  1. I drove from NY to San Diego. Loved the trip. I took 4 days and saw sites on the way. I had my Dad travel with me to help with the driving. I paid his meals and flight home. Fun trip. I live near La Jolla in Pacfic Beach area. I actually don't have to drive anywhere except work or if I want to go into the city. People use bikes to get everywhere. I don't know of companies that provide rental cars but I'm sure some do. Another travel nurse paid to have her car sent on a truck. It was pretty expensive though. If you get a friend to travel with you and help with the driving it's worth it.

This is really awful! Can you say which company this is?

I found my own housing and am in La Jolla. I'm blocks from the beach and ride a bike everywhere. It's amazing here. Pay is much lower because it's such a prime location. I don't care though I didn't sign up for the money I signed up to travel :)My other friends came here last year and stayed a year. They suggested I stay out of living in the city and stay closer to beach. The locals are so friendly. If you go on Craigslist lots of people always looking for a roommate. I found a roommate and it's working out great and much cheaper. I start my orientation tomorrow. The trip cross country was amazing. I traveled from NY. Lots to see!

I have just taken a second assignment in San Diego. I start first week of July. Has anyone else previously worked there or plans for the future. Thanks.
  5. I just sent you a PM hopefully it worked :)
  6. Thanks. I'm hoping I can find someone who travels with TNAA and find a good recruiter :) They have a lot of jobs in San Diego listed. I plan on staying with CC because it has been good!
  7. Hi, I'm on my first assignment and currently with CC. My recruiter is pretty good even though she can be slow to getting back to me. I've also been told by other travelers my pay is pretty low. My housing is great and I love my floor. All in all its been a very good 1st experince. I have been told I should sign with another company. I was looking at Travel Nurses Across America and their reviews are pretty good. I'm currently in Tampa but would like my next assignment in San Diego. Anyone travel with this company? I'm not leaving CC just looking to expand my opportunities.
  8. Hi I just got into Florida. I'll try and private message you. I'm from NY and my name is Laura in case it doesn't let me private message you. Laura
  9. Me too. I have to report to HR on Monday. Where is your housing? I'm at Citrus Falls through CC travel. My very first contract. Where was your first assignment?
  10. I'm getting ready to take my first assignment with Florida Hospital Tampa. I'm very nervous. My housing is Citrus Falls. I've heard that's where the put the majority of travel nurses. The housing is gated and looks great. I don't know much about the hospital. I googled reviews and the employes that work there full time all have good things to say. I know it's a faith based hospital. My big concern is I have not spoke to a manager there. But my other friends that travel with CC said its common that a middle person is used. I expect to be stressed and miserable because I have not heard of many travelers happy on their first time. I just hope they don't keep calling me off. I've heard that can happen to travelers.
  11. Hi, I have my first travel assignment at Florida Hospital Tampa. I'm pretty nervous and have read some great reviews on the hospital and a few bad ones for travelers. Anyone ever travel there? Any tips for my first assignment?

I have 3 friends that have been traveling over a year. They only had 18 months on an oncology floor and they continue to get assignments. The first few were pretty rough but they are very happy in California now. They use supplemental.

I know I am in no way ready to travel now and have no desire until I feel I've gained the experience needed. I like your idea about the per diem. Right now I'm doing 32 hours a week so it would leave room to float to some different floors. I'm also being trained on Epic. I definitely do not want to go through what my friends did when they began to travel. They had terrifying experiences because they did not have the experience needed.

Thanks and I totally agree. I know their first few assignments were awful. Things are finally better for them. I really do think my chemo experience will help but the ICU will be the big benefit. I'm just wondering though my first job was a Level 1 ICU nurse for 11 months then I was offered an excellent position as a Chemo Nurse but now I'm back at the Level 1 Trauma hospital will I need to put in an additional 2 years or will I be good to go after an additional year?

That is what I thought. A few of my friends were signed after 14 months at a hospital but I don't know much about the company and when I sign I want to sign with a reputable one. I am chemo certified but wanted to get back to the ICU unit. The hospital I am employed at is a Level 1 Trauma Center and I just feel I will gain more experience there.
