  1. Two patients is two patients, they will take twice as long, with twice the documentation...... The health insurance will be charged per patient. There is no two for the price of one in the medical world. I would just simply say "you do know that there are two patients in the home" if they act like "oh well" then I would make sure to just double my time in the home. You will have proof with your charting right?
  2. So stressful. I would try to contact the client again to see if the massage you left was heard. I would explain about the car and the phone and let them know how busy it is and explain that there is no excuse but some of the stresses with this type of job. I also would have given my supervisor a call when it happened, just so they had a heads up. I hope that this would not be a cause of termination, life does happen and I'm sure you are not the first to have a bad week or month......good luck.
  3. I am a new HH case manager for about three weeks now. I have been following another RN in the field for about a week. While this time has only been "skills, wound care...." for me. No charting. From what I have learned the first couple of weeks with Oasis and other charting and scheduling, I fear that I will never be able to case manage, organize, schedule, chart and so on with out getting overwhelmed and lost. I know I am new and that is human nature to have concerns, but I want to now from those with experience how do you do it?? Do you have a check list, reminders everywhere?? Will it just come to me after I am on my own. I have three months of orientation which is awesome. My agency is part of the major hospital in my area so things are a lot different from other agencies I have been reading about on this site. I just feel that there has to be some way to put it all together (scheduling, oasis, calling physicians, labs oh my. I was spoiled in the hospital with unit clerks, and the lab coming to do blood draws, and the doctors on the unit! I'm scared people, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA Tia
  4. Wonderful responses! I did start HH officially last week. I have been training on oasis and such. A lot of other readings and videos. Tomorrow I will follow a nurse into the field for the first time. First off my agency, which is part of the major hospital in my town, gave me EVERYTHING, seriously, bag, BP cuff, stethoscope, digital camera for wounds, pulse ox, cell phone, laptop, car.......and all pt supplies. The bags are from Hopkins medical supplies. It is the clear view one. So far seems like it fits a lot (was pre filled with tons of supplies). The nurses alternate from casual cloths to scrubs, probably depending on who they will see that day. Now,I feel ok about the supplies and attire thank goodness, But wow the documentation is starting to worry me a bit. Hopefully I fall into a routine and do well without stressing and getting burned out too fast.
  5. Thanks for the responses. I asked because the nurses at my home health wear casual clothing, I agree, seems like scrubs would fit better in most situations. I have heard of the diaper bag idea..... I'll be on the look out for something, I'm sure over time I will figure it out. Do you all drive your own cars or a company car?
  6. Just wondering if any of you want to share what you wear to pt homes.... Scrubs?Casual clothing? Do you have a bag that you carry and love, or do you take the same bag in every home. I see some nice home health nurse bags on the Hopkins Medical Supplies sight. And how do you organize your car.... Any tips or tricks? Thanks in advance for your replies.
  7. Hello everyone! I will be taking my exam on the 25 th and I am terrified, but am finding faith and support on this site. good luck to everyone!
