Its been a challenge and I have been constantly compared to the nurse I replaced. How great she was and how she did it all. It's frustrating.

Apparently we aren't allowed any overtime or will be written up. So apparently I'm suppose to have everything done at end of day. So can't stay late to learn.

I have been at this GI office/clinics for a little over a week and I'm contemplating leaving. I have 7 years experience in the hospital in surgery and IR experience and this is first time in clinic but has been VERY stressful. I have been running a clinic within a clinic and feel like there isn't enough hours and know there are not enough hours in the day to get everything done. Between answering 60-70 patient phone calls, helping the doctor with clinic, checking all the labs/reports, making appointments, insurance authorizations, med refills, and traveling to and from satellite clinic there aren't enough hours in the day. I have had NO orientation at all the girl I replaced left before I got orientation. So basically been on own. Other nurses in clinic help when they can but that's not that much. Is this normal clinic nursing? Because I find it much more stressful than the hospital. Oh I also took a $6/hr pay cut for the job.

Wow that's crazy. I really go into work having no idea what or how to do my job. I try asking other nurses for help and I think some are very new too and as clueless as I. It's a different specialty and definitely not like the hospital so has been very hard to do trial by fire.

Yeah there's no assistance or IT department. Yeah no orientation at all..it's been interesting. I can really honestly say I've never had a job with NO orientation in my entire career.

I just finished my first week in a very busy multi doctor clinic. Each doctor has their own clinic within the clinic. The nurse I replaced I got to "train" with her for a couple of hours the first day but that has been it. I've been expected to run this doctor clinic by myself with no orientation nothing. I answer patient calls all day, handle all the labs and tests, make appointments, get insurance approvals, medication refills, teaching on medications, helping the doctor in clinic and helping with procedures. I'm feeling super overwhelmed now and worried. I try to ask my co worker who sits by me for help and she herself is new and head nurse says "well the girl didn't give me much notice so you will have to make it work." I have six years of surgery experience in the hospital but am struggling now. I have never worked a job where No orientation is provided..this is new for me.

Our child care has been costing $400/month total for both kids. He works full time hours with PRN status. I know he said if he goes full time he would take a pay cut vs PRN pay. When he asked at work about going full time status they said they didn't have full time position to move him into.

My husband is supportive on whatever I want to do. I know he hasn't liked my work schedule either and has definitely taken its toll on my family.

Hey I think being active in my children life from baby stage to teenage is important. I'm not going to lie working 5 10-12hr days plus every other weekend and call doesn't exactly light my fire. I would rather have the time with my kids then make large sum of money I don't have time to enjoy.

Trying to decide if worth taking cut in salary to have more flexibility and learn new area of nursing. But I understand I need money to survive as well.

Yes I definitely get OT at current job but it does get taxed to death too. The new job I know is salaried with end of year bonus. But still would be less than what I make. Again was looking at the other benefits and more time with my babies. I like money too but value my time with my children more.

I currently work in Interventional Radiology department and I HATE it. The big factor is the work hours. Of course when I interviewed HR told me it would be m-f morning 8hr shifts and every 4th weekend for call. Well I have been working 5 10-12hr shifts plus every other weekend call. About 4 days of call a week. I was looking at Clinical Research office job which is new area for me but salary would be starting $10k less a year than what I get now. Dr did mention a lot of benefits as no call or weekends, kid friendly, and when get certified higher salary, regular hours during week, and other benefits..hour lunch and paid for and yearly office trips. But it is a pay cut and they offer no benefits. Husband works prn at hospital currently and so I currently carry the benefits but was looking into buying health insurance. We have new baby and toddler and I feel like I never have time to spend with them at all.

Yes I have experience. Forgot to mention husband works PRN but full time hours. I thought about buying insurance if went PRN.

