  1. I have recently been offered a restorative nurse postion at the 190 bed facility where I work.. I am seriously thinking of accepting the offer.. the only thing that stumps me is the mention of having to monitor the wounds.. I do not see this as part of restorative nursing.. Are they trying to snow me with an extra job on board ?... None of the former restorative nurses monitored the wounds that I'm aware of.. I would appreceiate any input. Also if anyone has any forms, ideas, care plans, etc.. that you could share, I would appreciate it. Thanks
  2. We were told that before by our D.O.N. and E.D. Some of the other nurses were afraid to send out residents.. I still send resident's to the hospital if I feel they need to be sent. I am the patient advocate.. I am there to care for my residents the very best I know how.. and If I feel they need to be sent to the hospital, out they go.. If I have a critical resident.. and they are full code, they are outa there.. ASAP.. If they want to fire me for it let them go ahead.. The only comment they make to me.. is If you sent so and so out, then we know they needed to go or you wouldn't have sent them.. Amen to that.. CYA.. and take care of your residents to the best of your ability.
  3. So sad, The facility I work at is located several hundred feet away from railroad tracks. Recently (I wasn't on duty that evening, thank God).. A resident from an A.L.F. not far from our Skilled Nursing faciltiy, got out wandering and got hit and killed by that train.. It was very traumatic for the staff where I work that witnessed it and could not get to her in time, and also the owner of the A.L.F. who arrived just after the accident. I feel so bad for the family.. Although we have wander gaurds on our residents that are a risk for wandering.. it is always a fear that someday it will be one of ours that gets hit by a train.
  4. The CNA's that work with me, get report for the previous shift CNA's. However I like to touch base with them also at the start of the shift to go over what is happening with our residents. Our managment does also encourage communication.
