Hey Abstract, I think you're the only one like me. My unit is a bit overstaffed thats why they only have one position available.

Hard question to answer because each manager is so different as to what they're looking for. General rule is to be yourself and have lots of confidence. Personality is key because they want to know if you could fit in. I dont think GPA is important but its a small contributing factor. I have a 3.3 gpa and I was the only one that got hired onto the unit. When I asked my CNS/UD about why they hired me and they told me that my personality outshined many of the other applicants. Their reason is that they can teach you the knowledge but they cant teach you personality. They can spot a fake person a mile away so just be yourself. Wishing you the best!

WOw! 120 new grads got accepted onto the new grad program. Only 1 for MICU!

Starting my orientation next week! Seems like MICU is the only unit starting early. I'm the only external applicant it looks like and the other 4 are internal apps. FYI for those whos going to do their physical....occupational health(CHS) is INSIDE the school of medicine! I looked all over for this place. The directions they gave are very confusing. Basically 1) go through the doors of the school of medicine 2) go straight down the hallway and turn right 3) keep going and nursing resource (14-222) will be on your first right (thats where you will do your uniform fittings and new hire paperwork) but for your physical go straight until you see the O elevators. Go up and do your physical. They will take your urine and blood draws. The blood draw will test for missing titers and TB (first time I've heard of a TB screening through blood antigen). The new hire paperwork takes forever because you have to watch a welcome and benefits video and signing a lot of papers. Plan to be there for 2hrs+. Make sure you bring your Social Security card or passport AND your Driver's license. GL and congratulations to those who got hired!! This is a magnet hospital!!! You should be very proud of yourselves.

I think you still have plenty of time. If the manager told you that then I think you should wait. I start in the third week of January so my physical is early. I'm not from LA and I'm still looking for a place right now. Its pretty expensive lol.

I called them to set up an appointment last week. I'm doing my other stuff on that day also like fingerprints etc.

For those who got offers, when are you guys starting? mine is the 3rd week of january.

My UD to me that he'll be sending out employment papers on monday but I haven't gotten anything yet. Maybe they're rethinking about hiring? with the budget meeting etc? i'm scared lol.

For those who got offers, have you started your employment paperwork yet?

Does anyone know what happens after the 3months of preceptorship? Do you get promoted to full-time employment?

I have a BSN, 3.6gpa (nursing), 3.3 cumulative, no cna experience, but lots of tutoring and leadership experiences. I have a strong philosophy of nursing which was stated in my cover letter. I did not spend hours on the internet looking for cookie-cutter questions/answers for my interviews. My recommendation is not to focus on the 1000 of apps but focus on yourself. Confidence is key and always focus on quality of patient care and safety as the basis for all of your answers.

Majesticred: when do you begin? mine is the third week of Jan. Not sure if all of the new grads start the same general orientation.

Did my second interview today for MICU RR. Toured the unit and interviewed with the CNS and UD. They ask pathophys, medication questions and I got stumped on some of them. So I would recommend reviewing your patho and meds for the unit you're applying to if you have a second interview. Not feeling too confident about this interview but I did my best. Best of luck to all. Will find out results tomorrow.

Pinklady: I read it on the previous cohort's discussion post. Not exactly sure about the start date but he said probably in february. We'll find out Tuesday!! ahh so nervous. I think each unit varies because each UD is different. MICU is different and fast because they hire new grads 4 times a year. Each cohort has a 3 month orientation, thus 4 times a year. The UD told me he'll be taking another cohort at the end of january. I'm not sure if the unit has a high turnover rate or what but we'll see.

From what I read from the last cohort, they do job offers right after the second interview but i'm not 100% sure. I'll let you know tuesday! :)
