criticizes me negatively. Nothing is good for her. I had never received from her any positive comment or encouragement. I had the opportunity to work with other 2 nurses (when she was off for holidays) and they were great, telling me I'm doing so well and I will be fine. I have been caring for 3 since my 2nd week most of them stable pts. yesterday I had an admission and I had to do head to toe assessment put meds everything you are suppose to do. However before we started we had a meeting staff and that delayed our work. I was able to give all meds from 10 am to my 2 pts. The 3rd pt. did not have any orders yet. Then I checked at the computer and I saw that DR. just ordered meds for my pt. and fluids D5% and 0.45% sodium chloride. So I went to get the meds and fluids and get the pump. Because I was rushing I got a pump from the clean room it was covered with a bag. I just got it, then I came to the pt room and I plug it to the wall, I took away the bag. And I noticed it was the incorrect pump ( nutrition). So I was aww. OK I thought I will give the oral meds that the DR. prescribed then I'll put this pump away and look for the IV pump. In that moment my preceptor came and started to criticize me. That I don't know anything, that I'm not a safe nurse. I didn't kill anybody and didn't put the live of a pt. in danger. She didn't want to listen to me and she took the pump and went outside the room telling everybody what I did. Telling she doesn't even know which pump to use. She is not ready, she is not safe. And the worst thing is that she screamed at me in front of the pts. And they looked at me as a dumb and stupid nurse. I went in the bathroom and cried, cried and cried, then I wiped my tears and I kept going. She told me I don't know what you tell people who hire you, but you are not safe”. I still have 3 more weeks to go”. I feel so bad. In my way back to home I was crying, and I didn't care If I had an accident. I'm so depressed. This is the only way I can tell my story. Now the techs don't even respect me and they do not even do their job with my pts. Because they want me to do it. I think they talk and make fun of me. Please somebody tell me is this usual, you feel you fail or nursing is not for you. I choose to be a nurse because I like helping people, care of them, make them feel better ( I started to volunteer in hospitals since I was 14 years old). So far my previous pts told me I ‘m a good nurse.

I'm going to start my new job in one week in telemetry unit. I'm a foreign educated nurse, with not experience as RN in the US. However I was told that I'll received only 3-4 weeks of orientation. I had work as RN in my country 1 year at a hospital and 1- 1/2 as a community health nurse. It was 4 years ago. They are hiring me as a new grad and my salary will be as a new grad.

Hi everybody!! I'm a foreign educated nurse. I've been out of nursing field for almost 5 years since I left my native country Peru. However, after overcoming many challenges, becoming proficient in English, passing successfully the NCLEX-RN and taking RN refresher course , finally I will be able to practice the profession I love. I was offered a position in Telemetry Unit. I'm so happy for this new opportunity. But at the same time I'm feeling so nervous. I do not have a lot of experience in this field, I've been reading and trying to learn more before starting my new job. I got my ACLS certification. But still I'm afraid, I'm not familiarized with the health system here. But I'm willing to learn the most I can. Somebody can tell me his/her experience as a new nurse specially being a foreign educated nurse. What can I expect?

Hi everybody!! Finally after almost 3 months of struggling for finding a job, I received a call from a local hospital. I went for a interview a few weeks ago, and they called me back last Friday. I was offer a position in Telemetry Unit. I told the nurse recruiter, that I do not have a lot experience in that field. She told me that they'll provide me some classes and orientation. Anyway, they scheduled me for this coming week to sign in a contract for the position. However I've never been employed as a RN here in the USA. What things should I consider before signing in a contract. I know that I need to ask about the work schedule, length of the contract and of course the salary range. What else should should I ask? Just I to let you know that I'm a foreign educated RN, and this job will be my first job as a RN. Please somebody can advice me more about it.

I will try to look for jobs in the areas you just mentioned. I will never give up. I'm sorry for my delayed reply. Thank you so much for your advice. I've been so busy looking for jobs and It's been so hard. No news from anybody . So far I applied for residency program for a Intermediate care in a cardiac Unit as well as NICU residency program. They are going to start at the end of October. But as I said no news. I'm really tempt to go in person drop off my resume.

Hello everybody!! I would like to have any orientation about how to get in NICU. Quick background, I studied nursing in my country. I have 4 years of experience working as a RN there which includes, 1 year of hospital, 1-1/2 years as community health nurse and 1- 1/2 year as a home care nurse. Four years ago I moved to the USA, I started the whole process to become an RN in MD, I also took a refresher course because of I was inactive for more than 3 years. Now I have my license and I would like to work in NICU or Pediatric nursing. However it has been so hard for me to find a job due to my unemployment gap of 4 years here in USA. I have applied for many hospitals in the area in NICU, maternity, labor/delivery, so far no news form them.I would like to get any advice about which positions should I apply that can help me to become a Neonatal RN, or pediatric RN. I'm feeling so frustrated, yesterday I went to a event for hiring nurses and I was told that my experience in my country doesn't count, and I should apply as a new grad. However I was looking for jobs as a new grad but most hospitals offer position for residency programs that will start next year. I can not wait any longer. Please somebody help me, I need an orientation about this. Thank you so much.

I'm in the same situation, I took the Nclex RN yesterday and I run out of time, at 242 question, I'm so disappointed, and feeling nervous, waiting for the results, I'm afraid to know the results, thinking the 50% chance f...l you are giving me a good hope, I'm so glad that you did it. thank you for sharing your story.

