  1. I'm on Med/Surg
  2. I did not have experience prior to hire. It took about a month to get a unit interview after getting the eligibility letter. I was offered the job a month later & it took another 2 months b4 I actually started working. It's a long process. In addition to calling also send your resume & eligibility letter. Put your units of preference on the letter. Good luck & hope you get something soon.
  3. yep :-) 4days/week (two 12-hrs & 2-8hrs).
  4. Not sure for Olive View. At LAC/USC, on the first day, I went to HR to sign paperwork & was given an orientation schedule. Now that I'm on the floor, I follow my preceptor's work schedule.
  5. What unit are u going to? Yes, usually there's about 2 weeks of classes before going to the floor.
  6. Hi & Congrats. I'm working now on a M/S floor @ LAC/USC. You'll interview w/ at least 2 managers. My interviewers were nice and the questions are similar to the civil interview. Questions can vary but I would know the mission/values of the hospital, be relaxed, maintain occasional eye contact....I think you'll be fine. Good Luck!
  7. Hi everyone! I actually started working on Sept 17th (my original start date was Sept 4 but it got delayed). So I finished my second week of orientation. It's mainly didactic but we also go on the floor to orient. I already met my preceptor and have started working with her. Will work again this weekend and start doing patient care. I really like it so far. Congrats to all who got hired to county.
  8. I'm a new grad (June 2011). No previous RN experience. Submitted initial application November 2011. The process is long and the wait is excruciating but in the end, so worth it! Don't lose hope if you just started.
  9. So happy you got the call!!! Congrats & see you soon
  10. Just a quick update....I went for my physical & saw nurse recruitment. They want me to start on Sept 4th ?
  11. Congrats on getting the interview! I think the relief position is part of RNI/II. You'll be covering other nurses during their mandatory breaks (30 min lunch) or sick days. Where you'll be at may depend on the areas of need. You can ask about the unit & hours during interview. Good luck.
  12. You're only eligible for 6 months. They will put the expiration date on the letter. After that you have to reapply & go through the process all over (including the civil exam). The RN I elibility means you can interview for any entry level job (med surg, ER, ICU, relief nurse etc). If you have more experience, you can apply for RN II or other positions but they each have their own process.
  13. No problem. Good luck & keep us posted
  14. The HR for Dept of Health Services County of Los Angeles - Department of Health Services
  15. @lucky007: You can call the main HR to check on your status. That's how I found out I passed before getting the letter. But you do need the letter to interview for specific units.
  16. Wow just got the call from HR. My physical is this Friday:) Slooowly moving along.
  17. Yep that's normal. It's been a month since I did live scan. Still waiting to go for the physical. I think our background cleared but they have to get clearance to schedule the physical. In talking to other RNs working for County & from old posts on here, it can take a ~2-5 months from hire to start date.
  18. It can take btw 6-8 weeks. Yep, its a looong wait but it'll happen. The letter states you are eligible for ~6 months. I would call after 4wks to see if they have any results. Call the main HR for the Dept of Health Services (the same website where you submit application). Best of luck!
  19. Jeez, at this rate, you're going to be working soon! Shoot, maybe you can even be my preceptor on the unit....lol. Your live scan cleared so fast. I'm still waiting for the physical. When I called HR, the lady only said as soon as the live scan clears they'll call to schedule.
  20. There are plenty of people on this site who posted that they got hired and already started working for county. I recently got hired & I'm looking forward to working for LA county. Sure it's going to take time but it does pay off at the end.
  21. @lucky007, the questions are not that bad at all. Each recruiter may ask different questions but the focus is on basic nursing knowledge that you got from school. You can also review some interesting cases you've had either from school or your work experience because there might be some situational questions. It's a nerve racking process but try to remain calm & relax, maintain appropriate eye contact, & don't forget to smile :) Don't rush through the questions, if there's one that you cannot answer right away, just pause, and collect your thoughts before answering. Hope that helps. Good luck!
  22. @alexrocco, yes I did get hired at LAC-USC. I'm sure each hospital has its own system. Just stay in contact with them if you have any concerns. Congrats yourself on the hire!! So there are jobs out there for us:) @CoCStudentNurse, Wow, that is so fast! I did not get the call yet. Maybe they are trying to speed things up now. I'll let you know.
  23. @Bri22, Did you interview @ LAC-USC? The waiting time can vary from ~2wks to a month. I would call after 2wks to check on the status. Its a good way for them to know you are interested in the job. Hope you get the job!
  24. @eedo_rn & Bri22. Thanks. After signing the paperwork, I felt so happy. @Bri22...where are you interviewing? Good luck wl it!
  25. @CoCStudentNurse..CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I know how you feel:) You won't sleep tonight from the excitement. We are going to work together becz that's the same position I got!! PM me so we can talk. Today I went to sign paperwork & did the live scan fingerprint. Only a matter of time now.
