  1. I was asked a question on my patho exam about a patient (type 2 diabetic) asking the nurse whether or not he should take his Metformin before or after surgery. I could not find any clear rationale to this question. The answer I chose was before surgery, thinking that since the patient was going for surgery he would be stress and therefore the body would produce a higher glucose level so by giving the patient the Metformin now, it could help keep his sugars in check throughout the surgery as apose if he would get it afterwards he could fall rise of becoming hyperglycemic...am I right or wrong? If you could explain what the best option is for the nurse to tell the patient, this would be very much appreciated.:)
  2. I'm curious on how you view nursing how would you define your nursing metaparadigm?
  3. I got accepted into the RPN bridge to BScN program starting May 2012! :) Do you find the program hard? any tips or advice? Good Luck!
  4. I'm currently a RPN interested in applying to Athabasca Univ. bridging program. I have a few questions concerning the course that I could not find on the website or by calling CNO if anyone else knows that would be great!! 1. Can a RPN get into the LPN to BSN program at Athabasca? 2. Upon completion of the course can I return back to my home province Ontario to write the provincial exam and work as a RN? 3. Is this degree acceptable in Ontario to work as a RN? 4. Other then the 1700 hours needed to work as a practical nurse is there anything else I need to finish before applying to this program? 5. Is this course only 2 years long? So I can work and also get my degree at the same time!!?:) Thank-You in advance!
  5. I have applied to Conestoga and Mohawk College for the bridging program for the fall 2012. I currently have completed the practical nursing program with a 78.7% and just had a email from the administration office that the minimum average to get into the program at Conestoga is 84%!! My question is what is the likelihood I people back out of the program so I can get onto the waiting list then perhaps into the program??!! Thanks!
  6. I applied to Mohawk and Conestoga college for the RPN to BSCN bridging program. I finished the RPN program last September with high 70's and mid 80's and finished with a GPA of 3.5 overall. I haven't heard from them yet or received anything through the mail. I called them last week and they said that will be sending out acceptance letters in a couple of weeks. I also mention if there was anything I can do to improve my chances getting in and they said other than do I meet the admission requirements then no there is nothing I can do. Do you think I will get in? I really want to become a registered nurse and follow in my mom's footsteps as a RN working in emerg. Am I doing everything that I can possibly do at this point? Thanks in advance
  7. Describe how the unique approach to learning at McMaster University will help your learning?
  8. Is there anyone who has recently completed or is currently in the program? I need some advice on what to expect and things to look out for (like study habits and such) I'm applying to Conestoga College RPN to BScN program next fall (Sept 2012). Any suggestions on what books I should get or what classes I should look out for. I want to be prepared for before hand so I'm not all over whelmed on the first day of class. Is there anyway I could do some electives beforehand if so how do I go about it. Do I phone or should I go there in person to ask someone about taking some over the summer. The more I do the less I will have to do during school time so I can focus on more important things. If anyone is currently in this situation I would love to hear your feedback! Thank- You:D
  9. Not the answer I was expecting but nevertheless I guess I should just take it day-by-day and see for myself. You mention before about their being alot of group work is this the same with essays? I've heard from other BScN students that their was alot of essays and you were pretty well assigned one everyday for the most part:mad:. Are you taking the program at doon campus in Kitchener?
  10. Hello my name is Darren. I have just finished the RPN course at Conestoga and wish to upgrade next fall (Sept 2012) to become a Registered Nurse. Is there anyone who has taken the rpn-bscn course at conestoga or mohawk in the past? I would very much appreciate the feedback about the course on what to expect or things I should look outout for or do before taking the program, in terms of subjects I should look over which I've done in the RPN program. Thank-You very much!:)
