Cal State San Marcos or National University ABSN?
Hi browrs2! I am an alumni of CSUSM's ABSN program (Temecula campus), and I would recommend it. The professors overall are really good, although there are a few who my classmates and I thought were not so great (mainly, they were late for class, disorganized with course content, etc). The program overall was not too bad. There is a lot of busy work, and there is a paper required for every class (the profs explained that it had something to do with university requirements). Clinicals-wise, we were given the disclaimer that we could be placed anywhere from Riverside County to San Diego County. Considering that my cohort's classes were based in Temecula, I moved there while I was in the program. The furthest clinical site for me was in La Jolla. Some of my classmates who lived in SD/Chula Vista did have a tough semester when their clinical site was in Hemet. One con is the organization on the administrative part. For example, for some semesters, we wouldn't find out our clinical sites until the week before the semester started or a week into the semester. That made it tough for some of my classmates who have kids, a job, or other things in their life. Also, sometimes, the administrative people would take weeks to reply to emails...or not reply at all. I can't really speak about how the program at National University is, since I didn't go there and I don't know anyone who goes there. I did have a professor who also taught clinicals at both CSUSM and National University. She told my clinical group that from her experience CSUSM students are different from National Univ students. We asked "how?," and she said that it's because we're more mature and the quality of our care plans/work is better. I don't know if she said that to her other clinical groups or how true that is. I do know that my cohort had a lot of smart, overachieving people. If you have any specific questions, feel free to send me a DM (direct message). Good luck with your decision! :)

Please vote which school would you choose USF MSN CNL vs. University of Cincinnati MSN NP
Hey sweetkimchi! I am currently in the same shoes you are in, except I'm from socal, deciding between UC and Azusa Pacific (Azusa Pacific is local for me), and both programs are for the MSN-FNP. I'm pretty torn between the two for different reasons. Which school did you end up going with?

Advice for NP School Decision
Hi all! I recently received acceptances from Azusa Pacific University (APU) and from University of Cincinnati (UC) MSN-FNP programs for the Fall 2016 start. I am still waiting on a few more schools with their decisions (for Fall 2016 and Fall 2017 starts). My plan is to complete the MSN-FNP program as a part-time student so that I can continue working full-time (at least for as long as I can). I work a 3 x 12 hour shift schedule. My commute to APU is about 30 mins each way. My commute to work is about 1 hour each way. A little about each program... APU's program is an onsite brick and mortar program. UC's program would be online. As far as my study style goes, I don't mind studying from home, or just going to class and then going home to study. Cost-wise, both programs would cost me about the same. UC's program might be a little more if I would need to fly out to Ohio for skills days and such. UC's program is highly ranked (based on US News Ranking). Some questions/concerns of mine... 1) Which program would you recommend and why? 2) I've read threads about how difficult it can be to find a preceptor. How is UC's reputation in California? How difficult is it to find a preceptor in California, considering that UC is in Ohio? Does anyone know of any sites or preceptors in California who have taken UC students previously? 3) For UC's program, does anyone know how many times, if any, I would need to fly out to Ohio? 4) For current students/alumni for either programs, how was your experience? Was the workload manageable with working? How helpful were professors? Would you recommend the program? I know some of these questions may have been answered in previous threads, but I am hoping for some recent insight. Thanks in advanced for your help! :)

APU ELM Fall 2016
Hi all! I just had my interview yesterday for the MSN-FNP program with a professor, and she extended an acceptance to me on the spot. She told me to expect the official letter to come in the mail in the next few days, and she told me to reserve Aug 23-24 for orientation. I applied to the main campus for the Fall 2016 start. Hoping to meet others who are accepted to the main campus! :]

CSUSM ABSN Summer 2013 Temecula campus
Hi alwaysxsmile03, I'm from the cohort before you (Summer 2013 Temecula), and I'm from LA county too! It took me about 1-2 weeks after submitting my deposit to hold my seat to hear back from the school about a preliminary background check. The school will tell you everything you'll need to know (ie. financial aid, ID pictures, immunization requirements, uniforms, etc) during your orientation. You'll get more information on class registration either a few weeks before class starts (like my cohort) or during orientation. If you want to start gathering as much information early on (esp. for financial aid stuff), I suggest visiting the campus during one of their open house dates. Housing prices are pretty cheap in Temecula, if you're planning to get a roommate or two! There are tons of apts near the school, all around $1,300 (starting) for a 2 bedroom or $1,500 for a 3 bedroom. The price for renting a house could be expensive or could be cheap...it just depends, but it tends to be more difficult to get a house unless you're willing to wait until you're closer to the start of your school date. If you need housing suggestions or anything, feel free to send me a PM or post on the thread! :]
