Assuming most have heard about the Tampa mom "Army wife" who just killed her teen-aged children for being 'mouthy', its become apparent that she has alcohol and drug problems. I'm curious as to how you guys would describe the moms symptoms/visual description in the video of her being escorted by authorities? Like how would you chart that if you had to describe it? The first word that came to mind for me was ataxia? But I do not specialize in this area and wondered from those who do work in this area. They also mentioned when she had the car accident a couple months ago and seemed 'drug impaired' and that she had 'mush-mouthed' speech. It was stated she left the ER before they could drug screen her. People are harshly judging her but looking at that video alone one can see she is not medically, physically or mentally right!!! There is ALOT wrong there.
  6. Ask for the unit orientation manual- meds u need to know should b in there. Good luck!
  7. Blaming the victim, how nice. The fact remains that Quebec does not have any type of air EMS. How absurd is that? Do you not get that they DROVE her to the local hospital then got back in the ambulance to DRIVE her to Montreal 2.5 hours away? Everyone is clear that she initially refused care but there is much else that ultimately contributed to her demise. http://montreal.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20090318/mtl_helicopter_090318/20090318/?hub=MontrealHome
  8. not sure where you get your information, but here you go: http://montreal.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/ctvnews/20090318/mtl_helicopter_090318/20090318/?hub=montrealhome
  9. Yes, you are right about that. Ski Patrol requires paramedic license. It just seems to me, that if you have an inferior EMS system, (no air EMS) that the ground EMS would be more assertive as a compensation. I see your point, if Ski Patrol told the arriving paramedics they are not needed, they would say ok and leave without seeing her.
  10. That has been painfully clear, we all know people can refuse care, we are all nurses here. What I have a hard time getting across to those who keep reminding me of that-- is did the paramedics do that, explain as you described above? No! They didnt even go assess her for themselves. Just "Oh, dont need us now, okay see ya later." They should have done JUST what you described above.
  11. I have never thought it was a good question to ask, no one really knows until they are in a situation. I *have*had a concussion before in which I kept finding myself in different places not knowing how I got there. In my father's car I ask him how I got there, he told me to stop asking the same questions over and over. Thats when I started to notice my head hurt. No one knew I had fallen, all we knew is that I missed the bus for some reason. So what Im saying here, dont trust the brain-injury's word on it that they are 'fine'.

  13. I read 4 hours from time of hit to arrival to first (local) hospital, where she got her CT. Interesting you say there is not air EMS system in Montreal because I mentioned reading that in the Neuro ICU forum and someone said they DO have it and that there was a huge trauma/neuro unit there and she would have received the same care as here, in a Level 1. They, as many of us, suspect she had herniated prior to arrival, otherwise would have been treated...
  14. I know ppl suspected an aneurysm initially but I believe her autopsy stated that the cause of death was blunt trauma to the head and epidural bleed. No mention of an aneurysm? And no, Im not making it a big deal because she is a star per say- I know for the MEDIA yes, but me, no, it could be any Joe blow and I would still be shocked thinking that could happen to me or one of my family... Its the fact that she felt FINE, a minor tumble on the bunny slope to like dead with in 4hours. THAT, my friend, is scary... I bet lots of ppl are getting CT scans today....
