Harrison Medical Center Residency 2012
Gelato, which unit did you interview for? Are you from b-town? I was also very nervous during the case study questions. With the written part, I kept it to the point and short. I don't know if I should have used all the space they gave me. It is so hard not to over think the interview afterwards. This is going to be a long weekend of waiting

Hi TheChair1, I dressed professionally. I didn't actually see anyone in scrubs. Some people chose to wear some high-high heels with skirts. I thought that was a little distracting, but who knows. I just wore slacks and a sweater. Best of luck with the interview! Which unit are you wanting? Erin

Hey SimplisticRnx, This site will not let me send private messages, but I can receive them. If you send me your personal e-mail address, we can write that way. Also, sorry for the delay. I was busy packing and stuff. I love Oregon and am really going to miss the culture here. I went to school at U of P. How about you? The reimbursement is for flight and rental car. They hook you up with hotel. I think reimbursement is around $750. You just e-mail them your receipts. It take a few weeks to get the check after your interview. I wouldn't do skype. It is so much easier to talk to a group of people in person. Also, they give you a tour and you get to meet other staff members when you are there. I didn't even know Skype was an option. I interviewed on a Friday and was called Monday with an offer. The actual paper offer took longer to get to me in the mail. Everyone I talked to on the phone was great. It is ok to be nervous. Once you start talking to them, you will feel less nervous. They really don't expect you to know everything. Just know how you learn best. I hope this helps. Sorry for the delay. Let me know how it goes! Erin

Hi SimplisticRnx, I am from Portland. What about you? Good luck with your interviews. Phone interviews can be a little scary. You might get some scenario questions. Just remember your basics like ABCs. They know we are new grads. Also, asks lots of questions. I think you have to ask to get to shadow. Even if you don't, they will go over the whole unit with you. Everyone I met there was so friendly. Let me know how it all goes! Erin

Hi TheChair1, My residency starts Feb 20th. A shadowing is not required. I was not told I got the job until a couple of days after the face-to-face interview. You can get a temporary license while you wait for ur official NC one. The temp one take about 6 business days I think. I did not have to bring anything to my interview. They will give you a bunch of paper stuff to take home. I recommend bringing a bag. Best of luck with your interview! Which unit are you interviewing for? I didn't have clinical question with my face to face interview, just with the phone one. Hope that helps :)

New Grad ICU programs in NC
Hi Charles, Sorry, I couldn't reply to your e-mail directly. The site won't allow me to do that. Congrats on the ER interview! When I got called from the recruiter, she asked which two units I wanted to interview for. I told her the ICU and the ER. She told me that the ER was not taking residents at the time, so you are very lucky :) The recruiter picked the specific ICU for me to interview with. I know they have several ICUs at Pitt. Did you apply online for the residency? I think pitt reimburses up to 700 something and that does not include the hotel they set you up with. I was able to do it from Oregon, and I am broke too. Just fill up on the Continental breakfast. Ghetto but free way to eat. My advice is to be yourself. It is more about personality fit at this level because there are many new grads with stellar resumes. Personal clinical stories about leadership and stuff is also helpful to share at the interviews. I'm sure you have great stories from school and your work experience. Did you have a phone interview first with the ER? I am also out of state, so I had a phone interview first. Best of Luck Charles! Sorry I just figured out how to check mail with this site :) I got on the medical icu. Not the step down unit. My private e-mail is [email protected]. I check that one everyday if you want to write. This site won't let me send you a private message b/c I'm not an "active member." I'm really excited too and freaked out. I can't believe you are planning a wedding too! I'm so stressed trying to pack up and fix up my house to rent it out. I hope your friend landed the gig! It took a week to get my letter, but the human resources guy called me that Monday and asked what unit I preferred. I don't know if that means I got an offer from both or if he was just curious if I wanted the ICU more. Would have been really embarrassing if I had said the other unit and didn't get it. I hope we get great preceptors! I want to write more, but I got to go paint a bathroom take care ttyl Erin

Hello nathRN, The manager that called me was very friendly on the phone. I was still very nervous though. Be prepared for clinical scenario questions too. Best of luck! Are you a new grad or out of state? Erin
