FAU Accelerated BSN 2012 Acceptance
Colette my dear, our life is not exactly about to be postponed. Yes, to succeed you need to live, breathe and love nursing, you are gonna sleep with your books and maybe start drinking coffee. But! Don't believe all the gloomy posts people put on the internet about how nursing school blows and they don't sleep. Remember, people love to whine! Actually, they are right about the sleeping part, but wrong about lack of fun times. We are gonna make friends for life in nursing school, and we are gonna pretty quickly become a fun group. Count me in for the social event by the way!

FAU Accelerated BSN 2012 Acceptance
Florida Atlantic University - Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing - Current Students here is some info on your attire. It says nothing about on-campus dress-code. you can also find info on drug screens, background checks and health records. it is new to me to find out that FAU requires us to have health insurance. Oh well. Adesh, nursing is an art and a science, so you are fit right in. As long as you are not afraid of giving enemas. LOL

FAU Accelerated BSN 2012 Acceptance
Congrats everyone! I'm still waiting on that info packet. Are they supposed to send it via snail mail? I can tell what would be in there. You will need background check, drug screen, vaccinatons, TB screen and CPR card. I suggest do your vaccines asap because you may need boosters. It just sux that they are usually not covered by your insurance. You will definitely need a sthetoscope, reliable penlight, reliable shoes (probably white) and a solid sense of humor :). I heard FAU students wear all white to clinicals (aww, we are gonna look like a bunch of angels). As to me, I am very happy to start this AO program. Pre-req GPA 4.0, HESI 96%. I didn't have enough statistics credits due to international diploma eval, but they still worked it out, probably thought it would be entertaining to watch a satellite engineer go thru a nursing program. Just wait for that enema practice! See you all on 6th! Katia

Will I ever get accepted in the Miami Dade College nursing program?
You will be able to get in if you nail the TEAS. In generic they have people with similar gpa. There is also part time option. Unfortunately in accelerated (where I am) there is no one with gpa below 3.9. So good luck. Take teas ASAP and retake it later if u you don't do that well.

MDC Spring 2012 :)
I went to the one in Little Havana. They first said they can't do it. But yesterday they took all my paperwork to put the case together. I already paid for all my stuff, but gave them an unpaid schedule of classes. If they are gonna pay, MDC will give me my money back once the workforce money arrive.

MDC Spring 2012 :)
This sux: I got a call yesterday from the South Florida Workforce. They have changed their procedure. Now you have to look for a job with them for 4 months before they send you to school. So the first semester of nursing school is a self-paid ride. What a bummer! Anyone esle heard the bad news?

MDC Spring 2012 :)
I'm eyeing the pile of my nursing books and I have to admit, I'm mildly intimidated. I started to read Fundies, listen to MDC podcasts (NCLEX ?? of the week and some lectures). It was pretty cool to meet my new accelerated classmates. Everyone was so serious, LOL I'm having my fundamentals clinical at Mount Sinai (should be fun since i used to volunteer there for almost a year). who is with me?

MDC Spring 2012 :)
rnati The south Fl workforce is for people who were unable to find a job in their field and now are ready to take the last step - retraining. You must be unemployed at the time of application. At least thats what they told us at the orientation. I really hope there is a way for you around it. I am not working, and have been on unemployment for some time. It is indeed hard for an aerial photo geodesist to find a job nowadays. Ha ha! By the way, got my Fundamentals book, pulled some old curricula online, and doing some reading.

MDC Spring 2012 :)
There is no deadline, but you have to keep in mind that it takes a while for them to approve you (they have to make sure you really can't find a job). I don't know if they cover accelerated. You are going to have to call them.

MDC Spring 2012 :)
Went to the south florida workforce orientation this morning. people, if you are not earning any money, go get yourself a scholarship from them. No brainer!

MDC Spring 2012 :)
You don't need to register, you just walk in. 11th floor (i think the operator mentioned that). So come take a peak! I'll be there.

MDC Spring 2012 :)
there is no straight forward cluster of info on that website, thats for sure. you just have to come and talk to them and attend the orientation. and, according to what they say, you can't be earning any money. but i'd still check into it. the little havana address is 701 sw 27th ave, miami fl 33135, their phone is 305-6433300 their orientation is at 10 am, but you have to be registered before that, so it is safe to show up at 9 am. you can find more info on their home page>career services > training occupations

MDC Spring 2012 :)
The South Florida workforce scholarship is awarded as a retraining credit. You have to attend an orientation at one of their offices, register and sit with a councelor. I called three offices. One of them told me that Accelerated option is not covered, another said it is, the third one wasn't sure and told me to come to the orientation. I'm going to the Little Havana office tomorrow at 9 am for that orientation. MDC is not going to tell you anything about that scholarship by the way. I personally am done banging my head on the wall over the decision between the two programs. RN is my first step, I am going to get my MSN or PhD later, so I need to make sure I get good grades in RN. Accelerated option is designed to get you over it fast, but is not nessesarily friendly for your GPA. Generic is only one semester longer, so that is only four extra months. So far i'm leaning towards the generic. If that means less stress and better grades, i'm in! You can also pick up a couple of part time shifts at a hospital and work, which you can't do in the accelerated.

MDC Spring 2012 :)
jael11 , i have my bls on 11/5 too! i will see you there. and yes, we have to do the background check that mdc provides. ive done all my labwork in one day. my doc just did all the titers, no vaccines, and xray for the tb. you dont need to have two consecutive tb tests done if you came from a country like russia or china, it is enough to tell them that you had a bcg vaccine, and they can just do an xray. but if you need to get immunized, you need to come back.

Dolfinz, talk to me! What made you pick one over another? I'm in the same boat, and have to make a decision in a couple of days. I need some feedback.

MDC Spring 2012 :)
I spoke to an a/o grad today. Met him at a cath lab when volunteering. He got his program paid thru south florida workforce. Unless they have changed their guidelines, I should be fine. I ordered my steth, made a doc appointment, scheduled a CPR and fingerprinting. So I should be all ready to go by the orientation date. Maybe i'm jumping ahead of the train, but my Fundamentals and Med/Surg nursing books are on the way too. Just for fun reading. Some little nerd in me wants to do the accelerated. Here is what that a/o grad told me. He never really opened his books. Studied with notes and recordings of lectures. Got all A's, B's and some C's. There were also some people who had A's in the undergrad and now were happy to get B's and C's. There is just so much conflicting info. Some optimistic, some not really.
