  1. What is the acceptance rate of this progam? Do people accepted get to live on campus at Regis, or is this a commuter program? What did students like / dislike about the program?
  2. jhaupert813 Thank you! I wasn't sure if I would have to commit to a different major my freshman year. Your reply was very helpful. Thanks for your help! :)
  3. If I don't get accepted directly into the nursing major, but get accepted into the college, do I then have to choose a new major? Or can I be an undeclared major, take pre reqs, and reapply to the nursing program later?
  4. Boston College vs. Northeastern University? If you attended either school.. What schools did you attend previous to BC or NEU? Why did you choose their Pediatric NP program? Thanks in advance! -Sarah
  5. Mom to 4, that is awesome! Continuing into graduate school is a great choice for many. I'm sure you'll get many new opportunities for doing so! Congratulations! :) Lynx, I know that people vent. This would be a much better place to do it than while you're at work. People on here will understand better than coworkers or your boss. :) But I did see a post today that was specifically told people to avoid nursing entirely. :/ It kind of bummed me out because I am soooo looking forward to my future! Perpetual Student, I'm glad you love your job. :) Of course some days are better than others, but it's good to here from someone who generally enjoys their work! Thank you for sharing everybody!
  6. I am a high school student who is very hopeful about a future in nursing. After joining this website I've received tons of great advice and points of view on my own threads, as well as reading posts from other people. However, I've recently seen a lot of negative posts about nursing. It is okay to vent and be frustrated with your job... but it's seeming more like people are miserable in their career path. SO, now, here I am, looking for a little bit of inspiration. Who LOVES nursing? What makes your job so rewarding? Please share stories. I would love to see some optimism! :)
  7. Woooo! Then hopefully I'll get lucky and be able to keep all of mine in all the time. :) I've always wanted to get my nose pierced, but I've avoided it not knowing if it would be accepted in nursing or not. Again, it will all probably depend on the school and facility, so I'll have to wait awhile longer. :) Thank you!
  8. Yes! I have worn clear earrings in my rook before! Thank you for the link, I will look into buying some. :) They are very helpful.
  9. Thank you everyone for your input! What I'm getting is that the nursing school's are more of an issue about jewelry than hospitals themselves, so hopefully once I'm actually working I can put my second and third sets of lobe studs back in. :) Thank you!
  10. nik415... Ouch.. I'd always wondered why nail polish was such an issue. You bring up a good point with paint chipping into wounds. Thank you for raising that concern!
  11. Glad to see that patient safety is in mind. :) And of course you wouldn't want to lose your ring! That would be awful.
  12. Thank you for your input! I agree with you on the fake nail thing.. I know that they can carry tons of bacteria and can be dangerous around patients. The bracelet thing seems kind of strange. I would think they would get in the way! Why do you choose not to wear things like nail polish or your wedding ring? They don't seem like they would be a problem or affect your work? Just curious. :)
  13. Many have discussed this topic, but I want to know, more specifically, about the number of lobe piercings allowed at your school or workplace. I am aware that I will most likely need to remove my upper cartilage piercing as well as my rook one.. But I do have three sets of lobe piercings which I would like to keep, if possible. How many are allowed at your school or workplace? It would also be great if you could share the area/state of which you work in. Thanks in advance! :)
  14. Is it possible that once you have your BSN to then start a masters program in psychology? Meaning that you're left with two degrees in two different areas? Also, without having to start psychology from square one, but direct entry from a BSN?
  15. Thanks for telling me about the path you chose! :) Knowing the experiences of others is so helpful!
  16. KelRN215, my sister in law works in human resources and hires a lot of nurses for DHMC. You're correct on them giving preference to BSNs, but in some departments are still willing to hire ADNs. What is your opinion on the RN to BSN completion options?

  18. Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Another thing I've been considering is getting my ADN first, then doing an RN to BSN completion option.. This seems to be the fastest and cheapest way to get the BSN, and still have a lot of hands on training from the ADN!
  19. I know soooooo many people have discussed the topic of ADN vs. BSN... but I need help making my decision. As of right now, I am not interested in any management positions which BSNs are often needed for. I am only interested in bedside nursing.. MAYBE management far in the future. In today's job market, realistically, is it possible to get a job with your ADN only? Or would I struggle to find a job until I finally earned my BSN? I live in Vermont, but very close to Darmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. I know that the area of the country has an affect on whether or not BSNs are required in hospitals. Thanks in advance! -Sarah
  20. I went on the visit, and they did so much more than I thought! There's over twelve weeks of internship time, and if you turn eighteen (which I do) during the course, than you get to shadow at DHMC! Two of the girls there are interested in maternity, which is a consideration of mine, and were even allowed to sit in on live births through the program. :) My only concern at this point is figuring out how to accumulate all my credits that I need. I'm looking into independent study options for the summertime! Thanks for listening and guiding me a bit! :)
  21. Thank you so much! I spoke to a senior in the program now, and she's having amazing luck with it. I will post back after my visit. Thanks again! :)
  22. I am a high school student in Vermont, and I need some help weighing out some decisions... I am a sophomore considering a technical high school in my area. The course I'm interested in taking is called Allied Medical Services. Here is the some information that was given to me about the program: "Embedded Credit: Science. Leadership Club: Health Occupations Students of America. College Course Option: River Valley Community College. This course introduces students to medical careers available in today's high tech health facilities. Students work toward certification in Blood borne Pathogens, CPR, Basic First Aid, Pet First Aid, and Medical Terminology. Two Project Running Start courses, which are taught in conjunction with River Valley Community College, are Medical Terminology and Legal and Ethical Issues in Health Care. These courses provide an option for earning college credit, while students are still attending high scohol. The content of this program is designed for all entry-level allied health careers with basic anatomy and physiology being taught during the senior year." -Taken directly from the info book I was given. I would go to the tech. school for three periods out of the school day for this two-year course, and then come back to my home school for the other three, this way I could still take chemistry and my advanced math classes my junior and senior year. I'm getting mixed opinions about attending the school. Will this weigh me down or open doors? A little more information about my steps in the direction of nursing.. I was in a program called "Daring To Care", with a series of classes before volunteering at my local hospital. Me and other DTC students volunteer in the nursing home, which is in the hospital, helping out with oddball jobs and engaging in activities with the patients and residents. After 60 hours of volunteer work, I can apply for a free or reduced cost Licensed Nursing Assistant course (only 40 more hours to go!) I also applied for a program called MedQuest, which lets me shadow nurses or other health care professionals to get an idea of what they do every day. I am interested in colleges such as UVM, Norwich University, and Regis College in Massachusetts. I know DTC and MedQuest will be good on applications, but I'm concerned on whether or not the tech. school will push me in the right direction or not. Will this program be helpful for my college options? I am visiting February 1st. Advice is greatly appreciated! :) Thank you!
  23. Cancer is an awful thing, but is actually what led me in the direction of nursing in the first place. My dad past away last year from gastric cancer. Up until his death he had nurses from hospice coming to our home to care for him. She walked in on one of his final days and noticed me adjusting his wheelchair and washing his face. She looked at me and said "You're going to be a nurse someday, aren't you?" It was then that I knew it was what I wanted to do. I am still a high school student but I'm taking the steps to becoming a Licensed Nursing Assistant in my state. I'm sorry to hear about the experiences you all have had with cancer. It is both painful to go through and painful to watch. My thoughts are with you all. Just remember that there is ALWAYS a positive outlook to things. One has to hit rock bottom before they can rise up! God Bless
