UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013
I know it is harder said than done, but for those of you still waiting, don't worry or give up hope just yet. I know many students who heard much later down the road about getting in, even a couple of people who got rejection letters originally got phone calls asking if they would like to attend. The madness is never fun, but well worth the wait..... Or atleast it is worth the wait until they started testing us

UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013
Congratulations to those of you accepted. Enjoy your euphoria for a little while, you have earned it! But be prepared come January to stay BUSY! First semester is a BOOGER.... Trust me I am doing it right now.... Have y'all created a FB page yet? If not, I highly recommend doing it right away. There will be lots of people to help you that way. Many upper classmen will be selling textbooks for cheap, and will have great tidbits of information to help guide y'all on this super stressful adventure. Congratulations again! Look forward to seeing y'all around the campus grounds :)

UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013
Hey there Spring applicants. Evals come for some but not all. Don't even stress about the yellow triangle... It MEANS NOTHING! Some people, such as myself, had green circles from the start even even though they had not finished all the pre-reqs. This is a new system that they are still getting a hang of. No stressing. I know easier said than done, but all your doing is increasing your cortisol levels which can increase fat storage And your gonna get enough cortisol once your in nursing school, I should know! As for individuals with high GPA's being turned down vs others..... I know that is seems impossible that anyone with a 4.0 could be turned down.... but each persons story is different and we don't know anyone on heres TRUE story. The internet is the EASIEST place to put falsified "truths". Maybe that person had a 4.0 GPA, and you have a 3.5 GPA..... They may have only taken 2-3 classes a semester till they were done, with taking summers off. You, on the other hand, worked hard to complete EVERYTHING as quickly as possible, working though your summer taking 12-18 hrs a semester. They consider EVERYTHING when looking at us as individuals. They want people who can handle a heavy workload.... Trust me, the work load is ASTOUNDING.... and WILL induce nervous breakdowns, crying sessions, etc. Good Luck to each of you :-) UTHSC is an awesome, albeit hard school so just relax, your time for stressing out is coming

UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013
desjt - Yes I did have one C from MANY years ago, like 04 and it was in Comp 1. I also originally failed College Algebra and got a D in psych... I was more concerned with my social life then. I retook all but that C. So if you have a retake, they do not calculate that into your GPA... just your most recent grade (or better, I think). I agree with Heavykevy - Start getting things like vaccines and CPR out of the way. You cannot do anything for your background check or drug screen yet. If you have everything else complete and you are accepted, it is less to accomplish over winter break.

UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013
In answer to your question desjt3 - I believe that with UT Health I had a green circle the whole time. And I was still completing my final 4 pre-reqs. Some had the triangles that got accepted, others had circles. It did not play a part with admittance for any of us. That being said, I know that we were the first to be applicants with the new system. So I am unsure if they are still working out any kinks. I know that with the previous applicants and old system, when a person experienced a hold change, holds added, then that was a sign that the person had been admitted even before the green check or email, etc. With the new system, there was not any rhyme or reason to those admitted. The system was down for several weeks.... When it finally came back up, there were some with hold some without. I thought I was out of the game because I did not have any changes on my account. Well..... I was the first to notice I received a green check. Some who had changes were accepted, some who didn't also got accepted (me). And FYI - My Stats are as follows... I believe these numbers are correct... I don't have them on hand right now. Overall GPA - 3.69 Science GPA - 4.0 HESI Overal - 87.86% AP - 80% (lowest score) CT - 870 Good Luck to each of y'all. Trust me when I say.... RELAX! I know that is easier said than done, but stressing yourself out does you no good. Don't check your account constantly... when they tell you a date that they will have notifications by, they are really good about being true to that. We were told April 15th.... My check was on Friday, April 13. I got my email on Monday I believe, the 16th.

UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013
Hello Spring Applicants. I know that y'all are all stressing right now, I was in your shoes just this past spring. I feel your pain, but I can tell you that it was worth it for me. If you go the the Fall 2012 group, I was an ACTIVE poster, always freaking out wondering what the school was looking for. I can honestly say I still don't know why they chose me over others, but I am happy that I made first cut and that I am attending my dream school. If there are any questions, please feel free to ask, and I will attempt to check in and answer what I can. I want to help.... but I cannot answer what, if anything, will increase your odds. I just want to wish each of you good luck. This chaos is just the beginning of the craziness you will experience in nursing school. I honestly think that they torture the applicants so that they know what TRUE stress feels like. We are 2 weeks in and tests are looming already.... and they won't stop till Dec when the semester ends. I now think that the application stress was the easiest. FYI - That is a transcript evaluation. Some of you will get them and some of you won't. But that does not play into if you get an acceptance email/letter. They try to get them out to all, so that you know for sure which courses they are using and which ones aren't going towards your pre-reqs.... it is also so you can know what classes you have to have completed by the start date with atleast a C. I know members of my class who never got an eval, so don't fret if you never get one.

UTHSC-Houston Fall 2012 Applicants
Hey everyone!! Sorry I have been MIA for a bit. Things have been crazy this summer Congratulations to those who have been accepted off of the wait list!! :yelclap: That is awesome news and I look forward to getting to know each of you over the next year and half. For those of you still not on the FB account, I HIGHLY encourage you to join. The group will be used for more than just current information to start the program. Over the coming time there will be study guides, etc posted and shared, Questions asked and answered, etc. I am a member of the Spring 2013 graduating classes group and I see the amount of activity they have there. It is SUBSTANTIAL!!! All Holds need to be removed to register... EXCEPT for your Identity Management hold. That one will not prevent you from being able to select and enroll into your classes. Anything on your To-Do list will not prevent you from enrolling in classes, just your holds. Today was the first day of registration and I have already registered. The process is super easy. FYI - book lists are still not available, but should be ready for us before the end of the month. If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to PM me :) I will help any way that I can, but I cannot say it enough that the FB page is REALLY helpful. It is a great support system for all of us.

