Swedish Residency Sept 2013
I believe I was asked to specify which type of unit, not which campus. If you have a specific campus preference I think you could let them know, but I'm not sure if they can take that into consideration when setting up interviews. It might also narrow your chances. They place residents based on anticipated hiring need, so it is impossible for me to say which units are going to need staff. In our cohort there are residents in L&D, ED, NICU, ICU/IMC, Tele, Med/Surg and one in addiction/recovery. Might be a few others, but those are the majority. We have no peds, no psych, no OR and no PACU as far as I can remember, but that doesn't mean there won't be next time around. There are 40 of us total, but I was told they anticipate hiring up to 60 in January. First Hill/Cherry Hill are close to each other downtown and are the larger campuses. They have the most residents by far in the Sept cohort. There are a handful at Ballard, just one in Issaquah, none in Edmonds. Edmonds is kind of separate entity in some ways, so I'm not sure if residents ever get placed there. Ballard doesn't have an ICU. Issaquah is ~25 min from downtown without traffic; with traffic who knows. As far as questions for the phone interview, I recall there being very basic nursing HR questions: why do you want to be a nurse? what qualities should a nurse have? etc. I found having talking points prepared helpful and practicing with the career counselor at my school.

Swedish Residency Sept 2013
Hey sapi, I just received the contract yesterday after being offered the job a few weeks ago. I'm not sure if this goes for all departments, but I would expect it soon. As far as where to live, Seattle has lots of great neighborhoods, it just depends on what kind of vibe/place you are looking for.

Summer Entry 2013 Accelerated BSN/MSN Johns Hopkins
Hi all, and congrats to those who have been accepted already. I'm in the Accel BSN program class of '13 (summer start), so I was in your shoes exactly one year ago. Just wanted to say that although the first semester is pretty rough, I only know of one person our of ~130 that dropped back to the fall cohort. It's possible that there was more than one, but the vast majority of us made it through. I don't know how these rumors get started... If you have any questions about the program, living, transportation, etc feel free to ask. Also check out the SON blogs (Johns Hopkins Nursing Blogs | Discover the people, places, and possibilities of nursing at Johns Hopkins) and the facebook pages for our cohorts. Most of us would be happy to help/sell you our used books & supplies. UW ABSN 2012
I was accepted, but I'm still undecided as to where I will go. I was accepted to Johns Hopkins, and while I currently live in Seattle I think I might want to go back to the east coast for a while. The deadline to make a deposit is coming up, so hopefully I can make up my mind soon. If anyone will be moving to Seattle and has questions about the city, feel free to ask. Also, does anyone know how many students will be in this year's cohort? I was told 48, but they said they were trying to expand. Congrats to all who were accepted!

Penn accelerated BSN 2012
@amyf/sd340 - I'm still not sure if i will choose UW or JHU, it comes down to the decision of whether i want to move or not (i currently live in seattle). I honestly thought i had a better chance of getting into Penn when compared to UW or JHU. UW really emphasized previous health care experience which I dont have much of, and JHU said they looked more closely at the applicant's entire academic record whereas Penn said they considered the most recent academics. My pre-req gpa was 4.0, but my undergrad gpa ('01 grad) was 3.1. I also thought i wrote stronger essays for Penn. I'm not sure why i had my heart set on Penn, but it was my first choice. I think the programs are very comparable, and from what I have heard from working RN's where you get your degree doesn't amount to a hill of beans in the long run. I'm not really that upset, just curious as to why i would be accepted at some schools and not another. Seattle is an amazing city, but i've lived here for a while and want a change of pace. I have always like Philly so i thought i would go there, but i'm sure Baltimore has a lot to offer as well.

UPenn BSN/MSN 2012
@pikafuego - I was accepted at UW and Hopkins, but rejected at Penn. Penn was probably my first choice, so I'm not really sure what I'm going to do yet. #7 on the waitlist sounds pretty high, I bet your chances are good.

Not accepted and kind of surpised about it. I was accepted at UW and JHU, so at least I have two great schools to choose from.
