  1. Im getting so excited!! Starting my house hunt in Sydney next week! Good luck with your final semester, you will rock it!! Anyone know anything about annual leave during the program? I'm assuming it's two weeks after the first rotation then two weeks at the end of the program? Also, anyone know anything about how easy it will be to swap shifts to have several days off in a row? My boyf lives in NZ and I'm trying to work out how often we can see each other with trips back and forth across the Tasman! Hopefully he's moving here later in the year though :) Look forward to meeting you all!
  2. Yes contract in the mail which was quite exciting and formal, considering everything is nowadays done online! Ooh that'll be a problem Mopples! You have been planning that trip for a while though, maybe you can attend an earlier session? Mines April 30th! Thanks for that offer you PM'd the other day too, really appreciate that!! Congrats Stackers, look forward to meeting you too :) Now the hard thing..deciding on preferences for first rotation! Even though its for only 6 months and aren't guarenteed, I would like to start out somewhere I enjoy! Leaning towards cardiovascular and cancer services based on the list I got in an email today.
  3. Hey Mopples, Mine came in the post today and I know one other grad who also got theirs. Start date is officially May 13th!! The pack inclues - welcome letter, salary, commencement date, code of conduct, bank, tax & super details, options for salary sacrafice etc..nothing about wards which I found interesting? Perhaps that comes later seeing as I'm not in the first intake.. Anyway, I'm sure yours is on it's way. I finished my degree on Friday! Very good feeling - hang in there! One semester to go. I've decided I'm going travelling Jan - March, then will move to Sydney in April. :)
  4. Thanks so much for all the info Mopples!! Really appreciate it! Will keep you updated with what I'm doing :) Tyc1115, I phoned AHPRA about 2 weeks ago and they said it's fine to work as an AIN, provided you remain within an AIN scope of practice and your employer has no issues. This is because there's no regulatory body controlling AINs. Hope this helps !
  5. Thanks for that Mopples, I'm gonna start calling a few agencies this week..I've worked agency up here on the Coast but they don't want to keep me on as an AIN once I'm registered and they won't take me as an RN because I have no experience yet! Do you own a car mopples? I don't think I wanna keep mine, I'd rather find somewhere to live close to a train line..only thing I'm worried about is grocery shopping? Would you feel safe leaving RPA after a PM shift and heading to the train/bus?? Whenever I've visited Sydney I've always found the public transport great and I figure if I'm living Inner West, the majority of places I'm going to need to get to will be close by..
  6. Hi Amy! I called last week and they said contracts are being written by HR right now and will be sent within 2-3 weeks. You can call them up and ask which intake you are down for, or just wait and see I guess :) 99% sure I'm May, so now I'm trying to decide what to do! Move to Sydney early and find work (AIN perhaps..can you recommend any reputable nursing agencies? Or maybe I'll go back to Woolies/Maccas for a few months!) or go travelling! Big decision! Let me know what you end up getting :) I really hope to be starting in CCU or cardiology!
  7. A friend of mine got a call from Wagga Wagga and was asked if she was still interested, she turned it down however as she has a position in WA. I was told if unsuccessful in original matching, keep calling hospitals; people drop out for all kinds of reasons between now and apparently around 6 months into the year. Good luck with it!
  8. Will definately start checking out the share situation once I get my official start date..I'm kind of looking forward to a break if I get May, am planning a trip to North America in case that's what happens!
  9. Hi Mopples - congratulations! I saw in other threads you missed out on your first preference, great to hear you've been offered a position :) I spoke to RPA this afternoon and they said Ive been allocated to the May intake but it's not final yet...I think I'd prefer February just to get everything going but it doesn't really bother me either way :) I've heard it's terribly hard to break into the Sydney rental market..as in to get a lease I'd be competing with so many other people!? I'd like to live Inner West if I can, was looking at Stanmore, Marrickville, Newtown etc..reckon there's much chance of me finding other nurses/junior doctors to share with?? Once again, congrats! Thanks for your help. :)
  10. Hi all, Wanting to get into contact with other 2013 grads starting at RPA (or the other Sydney Local Health District hospitals!) I'm moving down from the Gold Coast for this position - can't wait to get my start date!!! Congratulations to all of those who have been successful in gaining a position, NSW or interstate :)
  11. Pardon my ignorance, but what is CVS? So I complete the mandatory training after having my degree assessed, then sit NCLFX-RN, then once all of those documents are filed, I receive registration? Thanks for your time frame notice, that doesn't really bother me as I'd prefer to save some more money before heading over :) I definately doubt the theory and practical in Obstetrics and the practical in Paeds. How would one overcome this? I saw a thread about another applicant completing some courses at Deakin University back here in Aus to satisfy requirements..would this just be a Graduate Cert/Diploma/Masters of Nursing in that field? If I completed a Masters of Nursing in the States, could this perhaps satisfy the Obs/Paeds? (Yes, I understand this is an expensive endeavour!) Thanks for your swift response.
  12. Hi everybody, I'm a Registered Nurse in Australia who holds a Bachelor of Nursing from QUT and 12 months of experience. I've been trawling this forum and several others, as well as visiting professional sites, to understand the pathway of acquiring registration and a position to work in the State of New York, via the E3 visa. As far as I understand, the process is as follows: -Have my degree considered and approved by CGFNS -Apply to sit NCLFX-RN through Pearson VUE once my degree has been approved -Complete mandatory NY State Child Abuse and Infection Control training -I believe I am now registered in NY State? Correct? -Head to US on VWP to find a position that satisfies E3 requirements -Have employer file for LCA, return to Australia to apply for E3 visa -Move to US to start employment Have I got the steps in correct order? A couple of questions; How does one complete the mandatory training without having a visa? I've seen on the list of education providers from the NY BON website that this training can be completed online? Would I need a US address to complete this or could I complete it in Australia, just as I can sit NCLFX-RN in Australia? Can anyone recommend any job search websites to start my hunt from once I arrive in the US? How difficult is it to actually attain a position that REQUIRES a BSN or equivalent, and not just PREFERRED? (This is needed to satisify E3, as this visa is a "specialty" and to my understanding, many RN's practice in the US only having completed an Associates Degree and not a BSN? Thanks for your advice.
  13. Hi, I'm also an RN from Aus with a BN, I'm interested to find out how you've gone, and if you've successfully gotten a job via E3, where you recommend hunting for RN positions that satisfy E3 criteria (Bachelors degree NOT associate!) Thanks, hope it worked out for you :)
