  1. I think what you did makes complete sense and is probably what I would have done. However, from a management pov, by administering both at the same time you couldnt tell if the behavior was coming from a place of pain or from anxiety. Dont think it was a colassal mistake, and with all the non medical interventions that you tried first and then the prn meds I would be more than happy to have a nurse like you take care of any family member of mine! Keep up the good work
  2. Im on a "Spirit Team" on a med-surg unit that is constantly trying to improve and keep up employee moral. In my experience "Haters gonna hate" lol The older nurses who express scepticism are probably the same ones that are keeping the morale low! I think some people are born complainers and and will complain all day but never come up with any ideas of their own to fix things. What I have found most effective is when they start trash talking a new idea I start saying positive things and suggest they keep an open mind. Alot of times they build it up in their head thats its going to be awful so they go into it with a bad attitude and because they dont put any effort into it, it usually ends up failing. Stay positive and keep us posted on how it goes and what kinds of things the vendors institue. I hope it helps! ~Kimberly
  3. Ours is color coded by role, RNs wear... WHITE Tops and either white or navy bottoms. Nurses definately did not get to vote on our color choices... guess how many uniform tops we go through due to stains! Techs wear head to toe navy, RT wears Royal blue, and all other departments get to wear whatever they want. No matter what color the patients dont seem to understand the system, everyone who walks through their door is "nurse." I think employee moral would be inproved if we could wear what we wanted!
  4. Im like that with snot... I start to gag just hearing someone try to cough it up (thats why Im a RN and not RT!) If you do come across vomit while in nursing school and it makes YOU want to vomit, try smiling really wide (it surpresses the gag reflex) or sniffing an alcohol swab, the fresh clean scent with help to distract you! Maybe clinic nursing would be a good area for you...
  5. Youre right, you will learn so much! I wish I had been a CNA through nursing school and I think I would have picked up on things a lot sooner. It is very hard work but the satisfaction you get from taking care of those patients is completly worth it. Good luck!
