    Seton RN residency July 2016

Hey guys, glad everyone is so excited! I have loved working at SMCA and went through their critical care residency so I thought i'd chime in. All nurses wear Navy. No brand restrictions, no embroidery needed. My favorites are the grey's anatomy ones which makes me cringe to say it but they are super comfortable. The residency is amazing and you will feel so prepared when it is time to be on your own. I was choosing between two options out of nursing school and decided that I needed the residency and it was one of the best decisions i've made. Also, their residency program earned national accreditation last year so it will always be a feather in your cap to have that on your resume. Good luck, enjoy yourselves!

I don't remember exactly, except it was off 360. Sorry, that wasn't extremely helpful haha. This week?! Finally!! At this point I am just ready to know either way. Good luck everyone!! Who is for sure accepting if they get an offer?

    Tx State Fall 2013

I feel like they must have gotten a larger number of applicants than in past years. When I went to have my fingerprints done for the background check the lady working there said that everyone who had been in for fingerprints recently had been trying for Texas State. I was really hoping for some info before spring break, but I guess we all just have to sweat it out a bit longer!

Sounds like you have a solid application thats for sure! a 93 on the TEAS-V, that is the highest I've heard of! I wish I would have stuck with my original Microbiology major in undergrad, but I switched to Psychology and we only needed Chem 1. Oh well! I just wish I knew how much they looked at each aspect of the application. I only have an average GPA, I think around a 3.3. I scored well on the TEAS (not quite as high as you, Sarah!) and feel really strongly about my writing capabilities, so it really just depends on which parts receive the most consideration. I am really hoping to get in this cycle because then I would have a year of working experience under my belt before we need to move out of Austin for my fiance's post-doc (who knows where that will be!)

    Tx State Fall 2013

All my eggs are in the Texas State basket as well, at least this go 'round. I would have liked to apply to UTHSCSA as well, but would need Chem 2 so I decided to try for St. David's first. Plus my Fiance is at UT in the Behavioral Neuroscience PhD program for 2.5 more years, so I'd rather stay more local than have to drive to San Antonio. I'm really hoping the first time is a charm, but I am trying to be realistic that many people have to apply to multiple places, multiple times before getting an acceptance. So congrats Sarah on UTHSCSA! Must be quite a relief having a back-up school! Would you mind my asking your stats? Just interested in knowing what got you in to such a great program! Of course if you would rather not share that is totally fine :) Glad to know some other hopefuls....

    Tx State Fall 2013

500 applicants would be quite a large jump from last year's pool! I know they generally accept 100, so I guess a 20% chance is better than some places. The wait is definitely challenging. Its such a powerless feeling! My GPA is not as high as I would like it either, but still higher than their average and I was really happy with my TEAS-V score so I'm hoping they put a little more stock in that than the GPA. I would think if they had a points system, they would mention that somewhere on the website?? I suppose there is no use worrying about it! I think your CNA experience will definitely help you, I wish I had something like that going for me but unfortunately I'm in corporate sales. haha! Good luck to you, hope we both get good news in March!

    Tx State Fall 2013

Hi! I'm in the same boat. I applied for admission for 2013 but I haven't heard if they do a point system for ranking applicants or not. All I know is i'm impatiently waiting to hear something! I know they sent out letters on March 9th of last year, but the website says all applicants will be informed of their status BY March. Crossing my fingers that means the letters will be a bit earlier this year! How do you feel about your chances? I haven't seen many posts on TX State either, I know its newer, but I guess I expected more chatter from the boards!

    SON personal essay, topic advice

I'm not sure why this topic was closed on me, as I am still looking for opinions, did I violate something?
  12. Hi everyone, i've been lurking on the site for ages stocking up on everyone's advice and information, so thanks! haha. I am finally applying to a program this winter and have recently started working on my personal essay. Part of the essay says to explain any class withdrawals or poor grades in your transcript and I wanted to touch on this because I have a few of both in mine from undergrad. I was raped halfway through my college career and it completely wrecked me in many ways, academics not excluded. I included this story in my personal statement essay, not for sympathy, but for understanding. Do you think this is a no-no? So many people say to personalize your essay- I just don't want them to think i'm making excuses or vying for the sympathy vote. The truth is I was a Dean's list student on an academic scholarship before this happened to me and afterwards I was just barely skating by- and I want to make sure they know that now, 5 years later I am back to being the student I was before. What do y'all think? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
