has anyone heard back from SM adult icu?

i think my problem with these interviews is that i know enough about how hard the california market is for new grads that i walk in freaked out and it shows. i've been looking up and down the state for 1.5 years and it is very hard to beam confidence in the interviews

MrNurse2011 congrats! how do they do 2nd interviews if you don't live in LA? if you haven't heard back already about a 2nd interview should you assume rejection?

krx100 did you interview in april also? did you get that position and have to defer til 2012? what do you think helped you? any tough clinical questions?

majesticred congrats! where are you moving from? where is wv? did you have any previous icu experience? what do you think you did during the interview that made you stand out?

wow! only 4 hires on med surg. am i the only one who finds these cutbacks depressing? cedars is also cutting and will not have a new grad program this spring. they have decided to have it only once a year. another impossible hurdle for new nurses. it is beyond impossible to get a job in this field right now in cal. i wish i'd invested my time and money somewhere else and am tired of hearing what a bright future i have.

Has anyone been asked clinical questions in an interview they couldn't answer? how did you overcome this? could you overcome this? it's the new grad dilemma. you can't find work and get experience and the longer you are out of school the further removed you are from nursing and all of the knowledge you acquired. I have to work in a non-nursing/healthcare field right now just to pay my bills. I'm not in an environment that's keeping me fresh and updated so I'm forgetting so much. How can I overcome this? I feel like an idiot going into interviews (I've only had 3) where I can't answer clinical questions.

I'm interviewing for a new grad job on the adult critical care unit. Can experienced nurses share some of the most common meds used on this unit? Much appreciated!

I spent $30 on this book. It really was not helpful It didn't provide anything that I'm not already trying. The problems we are having have nothing to do with HOW we are looking for jobs. A great resume/linkedIn profile/etc is not going to help. The problem is much deeper and is a direct reflection of how bad the US economy is right now. I feel that we are going to have to just ride this one out and hope it starts improving....

Hi all, I recently got called in for an interview at one of the top hospitals for a new grad nursing position. I graduated from nursing school in May 2010, have applied to hundreds to places, and still haven't landed a job. So the interview is a big deal. The program starts in Feb/March 2012. There is a catch. I injured my left (non-dominant shoulder), had an MRI which showed a 7mm rotator cuff tear. The surgeon said I need to have surgery. There is no way this can heal on its own. If I don't have surgery now, it will eventually be a full tear with a longer recovery. After 8 months of physical therapy, acupuncture, chiropractor, you name it, I really feel surgery is unavoidable. My surgery is on Nov 16. I will have several months to heal before the new grad program starts. My question is between Nov 16 and Feb/March will I have enough time to heal and take on a nursing job? That will be about 3 months of healing before the program starts. Since it is a new grad program, I'm not sure how much heavy lifting etc will be involved the first few months. Does anyone know that also? Should I just hang this up as another lost opportunity or can I feel hopeful that I can take this challenge on? thanks!

MandaRN94 Wow! This happened back in '94 in CA. Do you know how many years it took for the market to turn around and for hospitals to start hiring new grads again? was is 2 years? 5 years? 7 years?

So many great stories! jessRN6896 you must have had an amazing interview to beat those numbers. It's hard for me to maintain a high degree of enthusiasm when I am so nervous during these interviews...i'm just praying i can make it through and not screw up on med questions. the longer you are out of school the more you forget...

is there anyone from California who has a story to share about how they got their job as a new grad? It definitely seems that certain parts of the country are a lot less impacted. Wish I could up and move for a year but it isn't possible.

I'm one of those who is having a tough time finding a job in this economy. I have a BSN, I live in CA, no prior medical experience but I'm coming from the tech field. I did my preceptorship at Stanford Hospital, have looked for jobs ALL over CA, Nevada, and Arizona. Almost 2 years after graduation, NO job. I'd like to hear from those who have actually gotten RN jobs in Hospitals. Did you have BSN? previous medical experience? as a CNA, respiratory therapist? Did you have a good contact at the hospital that hired you? any unique tactics you used to find your job? how long did it take? Any pearls of wisdom are greatly appreciated by all on this board who are struggling to find that first RN job... Thank you!
