  1. I'm betting that this particular post will cause a stir. But I'm curious which nursing profession is considered to be the coolest or most exciting or over all glamorous job in the nursing field. Is it Flight Nursing, TCVPO, Cath Lab, ED, etc. Don't ask me why I'm just wondering.
  2. So years ago when I was and ED nurse, now EP and Cath Lab. I had this poor little lady that had not been cared for at all. Her diaper looked like it weighed 10 lbs due to all the urine. As I tore the sides of her depends and opened it up I noticed that she had lots and lots of fleas inside of the depends, in her pubic hair, and underneath her. So I try to start getting more stuff to clean her up I notice a few black spots on my arms. The urine soaked Old lady pubic hair fleas are on my bare forearms.

I am still considered a Cath Lab nurse however I rarely work in the lab and am practically a full time EP nurse. I really do enjoy it so much more than doing caths. The technology, skills, education, and working with so many people from the industry is so much fun.
  4. My wife and I met in our local hospital ED. She was a nurse and I was a tech in nursing school. We were sure to stay very professional when working together. We would never witness med wastes together or anything like that. But she has been the highlight of my life and I owe it all to those that we worked with that pushed us closer together.
  5. I'm a full time cattle farmer and Quarter Horse trainer as well as working three days a week in an EP lab.
  6. In my previous years in the ED, infusion centers, Cath and EP Labs I have started my fare share of INTs in the upper breast as well the Deltoid, Scapula area, Side of neck, all kinds of weird places. Just clean it well and stick, if its a good site you will get blood flash just as if you had an INT in a Forearm with a tourniquet.
  7. Just sup dude? Like the No Shave November, I like it. Or compliment her side burns.
  8. I had to pay my dues and work in an ED for several years that did involve cleaning and the such often. But now as a procedures nurse in a Cath/EP Lab and Interventional Radiology I Love it. I work with technology, take care of patients, learn to do so much, and have fun. Don't file all nurses as butt wipers and med pushers.
  9. I can't get over how we as nurses look so easily offended when as a profession we deal with so much worse when it comes to verbal abuse, bullying, and hard work. I have heard so much worse than a "Doctor's Stethoscope" and had to shrug it off because it is my job to take care of people.
  10. Once again The View has tried damage control from the onslaught of enraged Nurses and Nursing Students related to the Stetho-gate debackle of 2015. I heard today that they invited a group of nurses on the show in order to show their love and appreciation for our choosen profession. But now I wonder if anyone will say anything about the fact that there was not a single male nurse on the show? I doubt that this will change anything, or add more wood to the fire. But It does seem in bad taste. Even though it is a female dominated profession and female cast with female audience, I'm sure they have had male guests before.
  11. Does anyone else feel the same way as I do? Of course it was bad judgement on the View, but I think a lot of the back lash has actually made some of us nurses look bad and easily offended.
  12. Hey I agree
  13. We truly are one of the most tolerant profession in the world. It just seems like we have not been acting like it.
  14. I"m sure that I will recieve a lot of negative comments from so many nurses. But I'm tired of this Stethoscope debackle. The View hosts are both ignorant and very opinionated, but one comment does not mean that they should be cancelled. I have been hit and cursed and spat on but I continue to do my job everyday. I still cant get over how many people are so upset and offended over her ignorant comment, when all of us have dealt with so much worse in the past. As a current Cath/EP Lab nurse and previous ED nurse, I have dealt with so much worse from entitled brats to drunk ladies. I've heard it and seen it all. I have never seen a single episode of The View but I can say that I will not stand for the push to cancel them. We can not be that easily offended to cancel a television show over a stupid comment then go to work and have a drunk man throw a punch at me or have a little lady call me sexy. I'm over the stethoscope.
  15. As a note you will see "seizure like" activity when a patient looses consciousness. So many times I've seen family and Staff freak out when a patient has passed out from having blood drawn or a student sees blood or smells something terrible.
  16. It is very possible that what you noticed was not a seizure but cardiac arrest itself. I've seen it many times when a patient suffers cardiac arrest that they do shake, eyes role back, breathing becomes slow or stops all together. Sometimes with V-Tach, the tach can break on its own and the patient regains consciousness. We see this a good bit when we are doing EP studies to determine if a patient needs a difibrillator. We will put the patient into a lethal arrthymnia and when they lose concsiousness we shock them out of it. Of course though its only a thought.
  17. That has been the issue. Most staff has made the rounds through the EP Lab and we lost our coordinator. So now we have only three core people that work in the EP Lab and no support system. Im hoping soon with some people coming off of cath orientation that we will be able to bring them into the EP Lab in order to bring some team work back into the mindset.
  18. Our unit, which started out as purely cath made the addition of EP last year. There have been a few core people that work mostly EP but also cover call for cath and do cath cases when needed. The issue has been the lack of support from a large majority of the staff towards EP. Lack of helping set up rooms, clean, assist with case, relieve for lunches, etc. It has really become difficult since the main unit leaders are and have been cath supporters. My question is, Have any of you all had to deal with these same things? If so, How can I make the Cath/EP Lab whole again?
  19. Diastolic BP of 220. The systolic could not be heard because it was greater than 300 and above all meters.
  20. So how it goes is actually what is attched to these badges. I understand that not all nurses put pins and lapels on there badges but most do and the heavy pin facing out, wants to flip around because its heavier and at an angle on your shirt. Similar to putting peanut butter on bread and it always lands down. Now the next thing people will say is well I dont have a pin on my badge. The face side is still heavier due to ink compared to the reverse side and at an angle on your shirt so the heavy side always falls down. The thing to do is make the back heavier.

Really hoping to see if Dieticians or Diet oriented nurses have had any indepth converstaions regarding GMOs and safety.
  24. I've asked myself multiple times if I should go. I've gone to two funerals. Once for a patient that I took care of multiple times, and once performed CPR on him in an elevator with his mother at his side. When he passed a few years after that code his mother asked me to be a paul bearer for his funeral. The entire family was very nice and so happy with the care that they had received. The second time I went for a patient becasue his wife asked me too. While there I was told, by his children, that I let him die. Never going back to another one.

Regarding more and more studies being conducted by both the U.S. and Multiple E.U. countries showing that GMO's are actually safe for both human and animal consumption. Has anyone dealt with patients that refuse GMO foods in hospital yet receive medications made in a lab?
