  1. I think I heard back about a week or so after getting everything in. I know getting everything in seems daunting, but focus on one thing at a time. 1) Mail your application now. You can apply before finishing your prereqs. 2) After you get that in, work on getting your references, those will likely take a week or two for people to write and mail in. 3) After your application is in, you'll hear back on a testing date. Study, study, study while you wait for it. Before you know it, you'll be getting your acceptance!!
  2. I know this post is a little old, but I just sent my acceptance in to HCCC today :-) I am doing the night division. Are you guys doing night or day?
  3. Thanks! I really have no idea. I don't know what path to take or even what the paths are. I wish I was in high school where I had a guidance counselor to guide me threw all this. All I know is I want to be an R.N. I have been researching for awhile and can't figure out the best way to achieve that. I think I understand what your saying, but no sure exactly what it means in terms of things. This would make it take longer? Or it just wouldn't be a complete program?
  4. Okay so I already went to college and graduated with a different degree. I want to go back to school to become an RN. I was looking at accelerated programs in my area... but don't have the prereqs. So then I started going about trying to get the prereqs from the community college nearby (this community college was recommended by one of the accelerated programs) The community college is Hudson County Community College. From what I'm seeing it looks like they have a nursing program. I asked about just signing up for the prereqs and they stated that I could except first dibs goes to their nursing students... and that a few of the prereqs are pretty much impossible to get into if you arent one of their nursing students. They also didn't seem to understand why I didn't just do their nursing program. And the truth is I don't know because I don't know how any of this works. It seems that this would be a much cheaper option... but I cant tell if its the same thing. Can someone look at this link and help me out? Will I be able to become an RN through this program? Also I have tried speaking to people at the school but am not having much luck getting in touch with anyone. I work fully time and cant sit around on the phone either. 5. thanks for the responses!! i'm lucky in that my older child is school aged, so only have to worry about the cost of daycare for one (shes already in daycare so atleast their won't be any transition troubles). i've found there are actually 5 accelerated programs within an hour of me. which is pretty exciting! i think i'm going to try to take that route. because i went to art school i might have none of the prereqs (don't think my anatomy class counts, but we'll see. if so that would be the only one). it seems like some of the prereqs are pretty similar at all schools (all require anatomy & physiology i & ii, statistics, microbiology, and psychology) and then all seem to need a few other ones that are different (some want sociology, some want nutrition, etc...). i'm unsure about how to go about getting the prereqs. i see you can't even apply to some of the schools without them, but say for example one school requires sociology and another requires nutrition... should i take them both since i don't know which school if any will accept me? also does anyone know how competitive the accelerated nursing programs really are? all the websites say their program is competitive... i'm nervous i won't be able to get in to any of them! i had a decent gpa in college (3.42) but not sure if that will even matter since it wasn't a related course of study.
  6. Can anyone help me out with where to start? I've been researching for some time, but a lot of the info differs. I keep looking at it and thinking, "this sounds attainable, but I'm so confused!" It seems like there are a lot of ways to get into nursing! What do you consider the best way? I guess there probably is no best way huh? I graduated from college 3 years ago with a completely unrelated degree (Bachelors of fine arts) and have been working in the art field since. I have a good paying job which I hate. I also have two kids. So I need to keep this good job as long as possible. Best option would be either night/weekend classes, online classes, or an accelerated program so I don't have to take too much time off. There is a college very close to me that has a program where you can graduate with a nursing degree after 1 year if you already have a bachelors. Is this a common program? I don't have all of the prereqs though.... I wonder if I could take them online and then apply. Or I wonder if I wouldn't be accepted since my bachelors is in art and completely unrelated. Has anyone taken online courses to help speed things along? Someone else recommended getting LPN first, and working while going back to school. That sounds like a cool idea, except that the LPN program near me takes 2 years to complete. Which isnt too bad, except that kind of sounds like a lot to then have to turn around and start school over to be an RN. Can anyone help me out with information? I'm feeling like I read a lot of internet advice, but need info from an actual person! Also would love any book recommendations anyone might have for someone interested in nursing