I everybody, I took the NCLEX RN yesterday for first time, unfortunately I run out time at 242 questions:(. Does anybody know someone who run out time and passed:unsure:? I need to hear something that will give me any hope, I'm not feeling well now. I'm a foreign nurse, it has been a rough path to walk, specially to gather all the requirements that the MD BON ask for, plus learning the language and learning nursing all over in English. It was so hard, I prepared for myself, using the books that people in the forum suggest, and when finally I felt that I was prepared I decided to take the exam hoping that I will do well, but when I was taking the test and I realized that it was 100 questions and the computer didn't turn off, I started to get despair, thinking that probably I will go all over the 265, and I did it,but I couldn't finish all of them, now I don't know if I have any chance. please help.

RBCs binds with O2 to work well, In SCA RB cells get the S shape(hmgbn A become in hmgbn S ) due to lack of O2, they become rigid and difficult to flow,causing obstruction of the capillaries. So in a crisis this condition get worst, the patient has decrease oxygenation and administration of O2 is priority. Hi there , I'm going to NCLEX RN next month. Currently I'm using Lacharity PDA and today I came across with this question about Sickle cell anemia : A patient with sickle disease arrives to the unit with sickle cell crisis. which action prescribed by the health care provider will you implement first? 1. administer analgesic (morfine) 2. administer O2 (nonrebreather mask) 3. start IV line(14 gauge) NS 4. administer vaccines I piked #3 because hydration helps to decreased the viscosity of the blood, (since the blood is too thick) fluids will help with better blood flow, improving oxygenation and tissue perfusion. However the book states that the priority is #2 oxygenation because hypoxia and deoxygenation are priority. but how it will help if there a problem occlusion of RBC?. Please somebody help me to clarify this doubts.

Hi pdarlyn1, let me tell you that if your are able to keep a fluid conversation with any English speaker,then you will pass. Of course ILA OPI is a lot of easier than TOEFL, or other test, just be self confident of your English skills, be natural when you talk and try to use some professional vocabulary. If you understand normal articles about any topic then it will be easy for you (like this thing that I'm writing now) Good luck in everything!!!!! and don't be scare remember "natural".

It's been a rough way to walk since I moved here almost 4 years ago:banghead:.First obstacle was the language, I came here with very simple English( If I could call it simple English ) at the beginning I struggled trying to pass toefl test. Then I new about MBN gives the option of taking ILA OPI test instead of toefl. So I Moved to MD and I took that test I passed and now I'm going to take the NCLEX RN. Please I would like some advices, tips anything about the test. I already reviewed Saunders NCLEX RN comprehensive review and currently I'm reviewing Prioritization, delegation and assignment from LaCharity. What else can I review? online classes more questionnaires please I want suggestions I will really appreciate all your help specially from people who were in the same situation that I'm.all suggestions and advices are welcome. Yes I did receive letter. It took a month and 1 week. I think it was because they were so busy with the new graduated nurses. Now I'm preparing for nclex RN, I'm going to take it on next November .

In fact I received an Email from them saying that my CES report was successfully evaluated and it was sent to MBN. Also I submitted the following - MBN Application for NCLEX- Criminal History Record - Declaration of Primary State of Residence Also I already passed the ILA-OPI evaluation (instead TOEFL). It has been a month since MBN received all my complete documentation. Unfortunately I didn't receive any letter or Email from MBN. I sent an Email to them asking for my situation but they didn't answer it. And they never responded the phone calls. Somebody knows how long it will take or if there is a step that I didn't complete. I read in other forums that I have to complete my registration for Nclex (Pearson Vue registration), in order to receive a ATT from MBN. Is this correct? or I should wait for any response from them? Please somebody help me this anguish is killing me:nailbiting:

Thank you again JustBeachyNurse I'm still waiting for any news, I think they just are very busy, this situation is very stressful, I can't concentrate for my Nclex preparation, anyway I have to keep going in this process. But I think if I do not have any news this week, next week I will go to MBN in person to ask about it, thank you again!!!!

Probably, I dint explain myself properly. what I'm trying to know is that after you completed all the requirements established by MBN, will they send me any confirmation letter?. How long it will take? (As I said it's been a month since they got all my documentation). because CGFNS sent me a Email saying that my nursing studies in my country are comparable to a BSN in the USA, but I didn't get any response from the MBN. So how can I be sure if this is correct. What happens if the MBN says that are not eligible to take NCLEX-RN exam? this is very confusing!!!!!!!!!

Hello mali_santizo , congratulations for your achievement, thank you for sharing your story with us. I'm a foreign nurse too. I'm from Peru, and like you, I was working in a community health center, I was in charge of immunization program, teenager program and TBC program. I moved here 3 years ago, At the beginning the most difficult part for me was the language. Fortunately little by little my fluency and comprehension in English improved. Now I can say I'm a bilingual (Spanish and English). I'm currently doing the steps to get the license here in MD. I'm going to take the ILA-OPI interview in a few weeks. I hope everything goes well. Then comes the harder part NCLEX- RN. You really gave me a lot of hope and encouragement that I can do it. Hi everybody. I'm a Peruvian nurse that is currently living in Alexandria, VA. I'm a licensed RN in Peru and worked for a few years in hospital and clinics. Currently I'm going through CGFNS to get a RN license in Virginia. I arrived in the U.S. last year and while I'm doing the paper work for the license I tried to find a job in the health sector but unfortunately I can't get a part-time job. I understand that I can't work as a nurse without a license but I figure with all the nurse work experience I have I would at least get a job as an assistant nurse or nurse aid. Unfortunately I'm not certified and if I'm applying as laundry aid or food aid they said I'm over qualified when they see my resume. I would love to get a job so that I may continual be able to use English in a work setting especially in a medical sector. Can someone please let me know what to do because at the moment I feel I'm in no-man's land and I don't know what to do. Also I have a Green Card which allows me to work.