Cheating pre-nursing students
cheaters, no matter what profession they are going into, eventually have "karma" catch up with them!!! i have experienced my fair share of cheaters in my nursing pre-req classes over the last 2 years. it drives me crazy! when the "slackers" try to get me to help them, i tell them no.... i also let them know that "they are not worth me losing my spot at ut health science center this fall". i have been looked at like i am the biggest bia (& have also gotten nasty responses back ), but i don't work my butt off to make someone else life easier (so to speak) !!! i am a mother of a 2 year old, a wife, homekeeper, etc who goes to school full time and i can still manage to make a's...... most of the cheaters are lazy "kids" who don't get it..... personally i think those individuals shouldn't even be able to make it into any nursing programs, because they have taken a spot for someone who has earned their grades, and deserves to be there. but for those that do make it into the program they will eventually fail out, because nursing school, adn or bsn, is far from easy.... and cheating???? they are pretty much screwed!!! so remember the life lesson here.... karma is a bit**!!!! just keep up your hard work, i promise it will pay off :thankya:

If you can, start doing some of the things that are going to be required. Go ahead and get your CPR, & all your immunizations lined out. Also try calling the school and seeing if you can submit for a drug screen or background check, just in case..... Doesn't hurt to be as prepared as possible! Just in case y'all don't get told your in until the last min. People will be called all the way up until the first day of classes (or so I've been told)Congrats!!! Atleast y'all are no longer in limbo. I will keep my fingers crossed for y'all :)

UTMB Spring 2013
Prayerful - First off Thanks! Just explain... They are really understanding about bad semesters, just explain in your personal statement whatever happened, be it you majored in Beer 101, family problems, financial issues, life in general. They know sh** happens. My first semester of college was BAD (as in F, D, C, W) I even told them that I had NO drive then, that the grades were MY fault. And then I didn't go back to school for 6+ years.... Believe me when I say they understand. Just take responsibility for your actions. Good Luck! Just PM if you have questions, etc.

UTMB Spring 2013
Hi there. I got into UTMB for Fall 2012. I am turning down my seat there to attend UTHSC this Fall, but I can possibly help y'all out. UTMB puts a LOT of emphasis on the personal statement. It is suppose to be 700 words - tops, and it is your chance to explain why you want to be a nurse, and explain any lapses in education/bad grades/ etc. I can honestly say PUT YOUR HEART INTO THIS STATEMENT!!! Many a student have been called in for an interview because of their statements alone, not to mention others have been called in because their statement created a discrepancy in thier transcripts. This step is VERY IMPORTANT to them. Applicants have been known to not get interviews because they didn't put ANY effort into their statements. I really cannot emphasis enough how important this step is..... The TEAS - STUDY, STUDY, STUDY! That test is SOOOO much harder than the HESI. It combines just about every kind of science you learned in high school. There is earth science, AP, Chem, etc. If you learned it in High School, it is a science you need to know. There are even some Physics (but not much at all). But do not forget to study the other areas as well. If you can purchase the practice tests, DO IT!! They help!! And an FYI - I made a 76. And they told me that was good! I was unhappy with that grade, but apparently they REALLY liked it! Go figure Your GPA - They calculate ALL your classes into your GPA. Not just your pre-reqs and they do not look at individual GPA's like your sciences. It is ONE number to them. If you have a previous degree then they look at that too... They had my GPA calculated around 3.3 (I had a bad semester when I was 19 - and I explained that in my statement) NursingCas - Get your stuff in early! They usually take up to 4 weeks or more to get all your documents input before they will send everything to UTMB. And they will not send your application over until it is complete (you can still be taking pre-reqs). I did not have to use the program, but I was told that when I went for my interview (during Spring Break - March) that they were still getting documents from the system. Try not to wait till the last minute to apply. START EARLY! Interview - MAKE AN INPRESSION BUT BE PROPER!!!!! DRESS PROFESSIONAL!!! I bought a pencil skirt and jacket to wear. I was able to laugh with my interviewer and she was impressed with my knowledge... I had an opportunity to show her that Nursing is not something new to me..... Please look at the posts from Fall 2012 applicants. I posted LOTS of information, as I found it out, throughout the semester. Try to go to an information seminar and be friendly with all the staff that are giving you the info. I can say that having them remember you, in a good way, would be benefitial. If anybody has any other questions, please feel free to PM me. I will be more than willing to answer and help whenever I can. GOOD LUCK!!!

UTHSC-Houston Fall 2012 Applicants
You should only get the one email telling you that you were accepted into the program. I got mine before I actually accepted. As for what helped me decide why UTHSC was the right choice for me, well there are many reasons but they are my reasons. I hope that makes sense.... The best advice I can give is for you to do a little research, if you haven't already, and determine what your future goals are. I know that I want to be a CRNA, and they offer one of the two programs in Houston area. I know that the school is closer to me, a lot closer than UTMB. I am unsure as to what other programs you are comparing to, but I can tell you that there are lots of individuals out there more than willing to answer any questions you might have. Put a lot of thought into your choice, but also make sure you WANT that school. My #1 choice was UTHSC.... But I didn't expect to actually get in. UTMB is a wonderful school and I almost chose them, but UTHSC still has my heart. I hope that I was able to help you out some..... Good Luck in your choice!

Did anybody get an email saying " Update to your application - Check now"? My status hasn't changed (I just checked), so I am wondering if it is a program automated email to everyone.......
