BSN RN & Certifications not allowed on my badge: I am outraged!
You are right and that was my DUMB mistake. I left a magnet hospital never realizing what so many nurses were trying to tell me: that eventually the intrinsic benefits far outweigh the money. I learned an important lesson....there are more important things than money....there is recognition of hard work...excellence.....quality improvements..... nursing shared goverance........ENCOURAGEMENT from leadership to strive harder and reach new grounds..... I have learned that Magnet faciliti es WANT TO REMAIN MAGNET facilties as a result there is a profound comittment to their nurses...I see this now! I made a mistake by leaving for a few cents more....

Well the American Nurse Credentialling Center CARES! As a matter of fact...magnet status is reflected in the number of BSN...credentialed nurses! Does anyone here read or subscribe to nursing journals?

Let me make this clear: ...there are many WHO CAN RUN CIRCLES AROUND MANY BSN and MSN grads.....I am not negating this fact! As a result, their accomplishments should also be recognized! As a matter of fact, I think it is unfortunate that many ADNs can not enter certain job fields such as CWOCN and many many many others UNLESS he/she is a BSN. Likewise if the ADN is as passionate about wound nursing perhaps it will motivate him/her to do whatever it takes to obtain her CWOCN. My ENTIRE POINT is whatever hard work you have achieved you should be allowed to display it and YES IT IS A DEAL BREAKER FOR ME! Again...would we be having this discussion if I were a soldier with a uniform proudly displaying my merits, badges, acheivements etc?????? OF course not. As for the BSN who asked that question....that would have been a great opportunity to EDUCATE her (it is kinda scary...lol) We can ALL learn form each other. Just because my conviction and passion is stronger in some areas than yours does not negate my passion.

Not at all.......I am enjoying expressing my views....perhaps I am on the way to establishing a great thesis for my Masters....perhaps I will research this very topic...perhaps I may decide to do a longitudal study.....I never stop learning and just because we do not agree does not mean that we can not share.....lol! This is a learning experience and thank you very much....I appreciate your candor touched with sarcasm...nonethelss I appreciate it and it motivates me even harder.

Kaiser pays $2.00 more per hour for BSN.. organizations are now realizing and many are coming aboard differentiating pay according to credentials degree. I have no prblem with "wiping buns and pushing meds" I began my career as a CNA and and it was a nurse who motivated me to "reach for the sky" Sorry you feel you are just a RN who gives meds and does perineal care.......WE ARE NURSES! WE ARE SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT! The American Nurse Credentialing Center is in the process of establhing guidelines for Magnet status among hospitals......NURSING IS EVOLVING!

There is and has NEVER been a "hard road of employment for me" As a matter of fact my road of employment has been extremely well paved. I have had great opportunites and chosen for many special projects that I earned competed very heavily for. Was I to continue with an oprganization even though I DO NOT believe in their way of doing things?? I have too much integrity and honesty! It would have been awful for me to continue with orientation knowing that I resent their way of nurse recognition. As for employers....my destiny has already been carved out by God......it is up to me to listen to the inner voice (we all have the inner voice) and to know that faith will keep you long before any employer! Let me add....my professors taught us that there will be many in nursing who will try to convince you that you "must stay in a job you dislike for the good of nursing becasue they are afraid to take a chance"......How many of you on this site have remained in a position you did not care for?

It will matter when you obtain your BSN. There is soooooooooo much hard work...research papers...statistics..socialization paper...grant writing....etc...many areas that as an ADN you would have never been exposed to. As I stated earlier it simply motivates me to get my MSN/MBA and start my own business. I will encourage my staff to continue to craft their field and proudly display thier hard work. Thanks to all for motivating me so much!

ANOTHER MORAL OF THIS STORY THAT I SEE AS IMPORTANT IS: Your father was very proud of ALL of his accomplishments no matter how large (J.D) or small (penmanship)...but ALL were equally as important as the next. Who knows the penmanship may have meant more to him that the JD. One may never know what perils it took for him to acheive the penmanship award during his childhood. HE EARNED IT THROUGH HARD WORK! To add... your father was a well liked and viewd as a compassionate man which adds to his accomplishments.....I know that others will regard me as a compassionate person when I cross over....but I also hope that others regard me as one who truly fought for what she beleives in and who continued to advance her personal growth in the nursing profession....Also...why include your credentials in your resume....why not just simply put "nurse"?

One more thing.....you ARE RIGHT...MY EMPLOYER DOES OWN MY NAME BADGE BUT MY EMPLOYER DOES NOT OWN ME! This entire experience has movitvated meto obtain my MSN/MBA and eventually open my own business and set my own standards. When I do, I will encourage the staff I employ to continue to strive for excellence and I WILL NEVER restrict a staff's right to display his/her hard work. I will contiue to motivate...I will ALWAYS stress the importance and implications of "honing your craft"....

I am not conerned how I am judged by floor nurses.....I am concerned with the level of care I give to my patients and how my patients feel about me. I am concerned with my contiued growth and development in nursing. I am concerned with continuing to raise the bar in nursing. NC board now requires education credits in order to renew licensure.THEY HAVE RAISED THE BAR! Why? Becasue NCBON understands that it is only through continued education that nurses can remain updated on today's changes in nursing. My response to catellior was not "contemptous"....it was honest. Duke and UNC-CH recognize the importance of recognizing their nurses' accomplishements and credentails via name badges....THEY ARE BOTH MAGNET HOSPITALS!

Would we say this to sodliers who are serving in Iraq or any soldier? HE/She proudly displays their riflemanship, honors, awards, credentials etc.......We do not question it. Oftentimes their uniforms house many many certiffications awards etc.....(my ex was a Marine)Their rank depends upon thier dedication to excellence, awards, honors etc.....WHy as Nurses we sell ourselves so short????...so so so sad!

Name Badge Credentials
Would you say that to a soldier who has earned various badges of honor?? It shows his committement to his profession...and yes HE/SHE wears it PROUDLY!