I started job and on orientation period and have been working M-F 10-12hr days plus every other weekend call and four days a week of call regularly. Of course that was not told to me on my interview. So I hate my schedule and not really liking my job now. Is PRN best option as far as being able to work and have a life with my small child and infant? Or better area of nursing that offers better scheduling? Right now, I have no time with my new baby and young son. Also my husband takes call and our call days have conflicted and my charge seems unwilling to work with me but my husband Charge is willing to work with me but puts schedule out day before new one is due..so no time to plan.

I was thinking of interviewing for a weekend hospice nursing job. I'm new to the hospice world as my experience is in OR nursing and Interventional Radiology but I'm sick of working 5 10-12hr M-F days and doing 4 days of call a week. I like the idea of having my weekdays off. How is a weekend job with hospice?

Yeah I didn't like not knowing that I'm messing up until a meeting with Charge and manager. They have had me orienting with different people and one nurse does things one way and charge does things differently. It's hard trying to learn when things and people are inconsistent. Every nurse I've been with which some aren't even regular staff all do things different but then in the meeting being told I'm wrong. Sometimes I want to pull my hair out.

I just started a new job in a different department/area of nursing than my background. Im in a critical care nursing area. I feel discouraged as I thought I was doing better than what was told to me yesterday at meeting with manager and Charge Nurse. I was upset that I have to find out in a formal meeting later on that I haven't been doing right. I would have thought that would be something one would tell you right away especially when dealing with patient safety. I do feel like my orientation has taken me longer to learn than I thought it would. I have five years experience as OR circulator and Outpatient PACU but critical care nursing is completely new to me. I love learning especially love the critical care nursing but don't know if I need to give things more time or move on. I'm definitely humble I forgot what it's like to feel like starting over again. Right now I'm in Interventional Radiology and have been trying to learn our four different areas and a bunch of procedures, and learning ventilators and drips in short period of time and limited staffing. I was told that I need to be more confident but hard to feel confident in a brand new area of nursing and new hospital and doctors I'm not familiar with. I'm 4.5/5 weeks in orientation and thought I was progressing in right direction but after the meeting I'm now having doubts. I took the job thinking it would help me one day move into the Cath Lab(my dream). Now I'm wondering if I should stay and hope things get better or move on and try ICU and learn more critical care skills.

I was considering CRNA school but didn't know if Interventional Radiology was considered critical care experience. Or if it was just ICU. We do moderate sedation, work with ventilation patients and do tPA, nitro and heparin drips but only for limited time.

I was looking into CRNA school and it mentions having critical care experience. I currently work in Interventional Radiology and prior worked in Outpatient Surgery as circulator and PACU. I wasn't sure if all of those counted as "critical care" experience. Although in Interventional Radiology we do deal with moderate sedation, tPA, nitro and heparin drips, and pts on ventilators but I know we only have them a limited time. Any thoughts?

My family and I were looking to relocate to the LA area from FL. The pay in FL is awful for nurses..def not good with matching cost of living. How is the job market out there for RNs? I have 4 years experience and have BSN with BLS, ACLS and PALS. My husband is about to take boards so he will be new nurse and has OR tech background. How is the LA area salary in relation to cost of living? Best hospitals in the area?

Yeah the closing date was a month ago today. I frequently check usajobs and right now my status is still application received. I was just wondering if process really that slow or do I just hang it up

Hey how long does it take to get an interview or hear back from them about my application? I know I have the requirements for the RN clinic job and then some. It has been a month exactly since I applied. Every time I try to call HR about my app I get the run around. Is it normal to take this long or should I just hang it up? Usajobs only tells me my status is received..still after a month. I thought I would hear something by now. Confused on what to do next

I applied to VA clinic exactly one month ago. Or when position closed. How long does it take to hear back from them regarding an interview or job? Does it normally take awhile or should I assume I didn't get the job? Should I give up hope? Every time I try to reach someone in their HR I get the run around with no answers. I feel like I have the proper qualifications for the position, as I have a few years experience as RN BSN in hospital. Anyone out there know the VA hiring process? I remember applying for job had much paperwork with the process.
