Lutheran School of Nursing
I'm not saying the LSN program is bad, considering I went there and now have my Masters however what I'm saying is true for those persuing Magnet status we are not hiring ADN prepared nurses we are focusing on BSN prepared nurses. There is a certain percentage you have to have of BSN / MSN and PhD prepared nurses/faculty as a requirement to apply and keep your status. Not stating it was not a high level of education sorry if that was misunderstood. SSM is one of the very few that are accepting a massive amount of GNs for their program in the STL area, glad you found a job and hope those that are still looking find one soon.

Lutheran School of Nursing
This is a good program at least by word of mouth, however I caution you unless you already have a job as an LPN, which it sounds as if you don't. You may find it difficult to find a job w/ an ADN most organizations are looking for BSNs at minimum ASN rarely. There is NOT a nursing shortage out there and STL is over saturated with hospitals and nursing schools, GNs are having a very difficult time finding jobs, so please if you have the choice make yourself more marketable while you can.

Anyone here had any trouble finding a job after graduating from Chamberlain?
I only caution you to on two things here. 1 Ensuring this pass rate is current data, 2 If you want to be more marketable do not got to an ADN program. I'm not saying they are not good programs but bottom line is we are NOT in a nursing shortage and organizations can be selective and b/c of Magnet status and other regulations for awards they have to have a certain percentage of BSN / MSN and PhD prepared nurses. Also it usually does not matter where someone goes to school, sloppy practicioners are from everywhere it is work ethic and general professionalism.

SSM Futures - An Overview
does this program require a contract? did you interview w/ a panel or an individual other than hr recruiter? st. anthony's medical center will be offering a nurse residency program in march, the position will be posted by the end of the week with interviews in february. you have to have a bsn and passed boards already. they're only accepting a small number into this pilot program and the process is rigorous. the orientation sounds much like the futures program, with the added bonus that samc will support you with classes and development for the first entire year hence the 'residency'. you will not be placed onto a home unit until around your 6th week of orientation, you can request but you may not get that unit. you will receive approx. 10 weeks of orientation/didactic ind. support. neveje you are so right there is a nursing surplus, organizations are picky and it is tough out there with the value based purchasing and reimbursement changes it is not looking like it will get any easier anytime soon. i agree w/ all the advise you gave; there are a lot of nurses and not too many positions it would behoove you to stand out and state what your going to do for the profession of nursing not what is the organization going to do for you. hope you did not think i was saying the futures program is not good, it's great just wanted to give an idea of some other options that are out there. this is great advise and good luck to everyone out here together we can make a difference in healthcare!

Does St. Anthony's Train CNA's?
You must go to STLCC for CNA training, you can attend out program if you are an employee and we will train you for a nurse assistant posistion (no foley care), and you can practice for 1year and challenge the CNA exam. However the state requires you practice for one year in an acute care setting before you can sit for the challenge. The exam costs - not sure how much.
